All right. The Intermediate Ticket I keep it for the next round.

NP, steve. 👍 Thanks for understanding; everybody has their own peculiar 'PD' settings that they are used to - for instance those that don't use Assisted Steering Management or Anti-Skid Braking Systems find it difficult if we lock it on as a 'must' - some players are slower, some can be faster - it's all a matter of what the player is used to - and in here we provide the same latitude in settings that the programmers thought fit to include as global settings for the game. Because the contests in here are globally available (since GTPlanet is international) we traditionally have let participants play as they would play the game at home.

This does not mean you are forbidden to run with lower tires and all aids off. I change my settings according to the contest - sometimes running with only ABS1, at other times running with SRF on, at other times with only TCS and ABS, and a couple of times without TCS and ABS because it may be a 'Muscle' event and I like to throw a muscle car around that way.

One more caveat is that settings may affect the time (bring it down or take it up) but the rabbits will still pace the player.
Therefore, if we practise to play with no aids at all, consistently, we will be good enough to actually win the races (at a much slower pace - players just won't be able to match the aids abetted times) but challenged to play with any other settings available would leave that player in the dust because of not being able to handle a vehicle capable of excessive gaming speeds.

There is one more wrinkle to this:
We do arrange 'secret' :) events that only Licenced Hunters are permitted to enter (and you are a Licenced Hunter, too, now - so you will get that chance.)
These events are 'extreme' - heavily under-powered or 'stock' cars, or default settings, or lower tyre compounds (the kind that blow as soon as you touch the brakes :D )

We've had two so far and soon another may be arranged - where we can race in the rain with the ragtop down, mash the brakes without blowing the tyres, spin the wheels without losing any rubber, etc, etc .... good fun because it still remains only a game after all.
Doing so in IRL would only destroy the vehicle, get us in all kinds of trouble and we wouldn't be able to get away without some broken bones.

So we have no pretense about the game in Gran Turismo.

I'll make sure another 'extreme' event is organised soon where we can show off our skills at 'driving' with all off except four electronically simulated contact patches that will effect all players in the same way whether they are used to handling it that way or not. :)

Meanwhile, using the level playing field, do your best (and if you're good with all aids off on on lower compounds, the theory is that you should be better with some aids on) and we'll see how the chips fall. Everybody has an equal chance - and you're showing you can be very good with whatever settings you are using.

Tank God.

Limited time Event. Please check OP for details.

Good luck! :) 👍

Well this is my first time posting on GTP and this thread intrigued me... Decided to give the Aero B. A. T. Pilot beginner's challenge a try since I've only been playing with a DFGT for a couple months now. Fun challenge and fun car!

I found my Tank Car under a dust cover at the back corner of the stockyard, hidden behind a couple of rusting VGTs up on bricks. It started first time though. And I'd never have thought it could be so much fun. With the right grid I reckon a win is on the cards.

Thank you for participating - and a warm welcome to the one and only GTPlanet.
If you stick close to us right off the bat we'll initiate you into the various customs we follow here - including the traditional methods of posting at this Forum - so far you are doing well! :) 👍

A read-up of this thread will also help immensely in further understanding rabbit psychology and the various tests and events we carry out in helping us get a better grip on enjoying the game of Gran Turismo to the full.

Looking forward to see you challenging the top runners here and eking out some fame for yourself, too.
Remember, even if you feel your entries won't win, all the leaderbards we receive in here contain very valuable info - to us, and to PD whenever they take the time to come around and gather it up.

Good Luck!
Harry.

Notes on current Intermediate field:

Please note that as much as two (2) different back-marker rabbits (having spun themselves out on the parade/warm-up lap) will place themselves behind the player and then run as fast as possible increasing their positions. This causes the field to compress slightly as these rabbits work themselves up through the field and even aids the player if the player follows them.
After which it will become a battle between this 'back-marker' (who is now a mid-pack runner) and the player.
Two different fields have this phenomenon. The two rabbits to look out for are:

1: F. Olivares - GT350R '65
2: B. Calderon - Corvette GRAND SPORT (C4) '90

B.Calderon:

Mid-Field%20Raceway_45_zpsw2mre9ne.jpg

These two driver/car combos are very fast - but because these are 'Sprint' races they don't have time to reach the leaders - they would if the race was 5 laps.

Please also note that Leno doesn't like dust on his tanks - it means they aren't getting the loving attention they need.

^ Someone drifted back to camp with a rabbit hide? We're not being very samaritan with that Gentile, are we?

I'll throw your time in too, for tonight.

OP updated to this point.

Couldn't quite eek out a win in this field, the Cougar and Stingray being the cause of many frustrations. "Oh hey, I see you're about to pass me, you can go left, right or stick to the middle, I'mma swing in front of you and brake check you whatever direction you choose. Doesn't matter if it's corner entry, mid-corner, corner exit or on the straight, then I'm gonna divebomb the 🤬 out of you in the next corner".

I tried the event with SH, CS and CM tyres on the rear, all produced about the same over all time, so stuck with CS tyres on the rear for a good middle ground.

The original premise behind computer-gaming was simple.

Man against Machine.

In retrospect it started out simply enough - build a playmate to challenge us - which resulted in IBM's Deep Blue challenging Garry Karpov, reigning World Chess Champion, to a chess tournament.
Deep Blue won the first match.
Karpov struck back winning 3 of the remaining 5 matches, bringing 2 to a draw. Score: Karpov 4 - Deep Blue 2.
The programmers upgraded Deep Blue and challenged Karpov again.
The world of potential computer gamers watched with baited breath.
Furious battles ensured resulting in Karpov losing. Karpov was furious and accused the programmers of cheating. He demanded a rematch. IBM folded its tents and stole off into its quantum blackhole, and Deep Blue was stashed never to play again.

Ah! But it was an iconic moment in computer gaming.

Suddenly we had computer games - games like Space invaders! We had a playmate that was there at the touch of a button. It was us against the computer. Loneliness, the trait so deeply ingrained in the DNA of our very consciousness, was banished.
And the Space Invaders kept coming and coming and coming. Defending Earth became an obsession. We were heroes. No machine could get the better of us and we fought the Machine's maniacal shenanigans with every bit of skill and human cunning we had.

Those simple pixels, space invaders, pac-men, ping-pong balls, simulated chess pieces and board, were our new toys, and there was a Brain in the computer that not only simulated those toys and did a lot of house-keeping connected with the game but also played with us, was ready to play with us at anytime.
No other human was needed. Computer games proliferated but it was always Man against Machine.

Then internet connectivity came along to up that 'social' content that playmates provided. And changed the game into a utility.

We began to use the simulated chess pieces and board to play with another human across the world if we wished. We left off playing against the computer brain.
The Brain was only a housekeeper now, keeping everything nice and tidy, trendy and shiny, making sure all the pieces worked.

The Game the Brain wanted to play with us was ignored, and the original premise was lost - not Man against Machine but Man against Man using the virtual machines, chess pieces, guns, whatever, with the Computer Brain as super-efficient and almost godly director, special effects editor, and swing gang. Not playmate.

Gran Turismo is so vast in its scope, so diverse and flexible, that the original Game is well hidden now by the swollen and clogged arteries driven by networking that sprouted around its heart.
Yet, we can move all these tentacular sectors aside - not just the ones that deal with networked play but also all attendant utilities - GTAcademy, TTs, Tuning, Customising, Photography, Course Creating, GPS Visualizers - in short get to the core of the Game . . . and it boils down to a car and a track.

The primary game is a car and a track and and the ability to use that to acquire more cars and tracks.
The game challenges us, then rewards us when we meet and beat the particular challenge. The Game manufactures opponents for us, creates events, runs those matches, and also plays against us. This is the core Game - the A-Spec/B-Spec game of Gran Turismo.

When this is ignored the application is nothing more than another utility that provides the networking objects and other resources for online activity.

Unfortunately many racing/driving games went the route of being an utility for competitive game-play against other humans instead of a game against the computer, and now we have a veritable surfeit of these racing/driving utilities to be used predominantly online - and all of them heavily dependent on human vs human competitions to carry the game-play and keep the 'game' alive.
In short the developers are at the mercy of the Human Player quality for game-play.
And so opt instead to focus on graphic quality, the efficiency of the drive-engine, and objects that are trendy - halo cars of the moment, futuristic weaponry, and so on.
Add sufficient DLC, paid or otherwise, regularly and the 'game' will be 'kept alive' by the particular cult that gathers around it - till the next iteration - or some new, 'more 'trendy to belong to' game comes along - because now it was no more Mam against Machine it was Ego against Ego.
Happiness was enviable.
If you didn't belong to the 'better' game, the more shiny set of trendy utilities, then you were in an unenviable position and a loser who couldn't hack it in the world of online computer hacks.

Single player games are not just ignored - a part of society may even look down on it as less than worthy of their skills and cunning - worthy players are only to be found IRL.
Artificial Intelligence sucks.
Deep Blue is a loser.

This is unfortutnate because the computer doesn't generate 'players', it generates opponents.
There is a difference.
It is the computer that is the 'player' - it plays against us. It, however, uses opponents to challenge and beat us - and these opponents are only as good as the Brain, only as good as the computer can 'know' the Player enough to create the perfect opponents.
Does the core game in Gran Turismo - the Game, itself, provide this?

In spades.

Let me demonstrate how well it works:

Gaming Objective:
Race and drive for fun. Drive, race and enjoy Jay leno's Tank car. Use the Tank Car to win a race. Use the Tank Car at a track that will maximise its potential. Use the tank car against other American-made muscle cars. Race against opponents of similar skill to have an even chance of winning. Earn credits to use. Earn a prize car/color chip.

Gran Turismo says: "Okay bud, let's go. Get your Tank Car and come along to Mid-Field - I'll arrange something to give you the rush you need."

We have to take it that at this point the Game Brain does not know my Player Skill (PS) level or the Vehicle (V) level. Computer and I have agreed on certain restrictions and we obey that.
The Computer also says: "I'll help you out with some assists but if you don't race clean I'll suitably penalise you."
We agree to that, too - since if we are trying to simulate a real race to the best of both Computer's and our own ability, we mus play as real as possible.

I take my tank to the Fighting Muscle and do the race.
Right away I notice that the Brain has shuffled an opponent (quite deviously) behind me, who pushes me as fast as i can run, and works himself through the pack - in fact asking me to come along.
I'm now into the 'enjoy the car' mode, fulfilling another objective, and I race as cleanly as possible familiarising myself with the track in relation to the car's potential.

I bring home the Tank without a scratch. Last.

Massey1_zpsjrc7yiz6.jpg

I notice several things:

a: Mr Average Driver is Massey, the Canadian in the Chevelle SS.

b: There are three Gold Rabbits - Igarashi, Neal and Kondo. Info gleaned from @nowcontrol's Intermediate A-Spec thread tells me that Kondo is possibly the fastest. He has been handicapped in this 'Starter' field.

c: From Connor in the Model S to Curtis in the Nova were mid-packers.

d: I could easily take Vega and Olah, the back-markers - at least a sure P10.

c: If I could keep up with Calderone, the spinner in the GRAND SPORT, I might have a chance of catching up Mr. Massey.

Back to the race with all this new info.
I manage to hang on to Calderon's coat-tails, the Tank Car is now becoming addictive, and the excitement is building. The leaders stay in place, and the back-markers get more truculent at letting me pass. Massey is egging me on - faster! Faster! Faster!

Because he was Canadian this further riled me up.

massey2_zpsanfjw2oo.jpg

Race 3 and I'm breathing hard, the immersion is now blanketing me, the real world shut out - this was my world. I take off with Calderone working my way through the pack and we do better actually meeting up with Magic Man Massey.
Connor, the lead mid-packer feels some of the heat and applies a tad to Kondo who shrugs it off; the leaders stay in place.

massey3_zpss4rub5wz.jpg

Race 4 and now I'm coming into my element, just loving the Tank, meshing gears and power with the kind of torque that was a sheer thrill to feel. I know Calderone's moves well-enough now, and leg it for all I'm worth.
He overtakes me, i overtake him, he overtakes me - all this happening while we are fighting through back-markers and mid-pack with the clock ticking like a bomb would go off any moment.
I finally get him at the last corner and high-tail it after Massey who sees me coming and takes off like a bat outta hell. I raced his ass coming over the line with him but couldn't make the kill.
These were short races, sprints, so it added to the excitement - a quick fix before one could catch their breath.

massey4_zpsjzqh4by9.jpg

Now - I have some experience with this game - and especially with the AI.
I knew if I asked for a fresh field that the Computer would adjust to the PS + V value I had input as a bunch of ones and zeros. It would generate a new field - a 'better' field of opponents that were more on my Player Skill and present Vehicle values that would give me a closer race as well as provide me with a chance to earn the rewards that drove my greed. If the game left me frustrated all the time with no rewards I would rage quit and leave - but the Computer's objective was to keep me playing - so it would play the game of 'carrot and stick'.

I asked for a new field and got this:

masseynewgrid1_zps7j18xzvm.jpg

Kondo was pulled from the race, Castano replaced Connor, Massey moved up to where i was now tempted by a podium, and there was a whole raft of Rabbish to get through before I tangled with Massey
Meanwhile I have to admit that racing around with all these muscle cars is just joy - pure car heaven. Always the distraction as I try to cleanly get around them - and of course they do their best to teach me defensive driving.
So it was time for my moment of glory - time to kill that upstart Massey and take the Canadian flag for myself.
I went in all gung-ho and was dashed by the back-markers (Leno was not going to be happy with those scratches) and Massey suddenly decided to show me the faster times of his mid-packer racing window, cunning bastard was holding back to taunt me on and now he was showing me claws.
I was tempted to go get my Saleen and come back for murder. I resisted the temptation and decided to man up - couldn't let Jay down. He'd butt me with his chin.
To make it worse a relative of Kaz's appears in a Tesla to shock me with the current state of muscle technology.

massey5_zpsdzepzbna.jpg

Race 6 and Massey reeled back a bit to give me a chance which got him tussling with Curtis in the Nova. Meanwhile Valle just wouldn't let me pass - the only way I could would be a dirty pass.
I held back. Leno was watching. I'm surprised he even let me drive this. In this way!

massey6_zpsj4pnd39h.jpg

I decided to trick the machine - ask for another 'weaker' field.
Oh! no . . . it says. Not so fast buster. You can do better.
It sends Kondo back to do flying laps on his own out in front as a Gold Rabbit, Burgos in the Mustang SVT as a Silvertip doing the same, and Massey as the lead mid-packer doing flying laps now and me with with a solid chance for a podium if i didn't push Massey too hard, and nabbed him at the right moment.

I run hard, and Massey encourages me, but I lose.

massey7_zps5al2fiaq.jpg

I need to get better, and better, and better at this.

There is a video-game in here. :)

This one:

Like a svelte female bodybuilder with a Bruce Lee punch she appeared in front of me when I booted up a second 'weaker' field which I used to race races #5 and #6 as outlined in that rather lengthy log report  Sorry, kid, speed reading is not the same as road-speeding. In any case, having given time for all Hunters to read I will collapse that post into a 'spoiler' for ease of scrolling this page.
Here's T. Yamaguchi, a very distant relative of Kazunori Yamauchi, but still no accident that she was allowed to bring something 'different' and unique (a typical Gran Turismo trait) into play:

Mid-Field%20Raceway_142_zps083howjj.jpg

Unfortunately there was five tons of retro-muscle ahead of her that wouldn't get out of its own way:

Mid-Field%20Raceway_144_zpswnbel68s.jpg

Or else she would have moved up some positions. She kept charging Valle in the Super Bee but he just wouldn't buzz off, as you can see from the leaderboards in the Log Report on the AI behaviour in races #5 and #6 and from here:

Mid-Field%20Raceway_145_zpsvchfnh8k.jpg

Valle smashed her face with his butt several times till she got the message. Poor thing looked a mess after that. I have a feeling if Big Sis Model S came along Valle would have had some explaining to do..

Mid-Field%20Raceway_146_zpss1lznenq.jpg

Not that I felt too sorry when I swept past in my big boy, but not to embarrass her I kept my face averted and my hands firmly on the wheel:

Mid-Field%20Raceway_147_zpsm3kvwh16.jpg

Also . . . while I have your undivided attention now: I have posted The Italian Auto Don up - even though your time is not eligible (you got VicReign Rights now so you'd be wrong to enter that race.) We can use that graphic as a 'starter', though. In case you're still puzzled about 'VicReign Rights' - we have many odd Rabbit Hunter customs and terms in here - and a lot of it is explained in Post #2 (immediately after the OP.) Basically those with 3 trophies or more are not allowed into that race - so this gives a chance for learning players (and even advanced drivers for that matter) to try an event without being bothered by aliens. Like Vic Reign. After whom it was named. :sly:

And one more thing - does the 'nfs' in your user ID stand for Need For Speed? I may want to pick your brains about the AI in there. I used to play a lot of NFS, too. 👍

No one trying out The Alfa Commander? Or is there some MTM Card stashed away somewhere that shows 11 Alfas at the line?
The Alfa Commander Event is one of the 'Commander' Events on the same lines as The Gullwing Commander (I'm sure MTM79, nowayback and DisabledRacer remember that one,) and also like The Commander of the Evolution - which stepped up the count to 7 of the same marque at the Finish Line.

Now we have a chance to go 11.
Get your carrots out, trick the machine into giving you those 10 Alfas (11 with yourself) and make sure any non-Alfa is punted down the line till they know their place. :)

How does one trick the machine into giving you a ton of Alfas?

Come now, gamer . . .. :D

Oops.. The Italian Auto Don just my first try ...Ok, as you said, just treat it as a 'starter' point for eligible guys. Maybe the Tank to be blame for my mistake.

Gentile probably maxed out, haven't tried faster car to see how fast he can go . At 4:32.1 he 42.468, 31.58 he 42.38 and 29.4 he 42.25 @ hall90 very good time...ha I wrote this post 45 minutes ago and forgot to post . Get field without Gentile

I will try it without Gentile and see what happens. 👍

Some events will run for a month - others are limited time and will change on the 10th Sep with fresh challenges.
When PD starts the new rotation we'll also have more events to work with for the month.
