GT6 What happened?

YES. I think almost everyone can agree that the racing in GT sucks. Stop being such a tool about it. I will call it a driving game before I call it a racing game for that exact reason, but in no way do I consider myself a "fanboy". The game is pretty good at simulating a driving experience. It's pretty lacking in simulating a racing experience (no quali, grid start, flag system, competent AI, etc) Therefore I will refer to it as a driving game despite what title you feel the genre should be called. There's absolutely no reason for you to act like an ass. Let's discuss the game please, not argue semantics
 basically you just confirmed what i said there...

I feel the same way I'm happy for the improvements but it did not "WOW" me at all. If I would have play the game before buying I most likely would have not bought it and waited for the PS4 version
I can't pin it down, but the gameplay seems better. I also think this may be an interim release until Sony is ready to release a PS4 version. I am a bit disappointed with it, but it is still a new adventure.

Yes I am aware of that. That is because I am not trying to have an argumental flame war with you where I discredit everything you say just because you said it. I do, in fact, agree with you. I just DONT agree with you going the "fanboy" route with it, and am also trying to explain why people (myself included) are inclined to refer to it as a driving game and why they should not be ridiculed for it because that is exactly what it is. Be a little open minded here man :)

I feel like sometimes people get so caught up in the heat of an argument that they forget there is often merit to both sides. It's like that with just about anything, especially political philosophy (won't get into that here) The world could use more people rational enough to see them. In this case it's mostly a matter of opinion and everyone is going to have a different one.

Would you have branded GT a driving game 10 years ago? I think nobody would have to be honest, so this whole new "driving game" phrase is (to me) just something fans say to disguise the fact that PD can't deliver what is expected from them gamewise.

Probably not, but I play the game an entirely different way and for entirely different reasons now. I'm really not the right person to be having this conversation with. Like I said, (not sure if it was in this thread or not) but the only mode I use in GT these days is practice. I'm not LOOKING for a racing game. (Possibly because I've accepted that PD is not delivering me one but I don't know) I play the game just to drive the different cars around and practice technique. So for me it is a driving game and I'm perfectly content with that. Would I like them to improve the racing aspect? Of course. But I'm probably not as upset about it as some/most people, because I'm happy just to experience the way different cars drive when I'm the only one on the track. I can spend hours on top of hours driving lap after lap after lap and be totally immersed. You'll find plenty of people here that demand a better racing experience, and are completely justified in doing so, but I'm just not one of them

Side note: I was also 11 years old 10 years ago lol

I respect that, was planning to pick GT6 up second hand myself later on just for the hotlapping, but i'll see :)

As far as I remember, the infamous phrase "The real driving simulator" was on all GT's game covers. So I think GT was branded as a driving game from the get go.

And I totally agree with DegenThought. I guess the problem is that some people look for different things in games. And for some they get what they want (free running, testing cars, enjoying the cruise) and some don't (racing, AI and so on.). Basically what DegenThought said.

I guess I am the 'fanboy', because I don't really care for the racing part.

I would probably recommend it (I assumed you had played it already)

I haven't spent a lot of time on it myself and won't until my wheel works again. There's plenty of things I'm disappointed with but the content is pretty good and I'm sure it will only get better with updates and additions and bug fixes, etc

Call me insane, but I think the racing along with the driving itself is miles better than GT5. The steering feels both more direct and more realistic than GT5, and if you crank the AI aggression up to 10 (it's in the settings menu on the Start screen... thing when you press the Start button and go to "Options") you WILL have many races filled with absolutely heart-stopping moments. Just last night I had a spectacular race in my KTM X-Bow R against a very aggressive Lamborghini Aventador at the Nurburgring Nordschleife which reminded me of the battle between Gilles Villeneuve and Rene Arnoux in the closing laps of the 1979 French GP with all the contact, overtaking and aggressive driving from both of us. It was exhilarating! Definitely one of the absolute best races I've had in any game ever. We both traded places several times, shoved each other around and, when the other car was close, blocked for all we were worth. And then on top of it, the rest of the field were locked in their own battles! You don't get experiences like this with GT5, or any other GT for that matter. Very, very good racing.

To some here, GT sounds as if it were their child. When we criticize the game, we do so hoping it's issues are fixed.
I played Gran Turismo since the first one, I am a Playstation "fanboy", and even so I'm not blinded by passion to the level of ignoring flaws from any console or any game.

Couldn't agree more. Anyone who thinks that GT5 has better physics has never driven a real car on a real track, which is perfectly okay because it costs a S*#TLOAD of money. But GT6 has taken a huge leap in realistic physics and also tire sounds (thank god). This game is a lot of fun, and that's realistic because the first time you drive on a real track you'll be grinning so hard your helmet might pop off. This is a very good game.

Is this what GT has become, physics are great and everything else doesn't matter?

I was going to say that GT has reached a solid point in its pursuit of near "perfect" physics simulation, but beyond that, the experience is quite stale. GT feels more like a technical achievement in car dynamics/physics than an actual video game. The GT series could use a serious reboot.

I rate GT games based on the flat form. I can't compare it to Iracing because I know all they have to work with is the limitations of the PS3. I would say they did a pretty good job with the game. They have tightened up some of the corners in some of the well known tracks and the detail on the cars and tracks can rival any PC sim. The only problem I have with GT6 is the grip of the tires. It seems as though they made it for people that can't drive. The sport hard tires feel like racing tires with the amount of grip. I mean come on, a 700hp car on sport soft and the rear tires don't loose grip in second gear.

Yep. I guess they feel they need to have a range of tires for every type of player but it definitely takes away from the realism. It blows my mind that there are people out there who use racing softs but apparently there are. Personally I like sports hard or less, anything more seems to provide an unrealistic amount of grip. I'm sure it's PD just catering to the lowest common denominator, but it's annoying for people who have taken the time to learn how to actually drive.

I think GT6 has moved in the right direction, 5 seemed to cater for those who wish to have it all on day 1-2-3, I got 5 a month ago and had managed to completed B-Spec, nearly finished A-Spec, finished all the other parts of it and was teaching myself to tune.
This time round on 6, just like Forza 5 I think, money is not so readily available, so a bit more time and thought is needed on where to plough your funds. I do like the driving and for the most the scenery is a-ok as well. AI needs some work though, gone from being stupid to aggressive (wrong kind of message to put out there to those trying to learn). The game still takes care of those who want to fly through the game, as already posted about the stars and probably using the maximum PP for an event. Whereas others no doubt like myself will push themselves by taking the harder way in the races, wonder how many people actually stuck with the FIT for a slong as possible and how many off loaded ASAP to get something faster.
Those who maxed out for races are probably the ones posting about the game being too short. As for those taking the harder route pretty sure most of those will finish the game having become a better driver etc etc

I fail to comprehend how he managed to beat the entire 'career mode' in just two days. Are you a cyborg by any chance? :dopey:

This brings back memories! I think I "Whoot"-ed and laughed the whole way through my first Autocross run. I was just beside myself when I did my first track time trial.

But yes, this game drives very well. But the racing part is not very good. I just passed an entire field of 500PP cars with a 390PP Miata by the end of 2 out of 3 laps in Japanese 90s challenge. Is there a difficiulty selector I haven't found yet?

I've been playing driving games on computers and consoles since 1981.

It's not a short list. Happy to list if you really care.

Remember what is important for some people in a game is not the same for others.

Question, which PC sim did you play with worst physics than GT6. Try playing Assetto Corsa or Game Stock Car 2013 and then play GT6. You will see how arcade like GT6 is. As far as looks, like I said before, Gt6 can rival any game out there. I mean I feel like I want to pass-out with the amount of g-force I am hitting these corners with.

Yeah, the AI cars are pretty easy to trounce. I suppose that PD has to make it accessible to new players, which means that those of us who've been playing for a while will find the best challenges against each other on line.

only way to have this game beat in a day or two is running the minimal amount required of stars to move on to next level, and your cheating yourself if your only running a few races getting the stars you need and not driving the rest of the races in that level.

Your right this is the only way but I can see both sides of the coin here, After doing a race a couple of times and finishing say 4th it is a tad boring so you move on to the next race and so on to heighten the enjoyment of racing rather than sitting on the same race again and again until you get first, Same with licences bronze is a pass get it move on see what else the game offers after that, this is just the way the passing game player would play the game, but to a hardened GT fan like Myself I choose to achieve gold if I can on the licence and win races if I can by doing the race maybe a dozen or more times but I have to be honest I have not won many races and I have not hit many gold times yet. I am still in two minds to just chuck my copy on line for a tenner and save the time it takes to complete it or stick with it and see if I fall for it the same as I did GT 1 2 3 4 Not 5 that was awful.

Yeah thats exactly it Kaz said in an interview he wanted to make it accessible for everyone newcomers and experienced guys

Id even like something like you qualify and depending on your performance the AI adapt to your performance level so you have to work your butt off to win a race as they are racing what ever level your racing

That would be ideal, of course PD was off modeling the moon instead lol...but no that would make the game so much more enjoyable, not that it isn't already, I am very satisfied with it. It's basically what I expected but I wouldn't mind a little more hard fought competition. If it was in there,I'd probaby spend a lot more time doing races over because I'm one of those people who want to try and win every race and get all gold trophies and prize cars and all that stuff

oh but also I haven't played online yet but I think you can set up lobbies with qualifying systems so that's pretty cool.
