Here's what I use for help; although I usually set them all at 5/5 and 5/5 and work from there, or just leave them stock.

Damper Bound/Rebound
This is probably one of the most useful setting for tuning your car. You can control almost all balance, oversteer, understeer, or any other quirks from here. Let it be known that the following info was taken from a post by "Exit Speed" (Thank You soooooo Much) in the Granturismo.com Settings Workshop Forum. Also with these, like springs, youll want to make them stiffer for flat tracks and softer for bumpy ones. Though Id mess with the springs first to correct bounce and contact. Remember: Bound = Shock going up / Rebound = Shock coming back down.
Loose into turns
Soften Rear Rebound / Stiffen Front Bound
Loose out of turns (Increase oversteer when throttle is released in mid-corner)
Soften Front Rebound / Stiffen Rear Bound
Push into turns
Stiffen Rear Rebound / Soften Front Bound
Push out of turns
Stiffen Front Rebound / Soften Rear Bound
This was all I found

Why? BB is a tuning setting.
It is but it's a lighter modification that doesn't have as much of an effect as other settings. We've also had that available for many years at this point. When you open too many setting opportunities it becomes a few too many variables where advantage can become ridiculous. I remember some race A from months back (Laguna Seca and Watkins Glen) where certain guys were winning by 45+ secs and even lapping parts of the grid, even though their base skill level was nothing notable to speak of.

Wasn't that the silva tuning car race?

Just a side note, BB doesn't change a cars stopping power just how it "feels" when braking and turn in so it's more of a driver comfort setting to be fair. There are some tire wear pros and cons but the even out.

With rebound (damping) I'm not sure they will help much because you are trading hard for softer. If you hit the curbs you want softer if you don't you want harder but again it's more a driving style thing than a "tuning" thing that will make a load of difference.

I need to test it, I've been away a while to be fair.

Taking advantage of having a day off for Labor Day, I did some practice laps this afternoon for Race B this week as I love me some Suzuka. I tried the RSR 911 and set a time but I didn't like the feel of the car on the track. I switched to the McLaren and have a current time of 2:03.9XX. I haven't done any tuning as I didn't know you could do that. I'll try again later tonight and see what changes I can make and what they do.

No, those were open road car races with full tuning available, limited to <450 and 500pp. 20th of June and 4th of July 2022. Archive:

You're probably right that this may be a light setting as well. Oh well, to each their own if one wants to participate or not.

You're in and you're out you're yes and you're no....grrr

Been trying a few A races in this lazy Labor Day. Each lobby was a mix of Bs As and untimed A+s from the back (BTW I hate those guys). First two races I start 4th and end 8th; both races, though due to differing circumstances. Third race I start 2nd and end 7th. In summary too much punting and spotting the braking mark for the bus stop is challenging.

First race1 I was punted down to last, possibly twice, and it was very argy-bargy. Each time I made it back up the field waiting for others to crash out. That may the redeeming quality of this race? There are lots of position changes but it is frustrating.

Second race was entirely my fault. I get good start and was 3rd from turn 1, but while dueling with two other cars first lap I totally forgot about the braking mark for the bus stop until way too late! I said F... it and floored the gas into the barriers. I figured I'd minimize the time to reset. It works if you know you're going to crash out anyway. Most of the race I traded positions between 8th and 10th and finally jumped back to 8th last lap.

Last race was a cleaner affair. I pull into lead turn 1 but on the inside then get braking wrong and and slip back to 4th. By last lap I had further slipped back to 5th, then in the braking zone to the bus stop I get punted (deliberately?) and I slip down to 7th. Really, last lap. It pisses you off.

I then switched to race B. Tried a few cars. Currently I am with the 911RSR with BB at +2 and I set a time in the 2:03.954 which seems respectable. I haven't raced yet and so far my damper tuning settings appear to make the car worse from stock. I always thought the NSX was good at Suzuka but that is nowhere to be found on the leaderboards. Perhaps that is only the Gr.2 version..

Worth noting that the Laguna Seca race and the Silvia race both used the PP system and were both when the PP system was horrendously broken.
I helped with the WR tune for the Silvia race and it was easily about 100pp lower than it should've been, that same car was competitive in 700pp races as it was in that (sub 600pp) race, whilst it was registering at about 450-500pp. A specific combination of parts for whatever reason broke one of the calculations, and absolutely tanked the rating.

They've since updated the system, and to my knowledge such holes do not exist (as much) anymore. There are still 'tricks' to idealise your tune, but nothing that drastic, I absolutely don't think you could lap cars of the same PP rating anymore.

Hey, you wanna some Ridge Racer Type 4 in your GT7 ? :sly:

Also I got the victory only at the 4th try because of THIS GUY (at 10:35) who continued to ruin the race of everyone every time; he did it again in this race, the only difference is that he missed me this time :irked:

Only had about 40 min of free time today so set about finding my preferred car for Autopolis.

Best times (5 laps each car) all on RM are:

P3 - Merc SLS - 1:53:9
P2 - Honda NSX - 1:53:5 (best gear ratios for the track but lacking top end speed)
P1 - McLaren 650S - 1:53:3 (was even going to break into the 52's twice but got over excited and screwed Sector 3 each time 🤣⚰️)

Current time in top 500's but can go faster for sure. Should be fun racing tomorrow 🤞🏻🙂

Is there any tire/ fuel management at all?

Race b is an absolute p*sstake. 4 starts, 4 times I have been wiped out in the first turn. A complete ****ing joke is all this game has become. No penalties given either. I'm done anyway, last week was bad enough, this is just a complete farce

Taking the fast line into T1/L1 in cold hard tires are bound to go wrong. Take a safer inside line., That way they at least get penalised

So in all my races I binned it from pole 3 times tonight at the second of the right handers under the bridge in to the hairpin.

What sort of times are you doing? Not at you personally but the racing quality dropped considerably when people finished work and started to come online and race.

I agree with @RacingGrandpa - stay closer to the inside, and let the others go sliding off the track. For the first day or two, people have a hard time learning that corner (among others). Same with the tight hairpin midway through the track - take the inside, or someone else will, and they'll push you around.

This week I decided to stay in race A.

Lots of garbage dirty opponents 🤦‍♂️ . I'm always between 1st and 3rd position at start and it only takes a couple of corners to end up 16th.

Plus if you get pushed out at corner #1 you'll be the one to get the 0.5s penalty.

With the exception of a couple of races at deep forest last week, for the past three weeks I have been a race A convert. Its like feeding time at the zoo for the most part, but so are the othet two races.

I'm just enjoying the naunces of road cars in sport mode rather than group 4 (which I could happily never drive again).

I've plateaud at high B/low A DR in my sport mode career, and dont have the time generally or equipment to get better than that. So unless a fave combo comes up or PD decides to mix things up, I think I will mess around in race A for the foreseeable when I have my free time.

Race C is actually a lot of fun. Presently, running fm: 3 on the 458, driving it pretty hard, and ending the race with 1/2 A lap of fuel. Average lap time is about 1:57 ish

Have to admit ... 15 laps, with no tire restrictions would have been sweet. It really is a fun track to whip a car around.

Great. So this week is even more difficult to keep a high DR.
You either know what you’re doing (tuning/finding a competitive setup here) or you get squashed by the elite.

This should have been done for any Race A.

---
EDIT: I don't get the hate for my comment. Guess you guys are confident with your tuning abilities and don't worry about DR.
No, but isn't "A" meant for the best players? Aren't the best player also those that take the time to understand all aspects of the game?

It's the same as beong critical of those whp are fast, but dangerous to others.

"A" and higher should signify that you are good at the game.

I just had my first race of the week in ‘C’ - I don’t really know the track so went and completed the CE first.

Didn’t qualify for the race (standard for me until later in the week) - started 15th and finished 7th in the 650S after some penalties shook out for folks running on the Medium tires for the whole race. Despite using the normal short shift point of the gear indicator, I was at 87% at the end of lap 1! Ended up changing at 7k rpm and had to do a lap or two on FM2, but didn’t really lose a ton of speed. Definitely not as fuel efficient as the 458 though based on the YouTube folks I watched earlier in the day.

Late edit to avoid a double post: had a couple more races this evening, this time in the Supra. Really nice to drive and not as thirsty as the 650S. Still requires a little short shifting. Haven’t tried the Ferrari so can’t compare lap times, but I’m not strong on this track so who knows 🤷‍♂️. Started P15 both times, finished 8th both times. Need to qualify though as it’s a bit brutal at the back of a B lobby

I did a few more laps earlier this evening and a got a new time of 2.03.3XX for Race B in the McLaren. I'm thinking that should put me up near the front of the field. It turns out my oil was worn so that robbed me of some power for sure. Check your oil everyone!

Earlier today I was starting 4th - 6th on the grid with a 2:01.8 and by this evening it put me starting 10th so I got back after it and knocked it down to 2:01.5.
From around 1100 back to 600ish.

Had some good races and some self inflicted spins but overall no worse than last week’s B race. Definitely a roller coaster ride today but good fun and a challenge.
