Lucked out eventually and carried a good lap home. T2 and the downhill chicane in particular makes Yamagiwa quite an annoying track to TT, I gotta say. Don’t mind racing there, has never really been a problem but man, trying to hit that chicane passage in a TT setting was... patience testing.

Oh boy, more high downforce cars I hate driving!

First session out at Fuji and I could not quite get it into the 1:27s - my optimum was a .881, but the best I was able to string together was a 1:28.179.

Okay, but it started getting really obnoxious towards the end of tonight's session, I had an invalid lap due to the previous one (though that should've had zero bearing on the next lap, but whatever) so I called it quits before I wasted more of my night.
 
After totally collapsing the suspension and buckling several sets of wheels, I was able to successfully cut the chicanes enough to put down a 1:57.867.

Not quite in the top 100 this time, although the optimum was a 57.55X, plenty of time left on the table kerb as I couldn't link together a complete lap as per usual.

Oddly the only part of this lap that was optimum was the S2 chicane which I nailed. Unfortunately I lost half a tenth in S1 and another half a tenth on the exit of T4. Then in S3 I didn't quite get the right line so had to delay getting on throttle. S4 chicane was a tricky one to get right, while this lap was reasonably good, I had been able to carry more speed on other laps, so this lost a bit of time to the optimum, and finally the last corner I bled off too much speed on entry which affected the line through the whole corner.

Just don't think I've got the dexterity in my hands to nail these thread-the-needle chicanes, I can't find consistency in perfecting all the turn in points and ensuring I've got the right entry lines for each corner. Yamagiwa abuses that almost 3 times in a lap, absolute torture.

The results for TT215 at Kyoto Driving Park - Yamagiwa Reverse in the Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R '97 are over here. I don't even know it's a dexterity thing - some of it is moreso luck of the draw in terms of how the car feels like sliding or bouncing on that particular lap, which is a really annoying thing to have to deal with. I was just outside the top-100 as well, but I knew that my .7xx lap was as good as it was going to get for me - I had more time in it, but was I allowed to have all that time in one lap? Unlikely.

This'll be an interesting one. Lower-ish power (even though the car is real life was considerably underrated - GT doesn't take that into account), but skinny tires - presumably Comforts?
 
Uhhhgggg, Fuji is just a pita for me, no matter the car chosen. I really enjoy the NSX and that makes this even more frustrating. Trying like hell to get into the 27s. Goal is to hit 1:27.7xx. Been playing with different gears on exits and just not finding what i need. Uhg.

It was very frustrating for me towards the end of last night's session as well. I think of lot of it is getting on power earlier...but then the car goes in a circle so...I...can't do that? And my god, the last sector of the track is just...a mess.

Yep, the last sector is killing me. Second sector is off, I need a get fast on it as well. Only hitting .800 very occasionally. Usually .100, making it about .400 off from what I need.
First sector I have. I can get under .600 on it, but average .650s when in a good groove.
 
Barely improved in the NSX at Fuji, and still not even into a 1:27 (my optimum was worse than last night), only to a 1:28.113

What the actual **** am I doing wrong here??? This car doesn't turn, it doesn't stop, and then it just spins around and ruins your lap the second you even think about touching the throttle. I did like 160 miles of driving tonight, and the vast majority of those laps weren't even valid. I honestly preferred this car at CGV.

I absolutely nailed Turn 3 on this lap (and **** the bed on Turns 1 and 2), but even still...with an optimum barely faster, I am clearly missing time elsewhere.

 
The yank tank is actually way better than i was expecting, i thought it'd be all fto and lose itself under brakes but nope, not bad at all. Starred with various assists, again figured she'd be wild and wooly, but that just resulted in crabbing (front and rear axels fighting each other). So turned everything off bar tank slapper weak and managed a 19.2 which is plenty safe.

The group 2 at fuji has me beat, I am a tenth off gold but cannot go any faster, you people above bitching you can't do a 27 need to sit in a room or mirrors.

Stay at it bro, you WILL get faster! Then, you will still want to get faster. It's a freaking addiction!!!!

The more I drive Group 2 the more they grow on me. The unavoidable need for throttle control is the best practice of finally mastering it that I could think of. And if it's a forgivable but challenging track like Fuji then it's a great joy too. The chicanes of Le Mans (even though I love it for racing lore reasons) or CGV not so much.

Top time dropped overnight. :rolleyes: I'm still in gold, but I don't feel safe at all and will have to try and find the time for at least one more long session.

It's one of those ones where i don't know what I am doing wrong. So sometimes I know if i do this or that or improve this or that, I will get there. This one, I have no idea what to do, just "driving harder" isn't working.
