What I can’t decide on yet, is if the “overtake” button actually adds any meaningful acceleration to the car. What do you think?
The 'overtake' on the Hyundai Ionic 6N does improve acceleration, based on my informal testing of watching the mph increase during run-up to the starting line during the latest time trial. MPH seems to increase faster with 'overtake' activated. Pretty much need to hold the overtake button for the entire lap to optimize acceleration on straights as well as corner exits... re-mapping the overtake to a button on my wheel that
does not cause carpel tunnel syndrome was a necessity for me.
I feel like this 24h Nurburgring combo shouldn't be
this difficult.... as the car is really not that fast. But it might turn-out to be one of the harder TTs in recent memory. The physics change, ghost problems, the immense curb weight of the vehicle, and the sheer length of the lap all contribute to its difficulty.
First the ghost problems. I too had the ghost behind me after a few sectors and wondered... why. From the insights of
@crome , who stated that the ghost seems to retract about 0.1s closer (or even behind) the player for each consecutive sector completed, I landed on a fool-proof idea! Just set the ghost off-set to 1.3 seconds or something similar, and in this way, as I advance thru the circuit, the ghost will gradually be at a follow-able distance ahead as it resets after each sector. My comfort level with the GP portion of the circuit is generally good, and the ghost isn't quite as necessary as it is during the more technical portions of the circuit. I managed to achieve a gold time using this tactic, perhaps not the safest gold, but it at least felt like I could follow the ghost as I drove thru the highly technical portions of the circuit, sectors 8 thru 13 approximately.
Also, I managed to run a session with 3 consecutive laps and the ghost appeared to be much closer to my own vehicle on the 2nd and 3rd lap, which made consecutive laps easier. I plan to run another session today to see if the ghost will behave itself.
Then, the curb weight of the vehicle, perhaps combined with the physics update, is a handful. The vehicle is heavy, not sure how heavy GT7 is measuring it, but IRL we're looking at something like 4600 lbs to just under 5000 lbs depending on the package. The car is susceptible, (again maybe due to the physics update or just the immense weight or both combined) to overloading of the front to the point where you'll understeer like nobody's business.
Bear with me as I'm not familiar with some/many of the turn names, but I'll do my best... the physics update/curb weight combine to make Quiddelbacher Hohe, Flugplatz, and the Aremberg transition much more treacherous than they were in the past. Putting a rear tire on the grass can easily end the lap. I didn't see if off-road traction loss was set to 'real' but it feels like it. I'm not used to this in GT7, and I feel the front-load / understeer combination way more since the update than I did previously.
I normally enjoy 24h Nurburgring combos, but I don't know if my hand can survive holding down the overtake button for a typical 60-minute session... I would map it to the accelerator pedal if I could

Perhaps pad players can map it to the same button as the throttle?
Alot of time still left for me, but mitigating the effect of the new physics engine, heavy car, and ghost issues, all taken together, I feel like this one is a tall challenge.
