With all three of the Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial events expiring all at the same time this morning, due to the game update that brought a raft of physics changes, we’ve got a rare, all-new line-up this week.
Indeed it was the fact that the new event last week was only running for a single week that alerted us to the possibility of physics change, having only happened once previously: both before and after the 1.49 update brought new game physics.
The same thing applies to the new events, with the two starting simultaneously today running for one and two weeks respectively, and both use the new game content that arrived with the update.
For the longer-lived one of the two you’ll be heading to the Nurburgring 24h circuit to hurl the Hyundai Ioniq 6N around almost 16 miles of German countryside on Sports Medium tires. One of the meanings of the “N” in its name is in fact “Nurburgring”, so it should be right at home given that the brand has a European development facility not too far away.
You’ll need to get used to manually shifting the Ioniq as well, given that — unlike its 5N sibling — the N-GRIN Shift simulated manual gearbox is included. This is exactly what it sounds like: artificial gears applied to the normally more direct drive to inject a little old-school fun into the 641hp electric vehicle.
There’s no simulation about it in the seven-day event though, with a car that effectively dates back to 1957. Based on the Lotus Seven, the Caterham Seven is a car that we’ve enjoyed in GT before. Whereas the previous model, in GT4–GT6 was the buzzy, bike-engined Fireblade, the new car has twice the torque and 100hp more but still weighs half a ton.
It’s a real scruff-of-the-neck car, and you’ll be tackling the Shortcut Course at Autopolis with it over the coming week. This one also uses Sports Medium tires, and you’ll need to remember its shorter duration as it closes next Thursday, August 27.

Accessing Online Time Trials
If you’ve not jumped into one of these before, you’ll first need to unlock Sport Mode by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe; see our full unlock guide here. There’s no need for a PlayStation Plus subscription to take part.
Once an event closes, prizes go out based on how close you got to the fastest lap: gold for anyone within 3% of the top time (2,000,000cr), silver within 5% (1,000,000cr), and bronze within 10% (250,000cr).
New events arrive every Thursday, and each runs for two weeks with the oldest dropping off as a fresh one appears. The next new Online Time Trial lands August 27.
