S2 is the time killer, mainly the corkscrew entry/exit. Check there first.Did what I though was a pretty good lap at Laguna, perfect no, but as good as other laps that yield me 2 to 2.5pc off the top time.
I am in the 27s....I just dont get it.
I'm only happy he did it under his real flag, as my country neighbor...Adam, in no uncertain terms: what the ****. A FULL SECOND faster? Took what was my unimpressive, but safe, gold time, to a 2.99%.
Considered turning off the reset at every sector setting and going for a slower ghost instead? Perhaps not ideal if you’re used to the resetting but still... better, no?Adam, in no uncertain terms: what the ****. A FULL SECOND faster? Took what was my unimpressive, but safe, gold time, to a 2.99%.
I literally do not understand where I'm losing all this time, or where you find any of the grip: because this car has absolutely none. It's impossible to get a fast, clean lap. I was over a full second and a half slower than my best time because I absolutely cannot find any additional time...or the car crashes (when I also hadn't found more time).
Also: **** you Polyphony for not doing a single thing about the ghost problem we already have, except make it worse. It basically makes this TT impossible for me, as I really need that ghost to follow, and I need it to reset at every sector.
This is ********. Honestly.
This is what I've already done, and even then I still start to lose the ghost since it doesn't reset. Typically, following a faster ghost that resets every sectors allows me, myself, to become faster because I can see braking points and lines taken and what not.Considered turning off the reset at every sector setting and going for a slower ghost instead? I'd sort of agree. I absolutely love The Ring, but it's just too much for a weekly TT event like this. The aliens are able to post some crazy times that us plebes (referring to myself, not you lol) really can't hope to approach. I think it's weird that some events have a relaxed 20% for bronze but not this one. Personally, I think for Nord TTs they should actually relax every tier - make it 5% gold, 8% Silver and 20% bronze. That way at least you have a decent chance of getting paid for the effort. They really need to cap TT lap times to around 3 minutes, because things like this most people just...don't have time for. I have to just make sure I'm gold on this one and make sure the Laguna Seca one is at a time I'm happy with and do all the Weekly Challenges before I leave for vacation on Saturday, since I won't be back for ~10 days, so that makes this all the more obnoxious that what should of been a safe gold I could just leave at Nurburgring suddenly, right near the end, is not at all, and now cuts into my LS TT time.
I feel really stupid and somewhat condescending but because of this post coupled with the fact that you are super fast: are you using the overtake button? This is what I've already done, and even then I still start to lose the ghost since it doesn't reset. But if the ghost is too fast now, it'll just be off, far ahead of me and thus of no use. And the ghost I've picked to follow probably isn't quite fast enough, so I'm not really seeing any improvement.
Or, if I do, the car goes and suddenly behaves erratically and crashes. I actually went and turned ASM back on because I was sick of some of the nonsense, and it still went so uncontrollable at one point that even that couldn't save it. The one lap I did complete with ASM on was damn near the same exact time as the one I managed to complete earlier yesterday with it off. That sector somewhat after the carousel is where I have to be losing seconds of time, because the car goes absolutely violent and I have to do everything in my power to keep it on the circuit.

Yup - I've got a folded bit of the top of Nespresso sleeve shoved into the back of the R3 button to keep it depressedI feel really stupid and somewhat condescending but because of this post coupled with the fact that you are super fast: are you using the overtake button?
I wanted to ask yesterday already (because you are usually super fast). But now you say that the ghost problems you experience is the ghost driving away. Everybody else has the issue that the ghost is "too slow", i.e. spawns behind oneself eventually that you can't see it unless you are too slow and it overtakes you.

Yeah, no. I gotta disagree.I'd sort of agree. I absolutely love The Ring, but it's just too much for a weekly TT event like this. Nobody tell him where it was developed, where Hyundai has a development hub, or what one of the three meanings behind the "N" branding is...I don't get the point of driving this thing on the Nordschleife.
Thanks, I know that's exactly why it’s also on the side of the Hyundai WRC car. But just because Hyundai builds a van, it doesn't mean we have to drive it on the Nordschleife. I get the meme, but if you're going to just accept everything, don't complain about what the automotive industry has become over the last 10 years.Nobody tell him where it was developed, where Hyundai has a development hub, or what one of the three meanings behind the "N" branding is...

They "developed" that other electric thing on the Nordschleife too (or so they say; in reality, aside from doing fast laps, I'd like to see how they actually developed it) and they even put up an ad on the bridge after Aremberg. But they didn't make a Time Trial out of it. In fact, luckily they chose Monza, where you had to start braking almost from the finish line on the previous lap just to stop the car at the first chicane...
In GT7, I want to drive cars, not rolling billboards. I don’t remember any other Time Trials at the Nordschleife using Ring Taxis. If anything, the only evocative Nordschleife TT was the one with the '73 Porsche, which was a nice nod to the Ruf Yellowbird lap. Plus, we already had the Honda and Hyundai TCR ones.
They could have just set the lap on the Nürburgring GP circuit, like they did with the other Hyundai road car and nobody would have complained. Honestly, that one might have actually been fun for a lap around the Nordschleife.
So, if they don't laserscan the track in Korea, does that mean every upcoming Hyundai TT is going to be at the Nürburgring? Or will every Honda car be forced onto Suzuka and every Toyota onto Fuji?
OK, IONIQ done! Honestly, after driving it again and taking it pretty cool it really wasn’t that bad as I initially thought. Be easy and calm on braking was the key, I think. Stay in the higher gear perhaps a little longer than you think while braking..
Having to press the overtake button obviously sucks (especially for a 9:30 lap) but yeah. Every time we’ve had a car with a button like this, DRS etc. they’ve always been activated so we’ll just have to deal with it even if I would prefer it to be inactive for a TT as it serves no purpose being alone on the track.
Usually I handle the accelerator with my index finger but when we’ve got this parameter to take care of as well I move my hand upwards and accelerate with the middle finger and the index goes to the overtake button at R1 instead. Not ideal but it works.

Yeah, no. I gotta disagree.
I will admit that when I was about 30-60 min deep into this TT I had that feeling, “I seriously can’t be arsed with a 9 min+ TT”, the insanely deep sigh as you botch a corner five min in and so on. With that said, no. Ignore a track? That means more repeats and frequent revisits where we’ve already been.
You don’t have to do all of them, if you don’t have the time.
Arbitrarily changing the gold percentage is a hard pass. I think things like this should stay firm and unchanged for continuity’s sake. The one time they changed it it went from 3 to 1,5% for the Olympic one. I can kind of understand why for a special one one might do something special with the percentages even if I’m against the idea but certainly not for one of the normal TT’s. Not to take a crap on someone’s ability but 5% is pretty lenient, especially if the car is slow. 5% in this one would be 9'54.936, that is 28,3 seconds behind the WR. I don’t really see how being pretty much half a minute behind the WR should warrant a gold medal.
The ’73 Porsche was pretty great and so was the 911 Club Sport ’95 but let’s not forget the early masterpiece, the NSX ’02 at Nordschleife (tuning allowed). Man, that thing handled like a dream. I still rank it as one of the top most fun TT’s of all time so far. Thanks, I know that's exactly why it’s also on the side of the Hyundai WRC car. Mh. Different things have different value to people, I guess. At this point the credits don’t really mean anything to me, sure they helped earlier on (should be a grand total of 452 mil I think if I’ve counted correctly, two at 4M) and I’ll always make sure I can receive the two mil but every now and then I go and purchase some expensive rides just to make sure to avoid the credit roof.Well, I mean the medals don't really mean anything other than the game credit rewards. Ultimately, it's the record board position that matters. They arbitrarily change the bronze percentage once in a while. My time on the Ring TT is like 4.70%...not far off bronze, and that had me sitting at about 8000 on the big board which is normally gold-worthy placing in these. But, it's all a moot point anyway because no changes will be made lol.
24 seconds off the WR sounds like a really lenient amount, sure. However, when I did my first lap in the TT it was I think 10:10.xxx or so and I looked at the cutoffs and saw I needed (at that time) about a 9:50 for gold and I thought "no problemo!" However, after doing a bunch of laps (many of which were blown in the last quarter lol) I only got down to 9:53 and the gold line has dropped significantly. The Ring is a special track...it's pretty unusual for the top time to be a full second ahead.
Really only if you do a bad job of that, sure. Honestly, so many cars are developed at Nurburgring, it doesn't make the car as special as Hyundai thinks it does.I'm with James May, worse thing you can do for anything other than an out and out sports car is "develop it on the Nurburgring", cue rock hard suspension and a crappy ride.
I know what you mean but it's not arbitrary. The bronze threshold changes from 10% to 20% for World Series events. They arbitrarily change the bronze percentage once in a while.
Ah, ok thanks for the clarification. That makes sense.I know what you mean but it's not arbitrary. The bronze threshold changes from 10% to 20% for World Series events.
I agree, for me, the '95 Porsche one was the best. But even the Elantra TCR, despite being front-wheel drive, was pretty nice (definitely better than the Gr.3 cars or the Red Bull).
If you want to believe they built that car on the Nordschleife, you're free to do so, but it’s all pure marketing. Unfortunately, since its bankruptcy, the Nurburgring takes sponsorships from absolutely anything. Back in the day, doing a lap on the Nordschleife was a real challenge mostly for the driver, since it's the one track where the car matters less.Weird, weird reply.
Hyundai actually developed the Ioniq 6N's handling at the Nurburgring. Here's the first test mule doing it back in 2024:
Thus it's an apposite place for it to be involved in a time trial: now you can drive the finished product where it was developed, and subsequently beat the Lexus LFA and Porsche Carrera GT when subjected to a hot lap in production form.
By "vans," I mean that that 2,300 kg thing is basically comparable to a Fiat Ducato (honestly, a Ducato might even weigh less). It's unclear what vans and WRC cars have to do with it. Or anything.
If you want to believe they built that car on the Nordschleife, you're free to do so, but it’s all pure marketing.
If your profile age is correct, you are seven years younger than me. You're only as "old" as you think you are, and age is no excuse for ignoring information to suit an entrenched mindset.Maybe I’m just getting old, but this stuff makes absolutely zero sense.
Then, fortunately, that's not what happened. Hyundai developed the regular Ioniq 6 to be a regular electric car to do regular electric car things; HMG is actually pretty good at battery and motor tech generally, and I've found their mi/kWh efficiency to be better than any peer.Plus, I genuinely don’t see the point of developing an electric car (which is supposed to be a non-polluting city car) just to race it on the Nordschleife with a weight of 2,200 kg, fake engine noise pumped through speakers, and a fake gearbox simulating a real one.
The WRC car livery is literally just the "Hyundai N" livery which you'll see on that, the Elantra N TCR, the Ioniq 5N's Pikes Peak cars, and probably others:As for the WRC, if I remember correctly, Hyundai has the "N" with Nurburgring on one side, and another "N" with the name of their headquarters/track in Korea. But I highly doubt they actually developed the rally car at the Nurburgring (again, it’s just marketing).
It was developed there, Hyundai has a major test facility there for vehicle dynamics and performance development, and the whole sub-brand is in part named for there.I don't get the point of driving this thing on the Nordschleife.
Quoted top speed is 257km/h, which I can only guess is limited by design for heating/derating purposes. Could be the max the drive will spin to I suppose, but I don't think PD got the acceleration right even accounting for N-GRIN Shift. I drove the 5N a couple of years back and it was quite a lot quicker - and I didn't use the boost from rest because that's silly. And I can only imagine that this car is not performing similarly to its real life counterpart, barely able to breach 250kmh even downhill
