EXCEPT.. THEY MESSED UP THE MOTORCYCLE PHYSICS
..feels like need for speed when yur riding the motorcycle. LoL 8(
...or does the that change when the driving attribute is increased.???? anyone???

Oh my god! Oh my god! You all won't see what's coming!!!!! Oh my god!!! Do not read below its a spoiler!!!

Johnny an his gf from the list an damned return!!!!

I was just introduced to Trevor.

For all who care I know I find the drivig physics to be like LA NOIRE. Cars twist with torque when revved but they still bog a lot.

The new control layout will take some getting used to, and one thing I miss from IV is your enemies' health reticules. You're a little unsure whether that guy you just gunned down is dead or not.

I thought that but then I noticed while shooting that for the final fatal shot your 'dot' reticule turns into a small white 'x' (if over a fatal shot position of the body) and if you kill them it then turns to a small red 'x'.

It's a bit subtle to miss in a massive gunfight but it is there :)

First impressions?

+Graphics... It is open world so it can never be as good as focused titles but my god, the lighting engine is incredible and the frame rate holds very well. I am in awe at times with water effects and lighting on the PS3.

+Missions, so far very fun and detailed (like interiors of buildings just used for odd missions), even the simple side missions are more engaging and detailed.

+Pretty much everything else (except a couple small things below), I would have to write a book if I were to list all the positives.

- Driving physics, bit too twitchy/overly responsive with not enough body roll and interaction with road surfaces like curbs etc. Also burnouts/donuts seems to be more limited if you aren't doing it at a standstill. I do like the better sense of speed though.

-Crashes and damage seem to be changed, hitting other cars like hitting walls now almost and vehicle doesn't deform so much anymore. However you can get a lot of deformation from punching and kicking cars though.

-I see a casino but can't enter, I am concerned gambling casino gaming isn't included, but hope it just needs to be unlocked.

Yeah, I was real bummed out about it too, at first. But I'm getting used to it. I'm a little slow at getting away in a car though because I keep tapping X to start it up out of force of habit! :p

Don't worry about it though, since the driving physics are a little more forgiving, though traffic AI is much better now. there's not do much of a learning curve for new button controls.

It's a good thing I accepted the controls in GTA IV cause it feels normal to me.

If you haven't found it out yet, and hated the driving camera position (behind vehicle) in GTA4, then you can use my new favorite feature: the ability to position the camera higher behind the vehicle (accessed in the settings while driving).

This is possible?! Oh god yes!!!!

I can understand what Rockstar was doing with the camera placement for chase cam, but its too low for me. I felt myself constantly having to pull down on the right stick to get a better view of the road.

That was always possible??? Since when is this new??

Just hit select on your controller :D

Absolutely amazing, loving all of it

characters, city, country, side missions, main story, everything :D

I agree with people saying driving physics are very twitchy but I found it easy to get used to

The graphics are amazing and screen shots posted earlier are great but they still look better when it is alive and not in a still

Actually that just put the camera farther back laterally from the vehicle (maybe a tad vertically, but not enough to see well enough over hills and the like). I know that many people, including me, would have to nudge the joystick up to be able to see over the vehicle when going over hills. This way, the camera is positioned higher as default.

Ow wow really?! I'm always putting the cam further back, and then adjust it manually to see further.

Thanks :D 👍

I found this and it is sooooooo much better :D I have always found I had to adjust the height of the camera :ouch:

CANT WAIT FOR ONLINE

AWW i love everything

Sorry for my english............ GTA doesnt go out of my Head

I played for many hours yesterday, doing a lot of exploring. I am at about 10% through the story mission.

Driving is definitely arcade, but I am enjoying it regardless.

A couple of things to note.

Drive up to the hills or some mountains & then drive off road. It is possible to climb impossible gradients in sports cars (and probably anything else) I ended up tearing across a mountain at high speed bouncing over impossible bumps and up impossible gradients. Eventually I crashed down a deep canyon, the car bounced down for ages & ended up upside down at the bottom. I still managed to roll it back to its wheels and continue, until I got submerged in a river.

So if you are looking for realistic physics then you will be disappointed.

However if you are looking for classic GTA fun in the most immersive and beautiful environment ever created for PS3 (and probably xbox). It is mother 🤬 brilliant!

I got my copy yesterday and played it all night. I am very happy with what Rockstar North have created.

I mainly stuck to the missions and left major exploring until I've finished the game. I did do some side activities, strip club, shooting range etc and they are fabulous! I can really see this game taking pride of place over GT6!
The graphics are pretty much the same as GTA 4 except more colourful which is massive aesthetic improvement. The driving physics are spot on, GTA 4's were terrible for me. The story is another GTA classic and I do like the
reference to Niko from Lester
Oh and also!
Packie McReary is back!!

I've not come across many police officers when in free roam which is pretty surprising. I'm also loving the characters, they are just typical GTA characters, weird and wonderful. 👍
I haven't explored the countryside yet but seeing how big the city is I do think I will end up lost in the countryside should my car break down. I've no idea how much I've completed over 5 hours but I can tell it will take a long while to finish the game. If only I had some extra days to take off work! :guilty:

Driving controls, I was one of the people who used the "classic" button layout in GTA IV and I'm sad to see them gone! Using the triggers to brake and accelerate is an unknown to me and I'm not sure I like it!

Maybe that's for the Xbox 360 version?

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone used a DFGT to play the game. I still have to see it because I'm getting mine on Friday. Hope the wheel works for this game.

So far, I'm liking it, but not loving it.

Don't get me wrong, its a technically a great game on every level, but.. something about it doesn't feel like GTA... I can't put my finger on it, but one of the first things that struck me, was how wide open the city was, it reminded me a lot of NFS: The Run! Driving phyiscs aside, it's much easier to just run flat out through the city without hitting anything.. And the whole character switching thing reminds me too much of the last Driver game. It feels like it's lost a little character in pursuit of being more real.

The other thing that it felt like was... when I first played Red Dead Redemption, it felt like GTA but in the old west... but now GTA V, feels like Read Dead Redemption, but in contemporary LA. That's not so much of a bad thing (because RDR was so good) but again it's like it's mixing its identity.

Don't get me wrong, it looks great, the attention to detail is fantastic, the story so far hangs together really well, it's obviously been very well thought out, the environment is amazing, the visuals are superb, the character customisation is great, the car customisation is great, (some of) the controls are better, all the other little features are great.

.. actually, two things I don't like about the game. 1) The soundtrack. I'm at 10% at the moment, and I've yet to have a good 'moment' with a song - y'know, where a song comes on, and it's a good song, and it's at exactly the right moment, that's a big part of GTA for me.

and, 2) I'm at 10% already. I had the unexpected and unwelcome* opportunity to play it for longer than expected last night (about 8 hours), and it's at 10% already --- and that time included a LOT of cocking about exploring the map... seriously.. take a PCJ600 on a straight-line North from LS! it's a surprisingly fun and capable off road bike --- but I'm worried that perhaps R* have sacrificed some of the longevity of the game assuming the online would compensate - which I'm sure it will for some.. but not me.

*I say unwelcome because it's due to a breakdown in communication with the missus... at least GTA is there for me when I need it!! ;)

It is a great game, but at the moment, it just doesn't have the feel of a GTA game for me..

.. I'm not tooo worried though, I felt the same thing about San Andreas to begin with.. and that turned out to be freakin' spectacular!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it doesn't feel like a GTA game. It looks way too much like MCLA in the city. If I wanted to play that, then I would. Lack I classic controls doesn't help.

I dunno it felt more GTA to me than GTA4...
My initial feeling in the first hour - this is just same old GTA, bah I wanted more... and I did get more as further layers were revealed :)

I didn't know that you can interact with people with the right directional button! Woah so much fun lost

--

On the other hand there is just too much swearing, it becomes really annoying after a while.
And the game is a tad too dark and nasty for a GTA game.

I assume you played the game on Xbox 360?

I've had that. I was driving along in the evening and I spotted a "GT40" at the side of the road. I stopped and jumped into it, and drove it away. The first song that played was Robert Plant's Big Log...

My love is in league with the freeway
It's passion will rise as the cities fly by
And the tail lights dissolve in the coming of night
And the questions and thousands take flight

And that fitted in rather nicely.

Why would issues like the control scheme or the writing and tone of the game be down to the 360 version? Those are design decision that have little to do with the hardware...

Just walked into Gamestop, bought the game and got the pre-order copy. I didn't even pre-order though. So that was nice. I only played the game for about an hour and I'm really enjoying it. I really like the aiming system but it's pretty difficult to see the little dot when driving. Other than that, no real gripes yet.

I thought that dot was little too. You can change it to complex in the options at display settings. It'll become a little circle, which is easy to see.

It is not A
B is A
It is B.

Fallacy detected.

Ha, good to know. I might just do that as well.

I'm loving the intertwining plot/story lines ala Pulp Fiction style. I didn't mess around all that much so far, just doing the missions right now; although I did take about 25 minutes to go for a joy ride. I went up the left side of the map and ended up at a mountain where I rode a Cable Car up to the peak, there are a bunch of Hiking trails up there.

Near that same area I took a Red F-150 look-alike Pickup on some offroad trails, I was immediately impressed with the berms and the uneven terrain of the dirt mountain trails, very realistic looking, also would be fun to go down it on a mountain bike. I ran acorss a bike rental place also in this area with a couple of mountain bikes ripe for the plucking, didn't try them yet though.

Haven't messed with the airports yet, saving that for later. I also want to try Tennis and Golf, maybe tonight if I get around to it. Hunting also seems like it would be fun, but I need to buy a proper hunting rifle first. I love that you can customize your weapons at Amunation, add scopes, extended clips, suppressors, etc.

My one complaint: You should be able to save anywhere not just at safe houses. I thought they would update the old save system as it is both annoying and antiquated.
