This thread is so full of bull:censored: it makes me dissapointed to even call myself a member here.

Oh dear, people don't think the way you do.

This site is saturated with Mustang fanboys, if the opinions here are putting you off so much then I shudder to think about how you'll handle other car forums.

With all due respect, if its really that bad, then you can make use of that Ignore list. I'm not on anyone's side, I'm just naming an option. ;)

It's not the opinions that are putting me off, it's the fact that people are making knocking it as less of a car when they don't need to or because they don't like it. I don't have a problem with opinoins, I have a problem with people ripping on you because they don't agree with what they say. GTP be like "your opinion is wrong because it's not my opinion therefore the car sucks and is seriously uncool even though our definitions of cool are different it doesn't matter because I am right and you are wrong and that's that".

I think you're hitting it pretty close, and I know I've probably been guilty of it too. Seriously though, don't accuse me of trying to force strange opinions on others when, out in the real world, yours are likely stranger in a lot of places. Most people, if they saw a Boss 429, would just think it was cool because it was a good-looking classic muscle car, regardless of how much they knew about it. They wouldn't think of it as a rich old white guy's (remember, it can't be racist if your targets are white!) garage display piece, or an overdone, underperforming heap, they'd just see it and think "hey, that's cool". And furthermore, I think it'd take a certain type of car person to not be interested in a Boss 429, let alone to think it was less cool than a standard Mustang.

Speaking of, one thing I just realized is that, whenever the GTP core group gets a call wrong, it usually has to do with the car's standing with one or more groups of people that are actually bad judges of coolness. Example: saying supercars are uncool because people will see them and key them up/slash their tires because they hate rich people. Right, because people who vandalize expensive things out of petty jealousy are such great judges of coolness. Or there's just a certain specific type of haughtiness about their posts - "lots of normal and/or cool people would think this car was cool/uncool, but that's only taking it at face value. We know better because we're the Car Intelligentsia and we look deeper."

"lots of normal and/or cool people would think this car was cool/uncool, but that's only taking it at face value. We know better because we're the Car Intelligentsia and we look deeper."

Couldn't be further from the truth.

As per Famine: If only car enthusiasts like it, then it isn't cool, because car enthusiasts aren't cool.

Coolness is communal. Lots of people besides tire slashing hoonigans think supercars are uncool.

Also, who is this "core group" you speak of? Because as far as I can tell, this car has garnered a nearly unanimous cool vote. (including mine) Are you saying, thus, that you think this car should be voted seriously uncool?

Most people, if they saw a Boss 429, would just think it was cool because it was a good-looking classic muscle car, regardless of how much they knew about it.
Nope. They wouldn't even notice it. Most people don't give a rat's ass about cars - we're a minority.
They wouldn't think of it as a rich old white guy's (remember, it can't be racist if your targets are white!)
Who said anything about white guys? I said it was a lottery winner's 'muscle car' pick...
And furthermore, I think it'd take a certain type of car person to not be interested in a Boss 429, let alone to think it was less cool than a standard Mustang.
You actually answered the question in the affirmative when it was pointed out that even most car people wouldn't be able to tell it apart from a standard Mustang unless it was next to one or until it was really, really close, confirming my point about it being just another Mustang to all intents and purposes.

So it's not that it's less cool than one, but that it is one.
Speaking of, one thing I just realized is that, whenever the GTP core group gets a call wrong...

... we know better because we're the Car Intelligentsia and we look deeper."
That's irony AND false consensus in one hit. Nicely done!

And wrong too - my point on this car is that most people wouldn't care and most of the car people subset who might care wouldn't be able to tell it apart unless it was fifty feet away. That's the exact opposite of the "I care about this car so my opinion is right regardless of what normal people think" mindset you ascribe to the "GTP core group".

Oddly you could describe what the Mustang/Americana/vintage/big engine fans in this thread are doing as...
"lots of normal and/or cool people would think this car was cool/uncool, but that's only taking it at face value. We know better because we're the Car Intelligentsia and we look deeper."
Normal people wouldn't care. You're ignoring that because you know better (because false consensus effect) and look deeper...
Example: saying supercars are uncool because people will see them and key them up/slash their tires because they hate rich people. Right, because people who vandalize expensive things out of petty jealousy are such great judges of coolness.
Yeah, I think you missed the point on that one. Quite badly.

They wouldn't think of it as a rich old white guy's (remember, it can't be racist if your targets are white!) garage display piece
I've got a homework assignment for you, since you felt the need to call me out on something I said a week ago for being racist: Watch the next Barrett-Jackson auction. Watch when a Hemi Barracuda or Camaro SS or Corvette 427 crosses the auction block. Then count for me how many of the people who buy every single one, many times multiple ones, are neither old (we'll say 50+) nor white. I'd be surprised if you needed more than one hand to do it.

It's not the opinions that are putting me off, it's the fact that people are making knocking it as less of a car when they don't need to or because they don't like it.

There's a lot of this in the cool wall threads and it's not just in threads about Mustang's or muscle cars in general. Go back and look at any car that's a hybrid, electric, or doesn't conform to what people think car enthusiast should like, it's all filled with the same stuff and mostly from people complaining about the same thing in this thread.

I don't care what kind of edition this is, I think this is the best looking Mustang.
Not Sub zero, but a very strong cool.

(remember, it can't be racist if your targets are white!)
If you were wondering why it being a car for old rich white guys leads to people calling it uncool, it has a lot to do with the attitude you've expressed here. White people complaining about "reverse racism" miss the point so much.

It's not the opinions that are putting me off, it's the fact that people are making knocking it as less of a car when they don't need to or because they don't like it.

So just like how anything you don't like, has less than 8 cylinders, or isn't American is either a grocery getter, boring, looks like ass, or would get you "laughed at around here".

You're upset because it's a Mustang. Anything that comes up for vote besides trucks and muscle cars gets the same baseless criticism from you.
