Honestly I don't think the car is as bad as it is percieved... it WOULD be very cheap to own one. But it is seriously uncool. The only cars less cool in my opinion is the smart fortwo and anything electric besides Tesla or Fisker.

A prius for the cool wall no way not cool at all! But at least the prius isn't as uncool as the porsche panamera or the, Ugh Pontiac Aztek Ugh that hurts for me to say. Now excuse me while I go repent for mentioning the ugh aztek and bury my face in a pillow while I have nightmares of the Ugh aztek.

That's the third-gen, though; the first-gen had a race car too:

That first gen rally car is gorgeous.
 
I think this is a great and very important car.

However the people who drive it are never cool. Most buy it to give the image that they're saving the world, but they're not.

It isn't as bad as some make it out to be, but the environmental effects from building one are not good.

Aside from that, if I truly wanted to save the planet I'd buy a Volkswagen Polo Bluemotion. It's far better as far as saving gas goes, and the planet.

The fact that everybody thinks this is the ultimate green car when it isn't is what actually earns this the seriously uncool.
(And that every single Hollywood actor has one just to say they own one while they go off in their V8 Jag 99% of the time)

Not you specifically. It doesn't necessarily make the people uncool either, they have good intentions at least. It's just that so many (especially the 1%) buy them for the publicity even though their every day car is some Ferrari or Lamborghini.
 
Hit the PriusChat forums or the general automotive boards, and you'll find that a lot of car geeks and tech geeks buy the Prius simply for the cool tech.

The 1% buys what the 1% buys. Prii, Hummers, Lexii, etcetera. I'd vote on a car's coolness based on that, but the Prius is no longer the greenwash poster boy it used to be. All the posers have moved on to Fiskers.

The only Prius owner I know locally is a racing driver.

One who's driven the 25 hours of Thunderhill, several times.

And she's a girl. :D

Cool owner. Still not enough to make the Prius more than a "meh".

There may be exceptions, but Prius's where I live cut you off, prevent you from passing and go 30 in a 45.

I don't find that sight enjoyable at all... It just makes me feel glad that it's a silver one with a US plate...
 
I don't really get any pleasure out of watching any car get destroyed, to be honest. I like the hobby too much.

Then again, if a car is that much of an object of derision to some people, said car is doing its job wonderfully.

To me, the first gen Prius is cool. However, the second gen here is the one that reminds everyone that you're a fart-sniffing, granola eating hippy that has a coexist sticker, hence seriously uncool.
