Had lots of fun racing these things against eachother in GT5. So slow it's funny to watch them race.

Buuuuuuuuut, I still wouldn't like driving these anyway, fuglytacular (This gen atleast), it's of the boring toyotas and terribly stereotypical, brings out the stupidty in society for some reason too, the top monkey scientists are still struggling with that.

Just because a car is important does not make it "cool". Model T is a very important car, but I don't see anyone calling it a "cool" car.

It's importance doesn't make it cool, as Harry stated. I would never in my life own one. I'd rather ride a bike or walk.

I object. Hypermiling can be fun.

When you find yourself nodding off after two hours of accelerating from 40 to 60 mph and coasting back down again, however, there is the temptation to turn on the radio to listen to a little Footloose.

I'm a hypermiling champ in my Sentra . Just don't follow too close.

I just rate it at uncool. It's not at seriously uncool due to the fact the Prius was sort of the Pioneer of Hybrid cars I think & it does get decent gas millage. What makes it uncool imo is that it's ugly, boring, & plus I've seen some morons drive this car before. Like this lady (warning, video may contain strong language):


Of course, I'm not saying that everyone that owns a Prius is smug or stupid, there's normal people that just drive it to save money on gas and I understand that. It's just not the car I would drive if I wanted more MPG, I would pick a Ford Fusion Hybrid or a VW Jetta TDI.

Some of the biggest irrational talk I've ever seen from a person, the irony is she is fat/unhealthy and yet her priorities are yelling at people who have combustion vehicles? That really makes sense, if she keeps it up she'll end up giving herself a heart attack in one of her tirades against the gas oppressors.

It's as if she is about to cry be the exhaust gases exist in the world. I wonder how many petrol vehicles killed the many cats she has, smh.

Exactly. Though we were rolling at the time, there was no one behind us that I remember, and I accelerated quickly after that.

The real problem up here isn't hypermilers though. It's people who slow down to 10 under whenever there's some slush on the road. My car has some really nice snow tires on it and can maintain speed limits on just about anything short of sheet ice, but most other people either can't or don't think they can. I've been mere seconds late to work on a couple occasions because of this. School buses (responsible for one of those incedents) have an excuse, normal people with normal cars don't.

Which is why you don't do it in traffic, obviously.

Eco-driving requires a raft of techniques far beyond simply "driving down the road at 37.5 mph."

A lot of racing techniques help here, too. Momentum, spacing, etcetera.

You can eco-drive in a manner in which nobody will notice. As I do. Or you can eco-drive like a total jerk.

Just like you can enjoy speed in a manner in which nobody will notice, or you can rev your engine at every stoplight for no apparent reason and accelerate and slow down in an erratic manner.

When I drive fast, nobody notices.

Unless you drive a Sunbird, in which case the first one is false because the car will break down while revving, thus blocking the road. The second one is irrelevant because, well, it's a Sunbird. The third is false because no Prius owner is going to feel self conscious about a 20 year old rust bucket revving the snot out of their engine next to them when they have a new car that doesn't fall apart. Also, they probably couldn't hear it anyways over their music, or if they could, they'd think it was the engine in the Sunbird acting up.

Also, if you were insecure/self conscious, you wouldn't be driving a Prius. You'd be driving something along the lines of this:

Everyone keeps saying the J-V6 is unreliable. Mine, not in the best of condition, just keeps on going and I beat it like a rented mule. And it sounds a lot better than people here give it credit for.

If they're in a real hurry, then they can pass. If they're just wanting to get home from the game faster, then tough for them if I'm going 1mph under the limit on that 2km hill.
(Although usually what happens is I end up overspeeding because of the hill, as long as there's no turn at the bottom it;s fine. Convert the energy back into distance, or to get up that next hill.)

And I'm not going to speed up if someone is on my bumper. If they sit there, they're an asshat who can just sit there and steam.

If you're late to work because of traffic, then it is 100% your fault.

Plan to get places 15-20 minutes early and you'll never have problems short of the highway being blocked.

Probably one of the single most ignorant comments, first off most people who do hypermile are doing so behind semi-trucks in the slow lane, if someone is riding your bumper in the slow lane when the passing lane is clear they're a moron. Second, most people do this on long trips not the morning commute in rush hour traffic where it does nothing but make you potentially later to work. So...not sure where you got your idea from.

The posted speed limit isn't meant to apply in all conditions (it's for ideal conditions, actually), and a fact of being late to work is that you could have left earlier.

I'm not convinced of anthropogenic global warming either but definitively claiming that global temperatures won't climb/change is no more rational than claiming they will climb without any doubt. The global climate certainly changes, the question is whether we have that much of an impact on it.

On the subject of air pollution I have a link to share that puts the state of things today into perspective.

And global warming is a misnomer. Climate change is the problem. And whether it's anthropogenic or not, it's a problem that affects us. We can't expect the climate to stay stable in the long run, when in the past it has swung between extremes of heat and cold.

When somebody's driving too close behind me I generally try to find a way to get said person arrested for dangerous driving...

Having a passenger photograph their number plate and then sending the picture into the police usually works.
