Jet fuel? I'd think they used ships, not planes.

I guess gasoline just comes out of the ground where the gas stations are too. It's not like crude oil needs to be transported, refined, and then transported again even before being usable by cars.

Oil platforms and fracking plants (or whatever they're called) probably don't need any energy or materials to be built, maintained and operated either.
Even with ships it wouldn't be good for the environment.

Well, as Mr. Regular said, the Prius is what makes our MR2's and muscle cars cool. It's taking one for the team. And I'll give it that.

Slow, terrible view out, does more damage to the environment to make the car than it will ever save, and you'll still never look cool in it. SU

Educate Thyself before spouting nonsense.

It's a pdf file.

I love Prius threads. They're the perfect barometer to indicate people who take the time to learn about cars and those who saw a website or watched a TV show once and subsequently based all their opinions on that.

The car? Still seriously uncool. There's very little objectively wrong with the Prius, but the stigma attached is massive. As @Tornado pointed out, the Prius ranks - amusingly - alongside the Hummer H2 for being universally stigmatised in wider media. I'm sure the vast majority of Prius owners drive them to make use of the fuel savings, but even the most innocent are carrying a whole heap of sociological baggage with them.

If I were a family man with the ability to buy a new~ish car, the Prius would probably be on my short list. How uncool it may be, it saves you money here like no other car.

Would like a source on that but whatever. It's what I heard so I'm not changing my opinion on the car.

I'm not trying to make you chance your opinion, I just provide information for the uneducated.

I like Prii but they're not cool cars.

Is that the plural form of Prius?

hsv

No, it's priora or priores in Latin... although this is an English proper noun so really the plural is Priuses. Just like the plural of Ford Focus is Ford Focuses, not Ford Focii.

Back on-topic... not a bad car but it's the preserve of brown-suited history teachers and bead-wearing ladies from social support backgrounds (in my opinion), and I hate the styling :D

Seriously Uncool.

Actually, Toyota held an official manufacturer vote on what should be the plural form - Prii was the top vote.

Unfortunately Toyota's power to change the English language is far from absolute. Also that vote was nearly tied with "Prius" as a plural, as I recall.

EDIT: Saucii.

If ignorance is what you desire, don't ask for the information in the first place.
I never did. I never asked for anyone to give me information. Wanted a source on the short article, but I don't want it given to me. Had a rough day so far and this isn't what I needed. Just drop it

Ah, what see I did you there. I think.

You did claim (sourcelessly) that it
I just heard it from top gear, maybe it isn't true, I don't care. Insulting me was completely uncalled for @Dennisch you just lost my respect for you. Now please leave me alone and drop the subject. I'm tired of arguing with people on a computer somewhere.

Insult?

When and where?

Then stop starting the arguments. This is an online message board, not a school playground. People can't respond to things you said that are false if you don't say them in the first place; nor can they respond to your continued assertions that you don't want to know other than what you said earlier (that was false) if you don't keep bringing that up as well.

Interesting.
It all seems to boil down to one thing... How long you keep the car on the road. Production of the hybrids is far worse than normal cars but operation is far better with hybrids and eventually outweighs the penalties associated with production.

New Eco-Crime: Crashing a Prius with less than 160,000 miles on the odometer.

I didn't start any arguement. I simply said what I thought was true. And used that to sway my vote. Now stop. I'm done. I've had it. My day started terrible. This helped out a lot.

The parts have to be shipped from around the world, the pollution from the Jets and the required work from the factories create more pollution than this thing ever would. Not to mention the toxic batteries on board.
They would never be flown. And many other cars have highly globalised production processes. To say that the Prius is special in this regard is simply ignorant. Unless you can prove unequivocally that the Prius is much worse than non-hybrids in this respect, I stand by that statement.

Come on people, Top Gear is not a factual programme.

Other members informed you that what you thought was true was not true. And you responded:
It's what I heard so I'm not changing my opinion on the car.
I want you to read that back to yourself a few times. You heard something that other people are showing you, with data, isn't true, but you're not going to change your opinion and stick with what you heard?

Next time someone posts something that you know is wrong and can prove is wrong with data, I want you to think back to this line.
Now stop. I'm done. I've had it. My day started terrible. This helped out a lot.
What kind of day you're having doesn't really have any bearing on whether what you heard is factually incorrect and can be updated with new knowledge.
everyone flipped out over one thing that was said. Unbelievable.
There doesn't seem to be a great deal of flipping out here - at least amongst members who are not you.

You've posted something demonstrably untrue - albeit in good faith - and several members have pointed out that it is untrue and why. With supporting data and sources. That's relevant, factual and indeed helpful - you thought you knew something, but it turned out you didn't, so now you do because some members have provided you with new information.

Since then you've posted several exhortations to other people to "stop" (stop what? Stop replying to you? Stop posting in this thread?), some opinions on other people's characters and a handful of comments that suggest that things have been a bit sub-par for you outside the site today - replete with double-posts aplenty. None of that's relevant or helpful. If anything was flipping out, it'd be this:

I don't care. At all.
I never did. I never asked for anyone to give me information. Wanted a source on the short article, but I don't want it given to me. Had a rough day so far and this isn't what I needed. Just drop it

The table flipping garbage is what lost you my respect.everyone flipped out over one thing that was said. Unbelievable.
That looks like the postings of someone incredibly angry.

Perhaps if you've had a terrible day, you shouldn't be posting here until real life has calmed down and you are better able to make rational decisions here.

My sister had one of these. I used to ride in it all the time when I visited her Arizona before she wrecked it. They're not that bad, the interior IMO is comfortable, and they could be surprisingly quick at times. Functional is definitely a fitting term for them, but giving the stigma that the car carries, it is anything but cool.

"I didn't start any argument. I simply said something that was false and then spent 7 posts telling everyone how much I didn't care that it was false when it was pointed out to be false."

everyone flipped out over one thing that was said. Unbelievable.
The only one in this thread who has flipped out over anything is you.

Hey bud :)
Well, I found this. This is from a couple years ago, so maybe things have changed.

Just gonna tag you, @Tornado

This is probably the first generation of Prius I would actually consider buying as it actually looks somewhat decent compared to previous ones. Of course if I was seriously considering buying a hybrid I would probably lean closer to the Prius C or one of the various hybrid versions of compact cars as they are cheaper.

Seriously Uncool.

That report was written using faulty logic and came from a biased source. It was quite quickly discredited and is now only cited, really, by coal rollers and the like.

I'd also like to add that a blog has no credibility as a source. You may as well be telling me that you live on the Death Star and that you're married to Princess Leia.
