eeehm I guess you're right, despite the fact the price looks tempting compared to other #2 XJR9s it's still 250€ for a damaged model and that's a lot
Well, if you are willing to wait a year or so, TSM will be releasing a 1/18 XJR-9. I will probably be getting one myself since Exoto prices went silly.

REALLY? I thought TSM was only gonna make the 1:43 version...
YES, that's some great news, I'll wait then, unless I find a cheap test version
Now I was planning to get some GT monsters, like the RX-7 GTO IMSA (from Truescale) and/or the nice street legal Nissan Nismo GT-R LM from Otto.
Too bad the RX-7 has a huge price tag, it's like 215€ on eBay...

Yep, gonna be a full opening diecast XJR-9, and unlike the Exoto the front will even open. Pics of a prototype were shown at the Nuremberg Toy Fair this year. Also, I did not think the resin RX-7 IMSA GTO was out yet in 1/18. I have been interested in getting that one myself...

Diecast? Another reason to wait for the TSM.
The resin RX-7 1:18 is out, ck modelcars and cartima are selling 2 of them

This italian seller has a nice Jag Exoto...the model has been in my whishlist for a long time...listed for 250€ or best offer.
Looks like it has a damaged suspension, the windscreen wiper is not the original one and as you can see from the photos it has some paint chipping on the door junctions...should I make an offer?

BTW Door Junctions will inevitably chip due to the rubbing when opening and closing the doors.

I had an XJR-9 in the past. Fastest model I ever sold (not solely for that reason though). I could justify having dog leg hinges if it means not having paint-less ball-joints.

The system used on the C9 doors...for this reason, sealed models have an advantage
I'll wait for the TSM, unless I got an incredibly great deal.

166.35 euros @ CK with all possible discounts applied.
But I don't have access to any discounts

Wait, how do you use the DX discount on CK anyway? I ordered from them a few times and forgot each time to look into it...

Send them an email and tell them that you are a diecastsociety member, you will automatically have 10% off (plus the 19% VAT we saved) every time you logged in.

Does that count for DiecastXchange too? And I assume I have to tell them my username?

I believe you cannot have multiple 10% discounts at CK, there is a diecast arena discount too but you can only pick one of those and inform them about it.

lol, yeah I figured the discount wouldn't stack. Only a member of DX anyway. Well I emailed them so we shall see what happens. Might order the Mazda today or tomorrow...

yeah you ought to be part of DS for the news and discounts.

Also less materialistic people there too. Well, less people altogether.

Do they get discounts that DX members don't? And how active is it? Don't really know much about it, since I don't recall it being around when I registered on DX like 12 years ago lol...

That I don't know. All I know is DX lacks info organization.

It's been almost half a year since I got this model. I wanted a 1/18 version of the hardtop 458, but since intact ones cost a lot on eBay, I had to settle with either this or a red 1/18 458 Spider, which are all Newace has on offer if you wanted a 458. I eventually got this, because I wanted a car that I truly like, not a substitution. The following sums up what I'm impressed with the car, and what I'm disappointed:

What I'm impressed with:
  • the fact they decided to use flocking for some of the interior
  • the abundance of photo-etched parts
  • their attention to detail (most, if not all of the air inlets and vents are recreated using plastic or metal with mesh patterns instead of just painting them black)
  • the accuracy of the model (I can't comment on this for sure, but it seems pretty accurate for me)
What I'm disappointed with:
  • the fact one of the brake calipers on both the left and the right of the car has the tampo upside-down
A lot of words that are probably going to be ignored, I know. :P So here are a few pictures:

An image of the engine bay:

And one extra pic:

That's all when it comes to 1/43 models. The next time I post in this thread, it'll probably be for the big one in 1/18... that is, if I don't buy any 1/43 models again.

Well I'm not a massive 458 specialist, but I'd say that's nicely accurate for a budget 1/43 option. The paint is good, no excessive usage of flakes, and the engine bay seems to have good detailing. All things considered, I'd say you got something close enough to your dream without breaking the wallet... That's why we buy these models sometimes, isn't it? :sly:

Yeah. I forgot the price (I guess it's somewhere around 22 USD), but the car is excellently detailed and executed for its price. Personally I can accept a 1/18 hardtop HWE version if it's sold at a price no higher than 130 USD at a local hobby store (I prefer buying from a store to buying online due to various reasons), but searching on eBay right now for sold listings gives me auctions that has the buyer paying around or more than that.
I told myself that I can accept a 1/43 version of a model if the engine is still visible in it and a 1/18 version isn't readily and cheaply available, so I bought this 458. Sure, I have a few dissatisfactions about the car, such as the presence of a tiny black dot on the rear fender of the car, and I'd have preferred the interior in tan instead of black, but the car is definitely a worthy purchase with fantastic quality.
Thanks. :)

Spent some days deciding how the heck I'm going to fit a diffuser in the tight amount of space there is under the car... That exhaust pipe causes all sorts of troubles in this regard, so I took to the web to see what diffusers people are installing on their real FDs....

Unfortunately due to the exhaust pipe's location it would seem the trending options are:

234331-rear-diffuser-replaces-rear-bumper-lip-753974_102_full.jpg

Super squarish contour which doesn't match the curves of the tail light and bumper.

s-l1000.jpg

Would've went for this but I did shave the lower section of the rear bumper making this ver difficult to work around the exhaust pipe.

So since I already started with the two flaps on the side, I figured I may as well use something like Rocket Bunny's:

YcBlZWgl.jpg

Just need to add the rest of it.

Glued the styrene to the undercarriage rather than the flaps that are glued to the body. This is to give me a flat surface to attach the blades later. One of the biggest challenges here is that it's easier to attach the diffuser to the flaps on the side, but that means I can never take out the base afterwards.

There hasn't been an update in a while. Since it's bright out, why not now?

Here's what I'm doing about that exhaust. I'm cutting off the stock one; muffler and all. I'm going the lazy route and literally gluing in a cylindrical shaft somewhere on the base. Somewhere. Didn't want to spend the money on a metal tube, so I'm using scrap goodies I have lying around; a dowel! I've carefully drilled into the one end to give some impression of a tube. I will be wrapping it in bare-metal foil to get the impression of a metal tube, and will be colouring the inside a matte black so you can't tell it's fake. :P

S1YoRo8l.jpg

Remember how I said I was just going to glue it onto the base somewhere? Well, there wasn't a good surface, so I just made one. It will be coloured appropriately to avoid sticking out like a sore thumb.

Letting that sit for like another month, I finally said there's probably nothing left to be done, so I've went and laid down the primer to see where I need to correct some surfaces just now:

GUeFp0kl.jpg

Here are some notable surfaces I will be working on next:

v204iz4l.jpg

Needs filler.

K1Igu9ol.jpg

Smooth out that panel between the skirt and door.

BiFGrhyl.jpg

Will be considering if I can get rid of the second parting line, which ever one is not deliberate, as well as that gunk above the diffuser "blade".

pQrpjGal.jpg

After all these years the putty job I did to correct the arches wasn't good.

bs3dbofl.jpg

I knew about the straight lines, but it didn't occur to me how deep of a crack it was.

The black F40 with gold wheels actually looks kinda nice. Maybe if the gold was a bit more toned down, like, maybe semi-gloss. Also the color of that Aventador is hot. Reminds me of Reflex Purple from TVR.

Damn that Ford GT GTE...

Having seen it in the flesh, I was absolutely gobsmacked by its looks and sound. Has there been any info regarding a 1/18 model of the GTE Chip Ganassi car? I'd imagine Spark might do one...

I believe TSM have the rights of all GTE Ford GTs.

Another update on the RX-7. Ayyyyy

Didn't think I was going to go with white as the choice of colour, but I'm sad to report that because I'm using a light colour, the surface imperfections are bright as day, but seeing as how delayed this project is, I'm going to live with it and/or cover it up somehow.

k545g8dl.jpg

That totally doesn't look like white for some reason. Probably spent an hour getting the paint to finally work on the airbrush... god I hate setting up on that thing.

Wheels as is: gloss grey...

wheels now: gun metal.
