A bit of a primer for next week, when I’m expecting a mountain of vinyl. Apparently February 21st is the best day to release stuff.

Candlemass - Nightfall & House of Doom. I went to pre-order their upcoming EP and bought these. I was actually worried the post office lost these as they couldn’t locate the package, but thankfully someone just forgot to scan it when they put it on the truck to re-attempt the delivery. The fact it was an imported package only served to complicate things even more. Thankfully they’re now in my possession and arrived without a scratch.

Albert Cummings - Believe.

Nathaniel Rateliff - And It’s Still Alright.

@Northstar I hate it when the post office / delivery company mislay a record. I have visions of it sitting at the bottom of a van with parcels stacked on top.

some new items for me...

This is the new EP from “The Utopia Strong” this trio go from strength to strength. It’s a self release and the package is hand printed along with the inner labels. It’s also signed too.

This next LP is contender for album of the year. I’ve posted a link to the YT version in the “what are you listening to” thread. Craven Faults is a Yorkshire based electronic producer. He uses modular synths etc and it’s just an incredible album.

More records with loads on the way.

Picked up a nice tote bag for my local shop.

I also picked up another two Earl Klugh LPs. After buying the MoFi one a few weeks ago, I couldn’t pass these up. I’m not sure how the pressings will be but hopefully they’ll be good enough.

I also found another Everything But The Girl album so couldn’t pass this by either.

The last two albums are part of the reissue series Blue Note are doing “Tone Poet”. The quality of these records is second to none, from the sleeve card & photography into the actual pressing and mastering of the music. Sublime.

Despite the virus hitting the world hard, records are still being ordered and delivered.

Two more added and two more ordered.

edit - make that another two added!!!

First up is the new album by Ben Watt of Everything But The Girl fame. His solo work is rock solid and certainly worth a listen for some laid back vibes.

And just like that, out of the 4 ordered 3 have arrived.

First is a new 7” from Dream Division. Excellent analogue synth stuff and worth checking out if you’re into that kind of music.

Next are two white label test pressings from Jane Weaver. Excellent synth pop for the modern age. Brill stuff.

Another record from On The Corner Records. I spoke with the label owner last night and it’s chaos in the industry for small independent labels at the moment. Hopefully people keep buying and they can stay afloat enough to come out the other side.

Guedra Guedra EP

Moroccan dance floor fire.

New record added.

Hunter Complex - Dead Clam And Zero Degrees

Brilliant synth album and worth checking out if you like synth wave type stuff. Think along the lines of Vangelis with a modern twist.

New to the collection.

Cavern Of Antimatter - In Fabric Soundtrack

This is the first press paper bag version. It sold out super quick and flippers are selling copies for much inflated prices.

I haven’t posted here in awhile but I’ve still been steadily adding to my collection. My latest addition was Geddy Lee’s solo album which apparently received a Record Store Day release featuring a couple bonus tracks.

8A9045AD-2854-4707-8BA5-FD5A460AE480.jpeg

I wasn’t going to buy it right now, but it was a case of it being one of the last reasonably priced copies and being a Rush fan I didn’t want to let the opportunity slip away.

My local record store was finally able to re-open so I had to pay them a visit to show my support.

Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan - In Session
Fleetwood Mac- Rumours
Johnny Cash - At San Quentin (Original 1969 Pressing)
Wishbone Ash - Wishbone Ash
Billy Joel - An Innocent Man
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Live Bullet

A couple new additions to my collection.

Larkin Poe - Self Made Man: I randomly checked them out while browsing upcoming releases. I'm happy I did as they are pretty good.
Blackberry Smoke - Live from Capricorn Sound Studios: When probably my favorite modern band releases a charity EP I kind of have to buy it.

oh wow cool.
a vinyl thread :)
I started buying them in 2001, only very infrequently with many years of not buying anything. I think 2018 was the peak with 121 records and 2 CDs (:dopey:) in the whole year.
In 2019 it were 89 records and 7 CDs. In 2020 it's 30 LPs and 7 CDs so far (ummm.. yes I have an Excel sheet for this.. hehe). With one LP already in the pipeline (I pre-ordered but the release was postponed over a month to mid July)
I think in 2017 and 2018 I bought many records just for the sake of owning it. At the moment I really think twice about it and I only buy it when I really really need it :D
Also a bummer is that my local record store had to close because the owner died last summer. Bought many used vinyl there and he always had some gems.

You guys can find my small collection of vinyl (and CDs) here:

My latest addition is from last friday:

Well yesterday had the postman deliver 6 new albums to the house.

The first two shown here are from my favourite label On The Corner Records.

47D53A7E-51F8-4A73-ABFE-BFC8D9BA4963.jpeg

This is Siti Muharam - Romance Revolution on Zanzibar. The history and work which had to go into this record is epic and spans Zanzibar to the UK. If you love traditional folk music from around the world then this is for you.

D6962A59-B34F-42E4-B396-0C716D364E73.jpeg

Next is Asher Gamedze - Dialectic Soul. It has to be one of the best Jazz albums released this year along side David Hay - Many Rivers. A seriously brilliant album and spread over two slabs of wax.

First up are the Lowfield Works EPs by Craven Faults. A very mysterious artist from Yorkshire my own home county.

A must have for my ever growing record collection. The latest hand made EP from The Utopia Strong. If you have a liking for Krautrock, synth soundscapes or like Tangerine Dream etc. Then check them out. Not to mention the added curiosity that Steve Davis the British Snooker player is the chap on the modular synth.
