Yes cause you will hear the tune before you get a chance to react and place ear buds on.

Thus whammed.

It is not like you get whammed when you hear the words "Last Christmas I gave you my heart" then you get whammed.

Now I completely disagree with this. There are countless covers that all start the exact same way as the original, and you can't tell until the voice starts singing. So, by what you say, you're whammed the moment you hear the song, even if it's a cover, which is stated to be otherwise in the OP.

What I say is that it's only the singer that gets you Whammed. Hear the tune, run, even if it's a cover.

God-damn.

I was winning this until I just tuned into the X Factor final.

X Factor final, what's the decision here, I can't really comment as I wasn't actually listening to who was singing or anything but I did hear it.:scared:

I think the second the music starts, you are whammed. If it's the original anyway. Maybe the OP could clarify, but perhaps there should be a rule that if you hear the intro, you have to wait and see if it's the original or not. Not original, you're safe. Original, then it's curtains for you.

That would be my guess. The op can clarify, but I don't think it's right that someone may have been whammed, but switched it over and "assumed" it was a cover.

I'm taking this very seriously. I want to make it to the end of the year with no doubts.

If you have to question it, you're probably Whammed. People are starting to get too technical with this.

Just trying to weed out any potential cheating. I think my way works best.

Well I got through the mall unscathed. However, my bank account got frozen (somebody over 100km away tried to take out $500 fraudulently from my account at the same time I was buying a book at the mall), so I'll have to go back next week :nervous:

I realised I made a pretty stupid rule that if you hear the intro, consider yourself Whammed! whereas it's possible if the song is a cover. So in order to be completely certain, continue to listen to the intro. If it's a cover, mentally or physically pat yourself on the back/hug yourself/weep tears of joy. If it turns out to be Michael George singing, refrain from swearing out loud in public.

Apologies if I caused any confusion before :scared:

Headphones on in the store, count out the correct money in the line and get out of the store asap. It's fairly straightforward.
Survived!!

They were not playing ANY Christmas songs

Though it's only ten seconds in until the unmistakable "oooooohwhoaaaaaa" Hardly enough time to escape!

I only caught less than a second but due to that rule was ousted. :(

I knew if was GM from the off though because it was announced before I could make a getaway.

I didn't have bowling yesterday so I didn't get Whammed.

And I vow, I will NOT get Whammed.

I My life was winning this until I tuned into X Factor.

Fixed and true. :sly:

Double Whamming there though - the little strange scouse rat-faced hairdresser and the Downton Abbey ad... again! I've been hit five times in as many days. Didn't stand a chance. I'm like the fat useless guy in the office at the paint ball 'bonding' day...

Too late to start playing?

I'm in Germany and they only seem to play english language Christmas music but I haven't heard it... yet.

I'm flying home for Christmas on the 19th, and there's a good chance I'll hear it on one of my many 3 in the morning 'because I'm bored' trips to Asda. But I will endeavour to avoid this abomination.

Too late to start playing?

You'd have to see what Daniel says but chances are it's too late. It just wouldn't be fair on the people who have gone so long already.

You could play yourself though, some of my friends are doing that, like a personal wham! avoidance game for single players.

Does it count if it's a rearranged version?

Survived a whole day of shopping.

Towards the end of every song playing in various stores, I would turn on my mp3 player and listen to system of a down waiting on my girlfriend to give me the thumbs up to let me know it's safe.

We spent an hour looking at engagement/wedding rings :scared:, but it didn't help that we went into a really expensive mini mall that is only jewellery stores. I.e, everything was expensive. The only things that weren't expensive were really tacky.

Passed by a middle aged couple who were window shopping and the woman said "this one's only six thousand, nine hundred pounds". I walked by and said "only" in a sarcastic manner that was louder than intended.

Didn't get a ring yet, so there are still many days of potential whamming. :scared:, but I have been successful for one month and five days so far. 👍

Good to see you made it comrade, and that you were prepared. 👍
