I remember quite awhile ago most of us took that survey for GTP and one of the questions was something like,"What do you think would make more people want to buy premium?". At the time I didn't have any ideas but I've thought of a couple myself and y'all can now use this thread to see more suggestions from people.

I have two ideas...

1. Alot of people seem to like having their sigs center aligned. Enable it for Premium members only.

2. Allow us to see rep. Not too big a deal but it's something.

well, I highly doubt they will bring back the ability to see rep, even for just members. Though i was not here when you could, i read up on older subjects and the ability to see rep just became a problem with a lot of abuse to the system, so Jordan rightfully took it away. (Just in case you didn't know already :D)

As for the center align, that has also been gone over plenty of times. Jordan just doesn't feel it should be there (I forgot the reason), but he did take it away for a reason also.

Nah. At first I hated not having signatures center aligned, but everything looks cleaner now. Keep it the way it is.

True. However, the main (and possibly only) reason it was abused was that people can see how many points you had, and people had their buddies shoot them above the 300 point mark to get the Quality Posts badge. If Jordan just allowed that you can see which posts got repped at a glance, without the total number of points and such being revealed, I think it could help members improve on their posts if they're doing something wrong (whether it's poor grammar, stupidity, etc).

I always thought a good feature would be the ability to add a SMALL sig banner. I don't think it would clutter up the forums to bad as long as you kept the size down.

Also I remember the idea of an @gtplanet.net e-mail address, I wouldn't mind having something like that.

I believe the forum software Jordan uses doesn't allow for automatically-restricted signature image sizes. Enforcing a size limit on signature images would end up being a moderator's job, and they're probably busy enough as-is.

👍

I wouldn't even use it, but it's a good idea.

The things I would like to see are...

1. Return of seeing rep, I feel that hardly anyone uses the system anymore which means the few who got the quality posts badge achieved it when 'it was the new thing' and you could see the rep now others are not getting rewarded. If people see there rep they have something to work towards and it always reminds them to then give rep in return.

I know some feel that it would mean people would be posting quality posts for the sake of gaining the badge rather than common decency but to be honest I don't think this would happen and even if it does have a slight influence is it really a major issue or a bad thing? your still going to get everyone to learn a higher standard of posting and keep the quality high.

2. Even bigger avatars for Premium members or maybe raise the file size limit to have more interesting gif's. I really do like having pictures to show your own identity and presence and seeing as we are not allowed sig images it would be good to have the picture that we do have to get a little bigger.

I was also thinking about a premium members lounge on PS3 Home but the fact that its way off (and we don't even have a normal GTP Home clubhouse yet) its one for maybe a few months from now.

What he said ^

Although I'd also like to see the new sig limits removed too - atleast centre align and size 2 fonts would be nice.

+Rep for a thoughtful look at the Rep system.

This considered posting style is what I aim for, but in the six months or so that I have been here I only know of +1 rep that I have recieved for my efforts.:grumpy: This goes some way to backing up your first point - declining use of the system.

I'd rather have people making good posts for the sake of making good posts rather than doing it for a quality posts badge. People still manage to abuse the system even when they can't see their rep. I prefer to have it this way, rather than having a bunch of 14 year olds begging for rep every chance they get.

I feel that most of the members here who deserve a badge already have it anyway.

You have received rep on 10 occasions, 6 of them this year. Its not declining, its just that the effects aren't usually visible right away.

Another idea about the sigs. Don't restrict them to only 800 characters, just 6 lines, as long as you can fit what you want within 6 lines you should be able have as many characters as you need.

That's actually a fair idea... I'm limited to the amount of links I can put in my signature due to the limit.

I agree with that.

This has been discussed beore, and there is an option in the VBulletin software for that, however Jordan has tried activating it and just won't work on this site for some reason. Personally I'd like to see what posts have been repped, not the points awarded, but just that it's been given + or - rep and so you could also read the comments that someone has kindly typed, that's all. If there was any way round the probblem that that'd be nice, but if not I'm sure we'll cope.

I'm not keen on that stuff, I've seen forums with signature banners and it makes the forums look like they're full of adverts in most cases. Personally, the avatar is enough imo.

Also I remember the idea of an @gtplanet.net e-mail address, I wouldn't mind having something like that.
That would be nice, but one problem with a lot of these ideas ie bigger avatars, more this more that ect is that it all takes server space that Jordan has to pay for. Sure 10 megabyte e-mail boxes each might not seem much, but times that by the number of premium members and it's a lot.

That's actually a fair idea... I'm limited to the amount of links I can put in my signature due to the limit.

Same here, I wanted to put links to all the competitions here at GTP in my sig and only after like 5 comps put in I got a message saying I surpassed 800 characters.

That doesn't sound like such a bad idea, as long as it's not abused. I'm sure there will be one or two guys who write some kind of essay in their sigs and clutter things up. Maybe guys who want huge sigs could ask for special permission.

Moving the character limit up a bit doesn't seem half bad. That would give us more freedom with our sigs, but again, people will reach that limit and try and push for more.

For now, the best way to avoid this is to just keep your signature small. You won't have to worry about running out of characters and it will be simpler and people will be more interested in looking at it.

1) If you buy a GTPremium annual subscription, you should get an extra month free.

2) Keep avatar sizes the same in pixels, but boost the file size accepted.

3) Four times a year have some sort of drawing for GTPremium members only. The winner of the drawing is given a coupon for 1 free item from the GTPlanet store.

Just a few ideas.

I wasn't asking - honest.

More seriously though, that seems about right. My gut feeling was that I should be about into double figures by now, and it is also about equal to the amount of Rep that I've spread around. I guess the system is working just fine, even if it is somewhat hidden from view.

That's the best suggestion I've seen yet, and the ONLY one in this thread that would tempt me.

I can understand why many of you want to see changes to features such as avatars, signatures, and reputation, but please try to think "outside the box" when coming up with ideas. :) Existing limitations and requirements have been carefully chosen, and changing them for a group of the most active users would be counterintuitive. Nevertheless, keep brainstorming. Periodic contests and email addresses (addresses, not accounts) are very likely in the future!

Uhh... english please?

It would be cool to let you Center your sigs and give you a 500 character limit or something. :)

It is english...

counterintuitive
adjective
contrary to what common sense would suggest

The ability to center my sig, put more text and/or images in it and change change font sizes would have no influence at all on my decision to go premium, nor would bigger/flashier/whatever avatars. I'm perfectly happy with my current sig and avatar ;)

What would influence me greatly to go premium, however, is an assurance that those annoying popups when I first connect, before I even get a chance to log in would go away.

Actually I had decided to go premium (lifetime membership even) back in July last year but I sat on my duff too long and by the time I was getting around to doing it Jordan was no longer accepting payment by check; I neither have nor wish to have a PayPal account which is the only way to pay for premium now.

I know it is english. :grumpy: I was saying that that was king of a big word. Yet someone has to be Mr. Dictionary again.
I'm sorry, but "counterintuitive" really isn't all that hard of a word. And even if it is, you could always go to google, type in the word, and find the definition.

Anyway, back on-topic...

  • Xbox Live Gamertags in profiles – It helps, and it won't hurt. The core group of members here have both Xboxes and PS3s, so it'd be just as helpful as the PSN ID fill-in.
  • Discount in GTP Store items – Call me cheap and selfish, but I don't want to pay $20 for a generic shirt with the only unique thing being the GTP logo. If it were $12, maybe $15, I'd buy one.
  • File Hosting without making a post – RapidShare is too unreliable (and annoying). What if I want to share some cool icons I found scattered over the internet? Or what if I wanted to back up a few important files? Of course, there'd be limits, but anything would be better than the pathetic 100kb that's available.
  • Blogs, Personal Minisites based on GTPlanet – I would love a duck.gtplanet.net. Be able to indirectly commentate on various things going on at GTP, or just have a personal blog talking about stuff going on wherever.
I'll probably think of more later...

Nice idea, but I’d expect the price of Premium to go up if something like that was implemented. It’d be a reasonably expensive feature to set-up.

How about once a year the premium members get a small discount from the GTP store. It doesn't have to be big, even 10-20%, it would just be nice to get a small amount off.

Is there a place where you could just donate to Jordan? If not, there definitely should be. Though i doubt very many people would just donate, you'd have a few choice people who would. If i had the money, I'd definitely donate money to this great site, but i have other things i need to save for...... PS3, car, etc....

How about an instant messager area type of deal. I think there's something like that on myspace I saw once, myspace instant messager. Why not one for GTP?
