So it's something to do with BC kid, which I played on the Amiga although the game was called bonk on some other system.

Am I right?

It was Bonk (at least in the US) on the TurboGrafx 16 (which was called the PC Engine in Europe and Japan). As mentioned before, it's a sequel of sorts....
