That's pretty heavy. I wouldn't want to lug that round on stage.

BTW a mate of mine is after a semi-acoustic. He's looking at Ibanez's and the stuff and being a bit single minded about it. Any suggestions of a good semi-acoustic that's reasonably cheap?

What's reasonably cheap for one is not necessarily reasonably cheap for the next guy. How much is he wiling to spend on a new semi-acoustic (bass?) ,what's his budget?

;) No problems... Well not quite sure what my US dollar suggestions are going to do for ya, and to be quite honest, I know very little of Guitars. Sounds like a questions for Gil, our resident "tone" man. :)

Okay cheers anywayz.
I have to say holy mother of utter poo poo Pako!!!!!!
I've just listened to your "little" track of conklin_noodle.mp3 on your new bass and I have to say you're one of the meanest base players I've ever really heard!! How many years have you been palying?? You're bloody amazing!!!!
👍 :) .
The bass sounds fantastic as well. I really can't see how your misses can hate that new bass of yours.

Wow, you a waaaay to kind with your words of flattery.:O Thanks man!

Anyhow, yeah...still learning to get 'my' tone out of it, but yeah, it's a really nice instrume

I've been playing Electric Bass since about '91, really only serious and playing with gigging bands since about '96 I guess. It's almost depreasing how much more stuff there's to learn. If I dedicated my entire life to playing bass, I still wouldn't be able to learn it all (IMO)... Music is awesome for sure, I love it!

I played Double-Bass (upright bass) for six years in school before I ever touch a Electric Bass Guitar. So I had classical instruction in regards to the upright bass. The electric I had no formal training in with exception to a single lesson I had, the guy taught me "Touch" by ZZ Top. :)

In one lesson. That's not bad.:)
I started off from learning from a book then I gave up after a month and just taught myself and learned stuff from learning songs. And so far it seems to of worked pretty well for the 3 years so far :) .
If anything, from my mates who've had lessons, it seems like lessons more put people off learning the instrument then helping, unless you're really into it.

For the money...
I would probably check out Carvin. (www.carvin.com) I have gained a huge respect for their guitars because I have only seen one used one in my "hunts". It was a lower end Strat-style. Sounded very nice thru every amp I hooked it up to.
I've seen many people play thru Carvin gear but that was the only one I've ever seen hanging in a store.
I figure that any guitar that can manage to stay in someone's collection, while other guitars get sold/traded has to be very good, Guitar players being the fickle people they are. I looked at their site just a minute ago and they have "in stock" guitars starting just under $800.
The Cobalt Guitars are even more affordable. They start just under $400.

I also have a soft spot for the Seagull line (www.lasido.com). The straight acoustic goes for around $500 (300-350 pounds, I believe). The acoustic electric goes for $750 and up. They are solid wood construction with the exception of the sides, I believe, and they have an awesome tone. Seagull will be the "next big thing" in guitars very soon. I predict the prices will eventually shoot up on them like they did on Tacoma Guitars.

If your friend wants 2 guitars in one, Fender makes a Telecaster, The Nashville Tele plus, that also has a Fishman acoustic pickup that sounds credible enough to pass for the real thing to everyone but picky guitar players. Check out www.musiciansfriend.com. I believe that they are going for about $650-700.

I have nothing against the Ibanez. But you have to get out of the low-end lines to get a really good sound. They sound too "brash" for me. I like a really warm tone. Another option is Epiphone. The PR-5 and the J-18CE are not too expensive and sound very sweet. The J-18 is a good copy of the Gibson of the same model.
Hope that helps a bit.

Cheers Gil, that helped a bit. I'll try and put some of your suggstions to him. To be honest I'm too tired now to go wading through that lot, although I had a look at the The Nashville Tele plus and Seagull line and was very impressed. I'm after a semi-acoustic at the mo as well and I really like some of th eSeagulls I saw. I'll have aproper look tomorrow. Thanks.👍

No probs. Glad to do it. I can talk guitars all day long.

There must be a hell of a lot of love in that room Pako.
Well Gil I gave my mate your advice and he pretended to pay attention, and even though he asked for my opinion I think he had something in mind from the beggining. So I think he's going with the Ibanez:confused: . O well his money. Though he's also lookng at a Peavey X-type  . Thats sooo the guitar I want at the moment. I just love the syling particualrly on it. I'd probably change the pic-ups but ooo sooo nice!!!
Also I walked into my local freindly meighbourhood guitar shop the other day and found a left handed Martin for £700. It's a double O I think. I'm severly looking into it as I'm interested in semi-acoustics and just acoustics at the moment.:)

Well I finally managed to get some pics of my guitar in it's natural environment. So here ya go, nothing special, but I love it :) .

Your guitar is entirely backwards. You have to be a lefty, or you got the virtual negative flipped over:lol:

I've been trying off and on to teach my left handed child to play. I thought it would be relatively easy, as I would be a mirror image to him. Either my teaching methods are faulty, or my guy isn't practicing enough or he is destined to be a clarinet player.

Hey, don't rip on the clarinet I play that too. It may not be the most manly instrument, but the sax and guitar make up for it.
Whose rippin' on Clarinet. I used to play one too!
Besides, As a former ACCORDION player (no Urkel references please!!) I have nothing to say about anybody's "cool points."

Rather you than me.
Also I used to play the clarinet (still slightly do - ska styley) as well. I think it's the instrument all the best guitarists start off on first ;) :p .
On another note Gil: me old man thought it'd be easy for me to learn the guitar, with him being right handed and me being "special" (a lefty). Not to be. I've just taught myself over the past couple of years and seemed to work out okay.
Although finding a lefty guitar is like trying to find rocking horse ****. It just doesn't exist. I had to get my strat from a warehouse from Denmark, as it was the only lefty Fender available (under certain circumstances to my purchase of it) at the time.:)

Around here, it's a matter of getting lucky and finding one, or ordering one from Musician's Friend.
I thnk a lot of leftys learn to play right handed for that very reason.

Yeah, I've got a mate who's a lefty and as you said he's learnt to play right handed. It's a lot simplier (to a certain extent) and you get a better aray of makes and models to you. Also it's cheaper. I found when ordering my Fender, I wanted a particular model (forgot what model - three years ago) , and I couldn't get it for two somple reason:
1)It would take them years to make it (they usually make particular lefty's (apart from the most common guitars like black and white strats) to order.).
2)It also would of increased the cost of it. I think I payed something like £150 for mine (i got a heavey discount as my dads best mate works for Fender), where as i would of been able to get a right handed strat for £100. May not be much, but is enough and I could of got a BOSS distortian for exable with the money I could of saved.

Edit:BTW where's Pako, I haven't seen him around for years.

That's cool man! Ken (guitarist in my band) is also a lefty. That makes it nice when "jammer's" come up and want to play....so far they've all be right handed. Lucky for "us" that's the norm. :)

Lefty's are also easier to teach and to be taught from because of the mirror like affect when facing a right handed guitarist.

~Peace

I thought you'd died or something (nicest possible way meant). I haven't seen you around here for some time.
Yeah as I mentioned that's what my dad thought when he tried to teach me, but he just got angry (not a good teacher, has a temper, which is about as short as a really short piece of string). But also as you said it's tre cool when you come to like jam with the bssist in a song or something.

here ya go. i run a bc rich warlock with a paf pro in the bridge and a jackson drx with a bill lawrence xl-500l. my amp is a peavy 5150, my dream amp. it does absolutely everything i want it to.
