Oh... I thought this was a beta for the whole public no one special... Guess I got that confused.
You still have a chance to play if you own or buy Crackdown. However it must be a copy that sais "Halo 3 beta included".
The beta should be available within 10 minutes EST. :)

Nothing through Crackdown yet......

Edit: Bungie's forum has utterly exploded full of complaining people.

Edit2: There is a current issue with the Crackdown:

Crackdown Delay: We Know!
Posted by Frankie at 5/16/2007 5:22 AM PDT

Folks are reporting problems downloading the Halo 3 Beta via Crackdown this morning. We have alerted the appropriate Live authorities and they are taking care of the problem as we speak. More news as it comes in.

With any luck this will be a short delay. People enetering the Beta through other methods - Friends and Family, Rule of Three and so on, are unaffected.

Typical...

Any new dl takes time before it works and especially something as huge as this. The server will be pounded and most people wont be able to get on for several hours. We will all just have to be patient. I leave in about 6 hours from work so hopefully by then we can start the download.

The game is bad ass, i dont know how to explain it, its halo, but its not, I dunno, it has more feel to it, like when I throw a nade, i feel like it has some weight to it, the rockets fire differently, subtle tiny changes that make it look and feel so much better imo.

Congrats on getting in. Do you have any pics or any way to get video to tease the rest of us that cant play??? Gametrailers has quite a few videos too of the beta in action. http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2606

well I messed with recording videos but It records them as data in the game not an actual video file so you'd have to watch it on your xbox. What I can do is I'll try playing a match (which will mostly be me dying BTW) and then record it to my xbox, then through my video card record it, I cant record live cause there is lag on the TV card input.

Halo 3 beta available now!!!
Go to system tab then memory
Hit "Y" then XX LB RB XX Do maintenance then restart Crackdown and you can download the Halo 3 beta right now!!!!

Or just let Crackdown update itsself like I did. Downloading the beta now.

Well everyone the beta is absolutely awesome!!!! Way better than Halo 2 and a lot better than I expected. Its a completely different game that Halo 2 and extremely fun. Now you can even save videos from your favorite rounds. I just did my first rumble pit match and had the highest score and a very very good match. It was snipers/shotguns. Then when it finished I saved the game video which was around 1 mb then viewed it after the game and even sent it to a few friends. 👍 I am not sure but maybe the video even downloads somewhere for others to view online??? I am not sure but its 14 minutes long. Also for a beta this game looks very good!! The water even responds when you shoot or walk into it.
You can check my stats on Bungie.net I tried to post the link there but it wont allow me to do that if I put the link in here. We had this problem before too.
The best part is that so far I havent heard anyone swearing or being rude at all! :)
Here is a screen shot from that game.

Man.

I'd LOVE to play this, but I want to buy Rainbow 6: Vegas too, and I think that'd be the better investment since I'm not particularly interested in Crackdown.

Still though... looks like fun.

Dang I wish you would have replied sooner letting me know you wanted RSV. I just traded it in a couple days ago. I would have gladly sold it to you for cheap. RSV is a great game definetly worth buying if you have never played it.

Oh I envy all that have the beta. I had a chance to play it at a friends house with other friends but I'm far too busy today :(

The Beta is excelent. Despite a few hiccups, the system works out well. I was a bit worried about the control setup at first, but its working out better now. Furthermore, I'm loving the way you can hook up with people you liked playing with after a game is finished. Its pretty sweet...

Yeah It's pretty neat. I played last night and there were about 4 of us that stayed together. Everyone seemed pretty even so it was good fun sticking together for the next game.

I haven't been in a game where the veto has won yet. What happens then? Can someone propose a change or does it just generate another game type automatically?

The game changes automatically. We had a veto on Snowbound and ended up at Valhalla. It was pretty smooth, but I was surprised that it happened so quick.

...Playing with a friend, thus far, seems to be the best part on the Beta. I've been able to hook up with an old friend from High School (both of us are pretty big into Halo), and it has been a lot of fun. I'm just wishing there were MORE people doing it. Sometimes the wait for a game can be a bit too long...

I can tell the ranking system would start to frustrate me. You think you've done so well with getting the most kills on your team, only to drop from level 3 to 2, due to (I think) getting killed by much lower ranked players. I just don't work that way...

In my mind, a point system would be good. You get very little points for killing a lower ranked player, and more if you kill higher than your own. Sure, it may take ages to level up, but I prefer it this way...

Other than that, pretty decent, stable beta. Looks pretty good (but not stunning), plays quite well (need aim to be set to "high" sensitivity really), and there is no lag, which is great. But nothing "urges" me to continue playing it though. :indiff:

I'm uncertain of how the ranking system works specifically, but I don't really have any qualms with it thus far. My friend and I, both slightly above average players at best, have been stuck at the four-rank for some time. Personally speaking, it can be frustrating, but overall, if you aren't winning (no matter how many kills you get), you shouldn't be leveling up...

Yep, I agree. I was level one on my first ever game game, killed only 3 people, and rose to level 3!

Well, some people dug into the source code for the beta, and among other things (like minor weapons) they found a message saying that 4-player co-op is supported. Should be interesting...

I finally got to try it out yesterday only 4 rounds though, and I was playing split screen on a small TV so it didn't give me a good view on the game as a whole. I could barely ever see where my aimer was don't know if it was the TV's setting or the Beta. As well, I can't get over the radar I hate it. That's the only things I disliked about the very short time I had with the beta everything else was fine. Never got to use any of the new weapons though. So when it comes out i'm sure i'll get used to both the aimer and the new radar. I feel the TV played a big part in it. I usually have a rather terrible time playing split screen on a small tv. Even on a 60+inch tv playing with 4 friends it's terrible. I just like having a screen to myself. But all these were opinions based on 4 rounds playing on a less then optimal TV screen.

Now that...will be kickass.

...And I found some screens of a bunch of new settings that are supposed to be in the final game.

What are the chances there's a crackdown with a beta code still on the shelves in my local Best Buy?
