Hey boozy - sorry I missed this question; I just haven't been paying attention! :dunce:

I wasn't referring to the notion of action shots being made HDR - my recent work on a Zonda in my gallery is, I think, evidence that I don't feel too strongly about that particular matter. :)

It's definitely not about realism in subject matter - what I meant was more realism in the processing. Some of the images in this thread seriously hurt my brain just looking at them... :ouch: Now, certainly it's the photographer's prerogative to make their HDR seriously intense - but my personal preference is for a slightly more realistic tone-mapping.

That's all I meant by the comment! :)

I see that now as I re-read your post, I think I was picking up on something that someone else had said about not being able to do action shots in real life and running away with that train of thought. Either way, I always love your shots, but it's interesting to see other interpretations of HDR as well; I think the rule with creating artwork is that there are no rules, of course that's not to say that everyone (or anyone) will like what's produced. I can understand what you mean by them hurting your head though :)

I was listening to Weekend Confirmed yesterday and shot 40+ HDR photos… a lot didn't really work out. I put a bunch on my blog here. Here's my 3 favourites…

Awesome photos in here. Here's my first attempt at a HDR photo, I think it came out ok!

Hey guys. Been looking at this thread for ages now and I have to say that most of you have some amazing images. Anyways I got onto photo mode last night and decided to give this HDR stuff a try. Now I know its not amazing but i'd like to develop my skills in this area of photography, so constructive criticism would be greatful. Thanks. :)

EDIT: I used photomatix pro for this image.

Also for the people giving me constructive criticism, just thought i'd let you know that I do have Photoshop cs5 at my disposal. Thanks again :)

That Zonda's looking nice, but it looks a little cartoony. Not much shine (even though it is mostly carbon fiber). Play with the settings a little more to reduce the matte look. Now I'm not saying my pictures are any better, but here's my latest attempt. I just consider this "decent" like most of mine:

Cheers for the tip man ill try some more later on and post them up. I know get what you mean about the cartoon look comparing it to your image. Nice photo by the way.:)

That SP1 looks incredible. But I'm not really liking the composition. A bit boring to me. But that's just my taste.

Some of these shots are incredible! :drool: So much so, I decided to have an attempt myself. However, it very much failed, and I'm not sure why, I followed a baisic guide on the internet, perhaps it was too basic.

Poor show.

Back again hehe. Well I have been fiddling with the settings like RazzlDazzle recommended me to do to try and get more "shine" to my image. I'm not that great at getting the desired effects but I have tried and I guess that is part of the practice of HDR photography. Please more constructive criticism would be great.:) Thanks. Anyways heres my photo:

Like I said, the picture still looks good. I'm not that great with HDR imagery either so I can't help you out much, but with the new picture it looks like your brightness/exposure is a little too high. I liked the original better.

@SuperVeloce
You probably didn't do anything wrong, just make the settings a bit more intense. The saturation, especially. HDR imagery isn't entirely getting the picture to look more realistic. Just play with the settings more.

@Gamesta666
Same as I just told SuperVeloce, just play with the settings and find what looks better.

@shhiny48
I don't like the composition either. I'm definitely gonna post more with the SP1 but in better locations.

Well I have tried to improve my last image, turning the exposure down slightly. Looks better i think than my first 2 attempts. Anyways this is my last try on this photograph. Thanks for all the constructive criticism.:)

Much better. Nice job.

The CF on the Zonda R does have a matte look, and isn't very shiny.

Much better. Nice job.

You complained about the cartoony look in the original(which wasn't really cartoony) yet you love the super bright, cartoony feel of the last edit?

First attempts, and while not a photographer, I'm LOVING this feature of the game. I use a Linux distribution so used Hugin for the HDR stitching, and GIMP is the photo editing tool.

My first HDR attempt, please tell me what you think.

(Ferrari 430 Scuderia, with some white/blue shifting paint job (forgot the name =P) and silver chrome rims.
