welp, looks like I've got my job back, and a 4Runner to go with it

can the toyo guys, and others in the know, let me know of the weak and vulnerable points to look for, and what to tweak later?

the info so far : 90 4runner, 3VZE engine (i was POSITIVE it was gonna have the 3SFE, for some reason :ouch: ) "red"

I just noticed this, and I'll look up any Special Service Campaigns for your 1990 4Runner when I'm back at work (you'll have to wait until Thursday, though). I can't offer any other advice since:

1) I've never owned or driven one.
2) I've never repaired one in my shop.
3) I work for Lexus, but can look up Toyota/Scion stuff anyhow...but only at work.

There's got to be a Toyota truck forum somewhere around the internet; boards exist for just about any car in production.

Pupik: i'd rather not try ANOTHEr forum. i don't know who's suggestion it was for S10forums...but I got absolutely NO response at all. besides, I trust this board more. you can get tips from all over the world

Ok, finally found a moment at work to look this up:

SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN – P01 (A/C EXPANSION VALVE)
* VEHICLE WARRANTY NO LONGER IN EFFECT: CUSTOMER MUST PAY.

Under certain conditions, particularly in high temperature and high humidity areas, the air conditioning expansion valve in certain Toyota models may malfunction. As a result, there will be a gradual reduction of air conditioning efficiency and eventual loss of cooling capability.

Toyota will initiate a Special Service Campaign to inspect the air conditioning system, inject an anti–corrosion lubricant (Toyota ND6 AC Refrigerant Oil Charge) or, if necessary, replace the air conditioning expansion valve on certain 1989 – 1993 Toyota models.

3VZ–E Head Gasket Special Service Campaign (V06)
With the introduction of the new Special Service Campaign(V06), owners of late production 1990, all 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1994 up to early production 1995 (1/90 to 10/94 production date) Toyota Compact Pick–up Truck, 4Runner and T100 equipped with 3VZ–E V6 engines who have not received any head gasket repairs from a Toyota dealer since October 1, 1996 will be notified to contact a Toyota dealer for head gaskets replacement. Vehicle owners who have previously paid for head gasket replacement will be instructed to call the National Customer Relations Department at 1–800–404–7636 to obtain further directions.

Owners of the involved vehicles under the Special Policy Adjustment Program will be provided a dated warranty extension document to keep with their vehicle owner’s guide. If a head gasket fails within the 8 years or 100,000 miles extended warranty period, or within 12 months from the date of the owner notification letter, they can contact any Toyota dealer to have both head gaskets replaced at no cost to them.

* Again, this doesn't apply since your truck is over 8 years old.

okay...that explains why the previous owner said there was no air.

head gaskets? sonofa...I'll ask at the Toyo/Scion dealer when i go for a couple double ender bulbs. parts store told me that it's a dealer only peice.
