I believe that this was also in GT4, but I never thought to ask.
Why are some car's specs hidden before you buy it?
For example the Citroen race car, it's specs are just dotted lines?
Is there any reason for this?

Because it shows it's advertised specs, not its actual specs. You can only see actual specs in your garage. Cars that are not production vehicles will have -- in there specs (mostly).

So why not always show the real specs?

Probably because the specs aren't finalized yet? Concept cars, for example.

Or they just want to keep it a secret. :)

What do you mean?
It's a game, why have the garage specs and the dealership specs different from each other?
There's no point.
And for concept cars, you could just back up your data, buy the car etc. to find out the specs.

Because it's not a production vehicle there are no advertised or confirmed specs. In real life concept cars are usually just hopes and dreams but of course if you managed to get your hands on a running version you'd take it straight to a dyno and find out its power output, etc.

Just think of it as D/UCD/OCD don't know, but those guys in the yellow hats work it out for you as soon as it arrives in the garage.

Yeah, but this is a game.
Wastes time doing this too.
Say for example you wanted to compare cars BEFORE you bought them, to see which one is best for a race.

Also a lot of the 90s japanese cars are rated at I think 374HP but once you buy them some of them are quite a bit more (R34 comes to mind).
It's because during that time I think the manufacturers had some sort of agreement about a maximum advertised hp rating (or something like that).

One of the prototypes' description says the manufacturer did not reveal the engine specs. So naturally it is not there.

I just think PD would like to keep it a secret, but had to make a compromise because without numbers, the tuning shop is pointless.

It was like this in GT4, but at least we got the descriptions back!!

I'd rather they gave the game values stick a * next to them if they differ from advertised to keep the companies happy.

* for game purposes only, may not be accurate to the actual vehicle.

Some of the data never shows up. The Furai for example, can't be used in the MR event because the drivetrain info simply isn't in the game. It's incredibly obnoxious.

Some of it I assume, as others have said, is to reflect the "advertised vs real" numbers that often happen in real life. Though being a game, it seems like the real numbers should be displayed and the fun fact advertised numbers belong in the description.

What has always bugged me about this, is that the info is there. The physics engine is using those numbers to calculate how the car move, so just give them to us. Drive type being the stupidest to withhold.

If the info is there and being used, give it to us please.

The drivetrain being another that is stupid to withhold.
None of the information should be withheld because in real life these specs can very easily be found out.
False advertising?
Withholding specs isn't going to increase any sales.
