It looks good. I'm not a big fan of hot hatches but it seems to be a nice car.

FWD and 300hp+ still does sound strange IMO. Nothing wrong with FWD because it's safer to drive but I think that a 300hp+ car needs AWD or RWD.

Ford managed just fine with the Mk2 Focus RS at 300hp and with the 345hp RS500. I think can manage just as well with the new Civic.

Looks like a baby veneno
I'm liking the front end though

Great to see FWD breaking 8min barrier

Yep, I know it's not a problem having more than 300hp and FWD but as I said, it sounds strange. All powerful cars use to have RWD in the past.

By that I think you mean "barely allowed people to stay alive", I drove one of these once, great car but huuuuge torque-steer.

In fact I thought if that very car when I saw Clarkson talking about the Golf GTi's trick-diff, if Ford have done something like that with the new RS then they'll have improved it greatly. Especially when leaving roundabouts in the rain. Parp.

I don't mind the look but everyones gone that direction. Vauxhaul, Renault, VX, even Audi, bmw and Mercades have gone, body kit, black wheels and spoiler (that has negative effect on FWD fars). Ford has been conservative with the ST but it not the hottest hatch. Even the mk2 Rs is more expensive, more powerful and better looking. All that aside, Type R may take the HH crown for a little bit but Ford will come swinging next year.

When is a hatch considered 'hot'? When it looks good or when it performs good?

In my opinion, the new Type R comes second in the hot hatch world to the Golf GTI.

So the slower, more tame, heavier and smaller one is king? 300 horses with wacky styling is hottest, bit like when people said the DS3 was a competitor with its crazy looks but it was to slow.

Im not a honda fan, owned an ST225 before and prefer the 3 MPS mk2 but i will anmit the Type R now being turbo'd changes things.

^Them taillights. Car definitely looks like a worthy successor.

On another note, I'm still a little sad that we're not getting another FD Civic Type R. But the new Civic sedans aren't necessarily the prettiest of Civics, so it's okay I guess. The FD2R will always be the best.

I just prefer it as an all round hot hatch, nothing more than personal preference.

Love the new Civic Type-R  but not so sure about that rear spolier :yuck:

Still gutted the CR-Z Superrcharged Mugen version never made it to production, hopefully the CR-Z line will get an update too.

The spoiler on the street car, from the looks of it, is more to prevent flow separation over the rear glass. It looks set to feed air to the little lip behind the hatch... possibly to ensure a good wake and less turbulence.

If all they were aiming for was "vaguely sporty", they should have gone with a roof extension spoiler or one hanging off the end of the car. As it is, it looks functional, but not for downforce.

Looks like the biggest factory ricebox I've ever seen.

I like what they did with the lights and the spoiler.

I love the look.

Shame it will be around 60k here and it will be a watered down version compared to what the UK chaps get.

The harsher enviroment here is Oz is why we get the watered down version....you will never see 40 degs days in the uk lol
Bloodly lovely car...about time we see some great power FWD cars

Well we get little muscle and when we do, steering wheel is on the wrong side. Personal imports through dealers is surly possible? Cuts down on shipping if the just add it to the mass amount there getting.
I do feel for the east and west sided not getting the hottest of hatches, they are fun.

I'm looking forward to it. I havent been interested in Honda since they left F1 and owning an Accord, EP3 Si and Odyssey. Now that this car will be coming to Oz and Honda in F1 next year, I'll wait and see before trading in the Megane RS Trophy+(but that new 2-Series is looking mighty fine).

Says who, car companies for a while now have been aiming FWD 4cyl turbos toward 300hp, and the SRT-4 was underrated on power by the factory and that is a decade old system so...

It was 260hp from the factory but more like 285 or something if I remember correctly, we had one in the family it was a great car I think. Also you have the GM cars that have been aiming at that number or have hit it and are FF (refer to chevy and buick).

Ford has been looking to do that and has it close with the Focus.

Seems rude considering some of the questionable aftermarket crap Domestic companies have thrown on cars. Also there are plenty of high end models dressed up now days, not sure how this is a ricebox...

The Rs and Rs500 are 300hp+ and even with factory retunes upping that again by 20-25hp.

Not sure what the first factory car was that car with brash bodykit, flares, spoilers, black/gunmetal wheels (standard has always been alloy, until 5 years ago)
Original Focus RS wasn't close to ricer. Slightly with additions of racing paraphernalia, Clio V6 was wide for the Rear V6, Astra GSi looked boring and the VXR came around 06, all old Golf GTis were one glance cars and Even the R32 looked like a stock 1.8tdi, The 206 GTi was slow and had a big chin and anything from japan looked ordinary.

Pretty much all of the current hot hatches (except the focus ST250 because its not the hottest ford) has Dark Sports Wheels, Fake Spoilers, loads of vents, body kit, and a few gauges inside.

Where you live yes...look at where I live and you'll understand why I posted in the style I did.

Once again talking about a region that someone like Slash will understand since that's where me and him live. I understand where you're coming from and I agree but in the states Domestics usually have high performance versions that have body kits (e.g. Caliber SRT-4 vs plain Caliber)
