Horns...why?

I use my horn quite a lot... when I inadvertantly press the stick while steering!

I presume that the number refers to the car in the overall car list.

I'd much rather have more Paint Chips than stupid Horns evertime your garage increases by a certain amount.

I wonder who at PD thought this would be a good idea... they were seriously wrong!

there's a couple of horns that are fun, i think you can surprise someone online with them

i recorded them, sorry for the horrible quality, it was this or nothing, sadly i can't remember the number of the horns

The horns were added because with the removal of GT4's nitro there was a vacuum of stupid in the GT franchise, and nature abhors a vacuum. ;)

HN7
It's the most useless part of the game.

I didn't even map a button to this function.
Useful though would have been integrated turn and emergency signals, as one could use them on the ring or on track days, to signal following traffic.

Useful would be, to realistically implement light switches for the cars.
Am I the only one, seriously bothered by the many cockpits, which are completely unreadable with the implemented shadow effects in day light?

What do you do in your real car in such a situation? Switch the light on! Now all the dials are lit and readability is back.

Horns? For what?

This reminds me of the bar scene with Larry and Budd in the Tarantino movie "Kill Bill".

Putting horns in the game is bizarre imho. The effort of the implementation could have been better applied...surely!? Strikes me as one of the Japanese eccentricities included in the game. Harmless, but superfluous.

Will never use any of them, and i can see the "comedy" horns being a great greifer tool online, need to pass someone? Honk honk honk honk..... No thanks

Obviously someone got confused and was working on horns rather than brake upgrades, and by the time someone noticed it was too late, so they just let the guy do his horn thing.

Those are probably from a Ferrari or Lamborghini, as those cars have air horns in real life.

To everyone crying about the quality of the sounds in this game...

1. Get a decent surround reciever and speakers.
2. Configure it properly.
3. Connect your ps3 and reciever via hdmi or toslink and Run ps3 audio setup
4. Set GT's audio settings to "LARGE THEATER". Do not use "livingroom"
5. Turn it up!

When you have done these things you can hear EVERYTHING.
The engine rumble, the transmission whine, the wind, and yes the subtle differences in tone of the many unique horns are all clearly discernible.

If you are stuck with the tiny speakers in your tv I'm sorry for you.

Yep..what he said. The ridiculous tranny whine comes through in brilliant 5.1 sound to drown every engine nuance, and the off-center engine sound in cockpit view is unmistakably crystal clear coming from the far right side of your theatre room. ;)

As for the horns, it makes no sense at all. At least in Dirt 2 you can get a laugh as everyone hits their goofy sounding horns while waiting for the green flag to fall. :)

I forgot I even had them (and I don't have a button assigned to them)...I've probably got 100 horns saved up in my items list...

But if one of them was a hockey-style foghorn, that might be useful...

That would be horn #99 in honor of "the great one"

Can you imagine the scene that day at PD in the board room? "Soooooooo, any last minute ideas today?" "Uhhhh, yes Boss, it came to me in a dream last night that we should have horns in the game!" "Hmmmmm, YESSIR, I like it!" "You six guys working the AI, drop what you are doing and get those horns in there! Those two fellers can handle that silly AI stuff..." YES BOSS!!!!"

Would've been a great addition to the game if there was more variety,
where's my ice cream van horn?.

Not enough button to map it to G25 as is, not gonna waste one for horn...

Funny I noticed I have one when I was using controller over the break when I was away from the G25 setup...when using the analog stick..

All you complainers are being waaay too serious about this ... game! It is just a little bit of silly fun, and why not.

Arguably the headlight blinking is way more useful and realistic for racing. So use that and forget about both horns and complaining.

Actually it is a nice touch of realism that you can not install horns on race cars.

I just want a ferry horn to bellow across the track. And of course noone else can have it, now that would be mayhem.

PS. And I want PD to fix G27 buttons so I can actually use it

Some answers!
Better with horns, than without horns.
Some are quiet some loud.
Some race cars dont have horns at all, so you canot add them in GT nether.

But last of all, do any of you use them? If so, what for? To add your own touch? Or to give a big hefty Dodge Ram and high-pitched Mini Metro of a car horn?
I remember using them in the AMG challenges when a slower car blocked my way. I'm not sure but seemed like the AI slowed down and went to a side to make room. Thought the flashing lights did work in the same way.

Anyone noticed this?

Ok cool :) friend req sent. It'll be interesting to see if they're in a diff. category to paint.

OK, it looks like paint and horns are separate.
I sent 5 paints to a friend, then sent 3 horns to you (yaksox).
I got success messages on all the transactions.
Can you verify that you got 3 horns from me, so I know for sure that both the paint and the horns were delivered?

Thanks 👍

I like horns, they're fun. It's fun beeping behind some Ai that won't move out of your way, I crack up sometimes playing the agro guy on the horn. Yes they are useless, yes it's unrealisitic to use a horn during an actual race, but to me it just adds to the realism in that YES, I am driving an actual car. And like I said they're just fun.

To all the people hating horns in this thread, you know you turn them OFF, right?

Another thought. If PD hadn't put horns in the game by now, all you guys would be complaining "why can't we have a horn?"

I use my horn all the time, usually as I panic-brake into a corner because I missed my braking point, or to avoid an AI car randomly braking in the middle of a straight.

Yes, I'm backwards - I've always used left stick for accel/brake, right stick for steering - harkening back to my distant days with RC cars (though it ruined GT4 for me, where you couldn't un-assign throttle/brake from the right stick, inputs on which actually overrode inputs on the assigned left stick).

But yeah, the whole horn thing is kind of dumb. Even worse than the limited paint chips. I have no interest in customizing the horn on my cars.
