Playing with the idea of making diorama's to display my hot wheels (not all of them at once). Not planning on modifying the car's themselves, so I'm wondering how detailed I should go with the environments.

You need something, but IMO, if you want your diorama to stand out, it shouldn't look like "a diorama", to put it figuratively.

Aaaah... i think i will not do a custom anymore. I lack materials and tools for it. lol.

I hear what you're saying.. getting all the materials and tools required can be a pain, but as others have shown, some nice customs can be achieved with just a few Sharpie's/paint pens.



'240Z' update.... Aarrgghh!!!! Managed to break off that delicate looking B-pillar by holding the roof section too firmly whilst sanding... Putty can be beautiful to work with, but at times requires the patience of a saint! Anyway iv'e decided to not bother with the putty B-pillar, and will instead just bolster up the B-pillar plastic window section with some modelers plastic.

... that was exactly how i felt. Though i'm not going to dwell on investing/wasting 24hrs (putty curing time).

Wheels resemble the real thing more accurately... a hybrid between a 10SP and J5 would be even more accurate.

Too bad it comes with large rear wheels which look like crap no matter what.

The SP10 wheels looks just like the Super Snake's real wheels, but yeah, those big wheels really kill the look of the car.

I managed to get the Type R apart but i do not have any paint stripper.

If i just spray a half dozen layers of paint will it be OK or will it peel?

And should i keep trying to drill to make the hole deeper or do not risk it.

If you don't plan on using screws to hold it together, don't bother. It's fine the way it is. And when you need to put the car back together, just use some super glue or something.

As far as painting over the paint that's already on it....I wouldn't do it. Especially since it's bright green, you'd have a hard time getting the edges to not show through.

It can come off easily because the factory paint surface is too smooth. I did this with my Stealth cars and they chip super easily.

Grayfox, if you can't strip the paint, at least rough up the surface with low grit sandpaper.

I think that the best base for painting a zamac car is the original paint ,I don’t know how they paint them but the paint is very resistant, the only problem I can see with this is that sometimes the final result is a thick layer of paint; just as AOS says just rough the original paint with a 1200 sand paper, and then apply a layer of primer this will prevent the green edges appear after painting the final color layer

If you choose to peal the paint, you must use a primer layer after applying any color to the body, this will prevent the paint cracks and peel in the future

oooooh crap, that looks seriously cool. It's amazing how much the car changes making the rear fender more or less the same size as the front fender. Also the wheels, of course. This car is taking an awesome direction. Can't wait to copy it, lol.

@ R1600. I agree, and funnily enough had already decided my yellow (10 spoke) 'Z' will be giving up it's dark tinted windows for it. 👍

Yeah I eventually have plans to make a bunch of replica's from V8Supercars using the Falcon Race car. The white one comes with clear windows, and the blue one has blue windows. Going to purchase a bunch of the white ones for the customs.

The ones on the civic are clear.

Want a black tint look.

It might be possible, not 100% sure though. Maybe stick them in some black die for a few seconds?

I have Testors paint made specifically for tinting windows.
Works pretty well.

If the window is clear, just paint the interior side black. If it's coloured, you can try painting the outside in numerous thin layers. Dipping it in paint entirely might turn out better though.

That's going to be the best way to do it.

I didn't know such a paint existed.

Yup, it's simply thin paint as far as I can tell. I'd imagine you can find it wherever Testor's cans are sold.

Isn't that the point? Who gets black-tinted windows and not want it to be nearly opaque?
