Bro :D PS5Pro is close to 1000 dolars. Even if PS6 will be one gen behind it can still be expansive with today memory crisis.
I didn't realize it was releasing tomorrow 😒

Given what's been said so far, 2028 is a longshot. 2029 or 2030 is more likely. What's happening today, may or may not be an issue at that point.

Yeah, I also hope it will be delayed, but there are also plenty of rumors that it will be releasing around 2027/2028. With this info it could easily be a 1000 dolar console.

That cost could also be the reason for delay. The cost is due to lack of availability, so even if they made the decision to make it $1000, they might not be able to get the chips to manufacture it.

Personally, I am not expecting it until at least 2029 because of all the global chaos.

Remember, even the base PS5 costs more.

While it is relevant already many years ago, the higher the price for any game console or PC that is used for gaming, the more important is the comparative advantage which is mostly about graphics. Then there's the titles that we can't get on both console or PC, but while a few percent higher price is not very important for many customers it is increasingly important when the nominal amount increase above a certain threshold.
And unless PD will implement many of the features & options we ask for that is not difficult then we don't get enough & better entertainment for €1000/$1000 vs €500/$500 that many of us paid for PS5 after waiting many months for the price to be reduced after the pandemic troubles. Diminishing returns means marginal or microscopical improvement.

And Kaz & PDI did improve GT7 very much since the first year [which I didn't play any GT7 while waiting for lower PS5 prices] & we [mostly meaning apart from the paid Power Pack] got it for money that we already paid for the game!

I think it's safe to assume that precedent will be followed and GT8 will be a multi-platform release.
Precedent is a single platform release:

GT1 - PlayStation 1
GT2 - PlayStation 1
GT3 - PlayStation 2
GT Concept - PlayStation 2
GT4: Prologue - PlayStation 2

GT4 - PlayStation 2
GTHD - PlayStation 3
GT5 Prologue - PlayStation 3

GT5 - PlayStation 3
GT6 - PlayStation 3
GT Sport - PlayStation 4

The exception is GT7.

Thing is:
They know there are some people that buy a PlayStation mostly for Gran Turismo. With GT7 they had a big base of PS4s and introduced Sophy after a while so GT fans had motivation to finally switch to the PS5.

If, as many expect, GT8 will be a multi generation title, what will they do this time to get us to buy a new console?

The exception is GT7.
And all of the reasons why GT7 was an exception will almost certainly be doubly true when GT8 comes out.

For the most part, yes...

... but it was, by definition, an unprecedented situation and therefore not precedent.

...and this is my story with PlayStation, once a new version of GT came out, I changed the console. I hope I don't have to do that with GT8... but if forced... :D

I don't think the PS6 release date will have much impact on GT8's release. PD will launch the game whenever it's ready, either first on PS5 with an enhanced version later for PS6, or as a cross generation title released on both platforms simultaneously. That said, reports (KeplerL2 leaker) suggest that the PS6 hardware has already taped out, which makes a PS6 2027 launch window seem more likely.

Shouldn’t GT PSP be on that list as well?

Ya, no, not even close.

PS5 was released in 2020, during a global pandemic. That pandemic caused supply chain issues (and various supply chain issues persist or have resurfaced) so the number of PS5's in the market was subdued, leaving PS4 as a viable platform.

That pandemic also weighed on the development of GT7, likely delaying it significantly because it's time between iterations is the second largest gap in the title's history (4+ years) without the massive technological leap between GT4 and GT5 (about 5.5 years).

So, unless there is another global pandemic "all the reasons why GT7 was an exception" do not exist.

PS5 is out now. There is no release date for PS6. The franchise's 30th anniversary is next year and we are already 4.5 years into this version's life cycle. If GT8 releases for next Autumn/Christmas, it will be on par with GT5 for the longest gap between iterations.

These the last few updates indicate they are still hard at work on the underlying tech and assets of this generation. Spec IV coming. So, who is hard on a next generation GT8? No one, because there is likely no hardware to work on, and they'll need that hardware for a significant amount of time to get the game working and looking like it's worth the upgrade.

On the flip side, all the updates GT7 has gotten (the Hypercars and all the new models) would also be part of GT8, as has been the case in the past. So, you could say that they significant GT7 updates (and they are significant for a 4.5 year old game) are, indeed, the development of GT8 as well.

I don't think Sony knows what PS6 is going to be. I feel like they'll have something akin to DLSS so that next gen games look next gen, and all the current gen games get an instant boost if you play them on PS6. In any case, I think delaying GT8 until there is a PS6 is an insane idea from a business sense. You have a rabid audience that will stampede to buy GT8 and you'll finally get the stragglers off PS4.

Lumping GT8 and PS6 together makes no sense.

So you're saying you expect GT8 to be a PS5 exclusive? I actually don't think that's out of the question because I think there's basically no chance the PS6 comes out next year and even 2028 is unlikely. What I was trying to say is that GT8 will definitely not be a PS6 exclusive as lots of people seemed to think.

So you're saying you expect GT8 to be a PS5 exclusive?
Correct.

I think this article from shattered covers it best. PS6 in 2028 and looking more like 2029 everyday because of the chip shortage, and the chip shortage also puts pressure on the design.
https://shattered.io/ps6-release-date-price-leak-2026/

With what we have so far, it makes more sense to get a GT8 out for the 30th anniversary, probably with special collectibles.

Another reason are the rumors of AMD's DLSS rival.
https://www.techpowerup.com/352750/...ss-5-like-neural-rendering-coming-with-rdna-5

PS6 should have the AMD RDNA5 architecture, and looking at all the DLSS5 video floating around makes me think it would be a massive mistake to not have something similar with AMD architecture, and if so, GT9 would look incredible.

There is really no big difference in launching GT8 before 2030 & before PS6 vs keep updating & improving GT7 including with the many features & new game style [specifically the family pack & the Power Pack] or small new events. As mentioned in this thread the particular chips or software technology which might be an improvement but could also be controversial even if it looks closer to reality. And the price increase of PS6 is also an issue which PDI can forget about until PS6 launches..!!

But if GT7 improves 'too much' then we can really complain & rate bomb GT8? Unless we get the single player choices we still don't have in it's entirety.

The problem with this is that you could use the price argument two ways; someone could argue that the price for the PS6 will encourage PD to release GT8 on PS6 exclusively to increase sales, at least for a period of time. On the other hand, someone could argue that because of the price of the PS6, GT8 will have to be launched on PS5 from the get-go otherwise the sales for GT will suffer.

In my opinion, they should release it on both platforms; but I'm not saying they will though. Part of it will come down to timing,
e.g. [GT8 delays] - [PS6 delays]. I don't think we can argue one way or the other at the moment, other than that if GT8 comes to PS5 the player base will obviously benefit from it

They'll do what they have always done and release the console and GT separately. In the history of Playstation and Gran Turismo, they have never launched at the same time. Not once.

There is a life cycle to consoles, and GT fits into the mid-life to late-life cycle. It always has.

The idea is not is supported by the 32 year history of Playstaion, nor the 29 year history of GT.

Every Playstation generation has had 2 Gran Turismos, which would lead us to expect another GT on PS5. GT8 next year would start the timer on a potential GT9...let's say 4 years...that's 2031

IF, (stress IF), PS6 launches in 2028/2029, 2031 GT is that same midcycle window that we've seen on every PS so far. If the PS6 is delayed to 2030, then GT9 could see a delay to 2032.

So, if this thread were about GT9 being delayed because of PS6 delays, that's a valid discussion. But the only thing connecting PS6 to GT8 is fairy dust and misinformation.

GT8 on PS5 wouldn't be the first time PD released a title very late into the current hardware generations lifespan with the next generation coming soon. GT6 was released on PS3 when the PS4 had already been announced, and was also a game made around a major GT anniversary, so I wouldn't put it past PD to drop GT8 as a last send off for the PS5.

The trade-off between launching GT8 on PS5 vs GT7 on PS4 is substantially different. Which means no big difference in the visuals probably between PS5 vs PS6. PDI could also keep improving GT8 when the PS6 launches & add better graphics, which won't be controversial. While I know that the graphics on many games not just GT7 looks similar on PS4 the hardware in the PS5 very different.

It's uncertain for us gamers how much difference in the development & the observed visual result there could be if GT7 had a PS5 version which utilized it's full potential & I'm not talking numbers of cars on a track, but other limitations on hardware & software graphics potential.
The Sophy AI is a good example of hardware power that is not about visuals but extremely important for gameplay fun overall.

Having first bought GT7 on PS4, and then upgrading when an opportunity to do so came about, I have two things which make me happy that I upgraded: loading times and haptic feedback. I accept the evolution of Sophy is a huge step too, but I mainly play online so that hasn't effected me, really.

In hindsight, I think if Sophy had been available from Day 1 and they could've incorporated her into the main campaign, then I would've preferred it were a PS5 exclusive in order for them to have done so.

It makes me wonder what the compromise would be in the case of a PS5/PS6 cross gen release.

I don't disagree with anything your saying here. If PS6 is "delayed" than GT8 will come out before it anyway.

With the announcement of PS5P production being ramped up, think that will bring a new game forward? Could still be cross gen. Anyone having just shelled out $1000 in 2026 and say 2027 due to GTA6, if a new GT came out in 2028, I doubt they’d be getting a PS6. Those with say six year old to eight year old PS5s, in 2028, yeah.
My PS5P is only a couple years old. I’d have to slide that console to my daughter while I upgrade to a PS6, but then a PS6 Pro would probably come out not too long after.
