How a PlayStation 6 Delay Could Impact Gran Turismo 8

So what you are saying is:

No PS6 anytime soon!

Heck they can't even produce enough PS5 Pro right now to meet the demands...

What makes anyone think they can produce PS5 slim, PS5 Pro and PS6 at the same time for Christmas 2027.

The PS5 generation will have to soldier on through 2030.
That's what I'm saying too, because that would be overwhelming for the company to handle at one time. They should take it one step at a time. See how far the ps5 generation can go and then see what the gaming world brings with the ps6.

Yes, we'll all have to tough it out with the ps5 era for now.

Correct, so there is every chance GT8 will have to come out before PS6 is ready, despite the extended lifespan of GT7. Sony might not have much choice for all we know

I guess Kaz and his team will have to guide Sony to make the right decision for the release date of the ps6 first. Then they will probably release gt8 to the public several months after the fact.

More like Sony does Sony and Kaz works around the rest... 😨

Regardless of when it gets released, unless you're willing to stand in line at your local store with 500 other people in hopes of getting one of the three in stock or pay a 200% markup from flippers, you can add six months, 12 months, maybe more before you'll be able to get one anyway. Just like the PS5 but worse.

So if GT8 is for PS6 only, the irony is the Dailies and such will be more baron than they are today. Not because they're lame, but because of lack of participants. 1P people wouldn't be effected, though.

I think you'll need to buy the PS6 from the playstation site with your PSN account to log in to get one. You can get the 1TB PS5 with disc drive for £569.99 there at the moment.

Edit. A link.

Nope. What I'm saying is what I said. No need to create new things I didn't say as an interpretation.

The recent figures stated in the Asha Sharma puff-piece in Fortune for the "Project Helix" Xbox* of $1,200 - $1,800 per unit (unless subsidised by Microsoft) could well give Sony the green light to go with a PS6 at the same price bracket.

I have no particular opinion on the PS6's ETA.

*Also discless...

As usual, that's not how anything works.

SIE is not going to make decisions on hardware based on what one small team that makes a game once every four years and comprises <1% of all software sales on the platform thinks will be best.

At one point in time I thought Sony might delay the PS6 but right now I don't know because I don't think the ram prices are going down any time soon

If it will be released soon, then PS5 will be supported as much.

With 1000+ dollar price tag, it won’t be mass product but nieche one. Sony will be supporting PS5 with 100 milion users. So GT8 must come to PS5 or it will flop.

I agree completely. I don't really think I will be buying one. 1000+ price tag is too rich for my blood. If someone gifts me one that's a different story

I sometimes think that, the best would be getting GT8 as fully dedicated PS5 game full psvr2 support and being evolution of GT7 with all content but expanded, and then getting possible PS6 upgrade with just better visuals.

What is the rationale for a new console or GT? What are we expecting either of those things to do that the current cant?

Given how expensive AI is making RAM, a new console would either be overly expensive, or barely an upgrade. Plus the catalogue of games isn't great.

You are right, that's not what you said...
sorry for jumping at your throat and trying to put words into your mouth. Not cool of me.

And thanks for the clarification.

Based on the provided information

I am going out on my own limb and assume

If current situation pushes the console prices way up past $1000 and becomes the new norm, AND both MS and Sony are in need of flowing capital,

In such case the competition is going to drive the prices up rather than down...

Instead of having the old formula of constructive cycle: being the cheaper the price, the more people will buy it and THUS profits comes from the quantity sold...

But now we may have to go the other way: the "destructive cycle" (K-shape), which is that, higher cost to manufacture, leads to higher cost of sale, and thus much less people able to buy, and thus driving the sales prediction to fall, creating limited runs, but demands will still be slightly higher than supply, same situation we are now with the PS5 Pro, further driving prices even higher past $2500 on the black market?!

Profits from scarcity ?!?
Can that even last long enough or will people just give up gaming ?

Obvious path as a few have indicated above:

GT7 being already a cross Gen, helped people, including myself, to transition from the PS4 Pro to the PS5.

GT8 might have to also go down that cross Gen path.

So we might come to a unique situation, where you have two GT games, being cross Gens, overlap, and being able to play with each other....

Imagine the scenario of someone on GT7 with the PS4 Pro,
Playing online against someone with GT8 on the PS6

Ok... Why not ...

This is the most balanced and probably most realistic outcome, so that Sony and Kaz are not doing the Mexican stand off.

If this is the case, and as long as GT8 is PSVR2 compliant, I could still buy it to play on my PS5....

... Then if PS6 will have VR2 or VR3, then I could upgrade again (if there was a need for it)

I am just speaking out loud, and prepare myself mentally and thus financially for the possible scenario....

Making GT8 or any other popular game a PS6 exclusive would be leaving a gigantic amount of sales and money on the table, for the unproven idea that it could be a "system seller" when a sim racing game has never even been close to that. The increase in capabilities from 5 to 6 will be by far the smallest in the history of consoles, much less than the jump from 4 to 5 which Sony and PD obviously decided was worth going cross-gen. Sorry, I just don't see it. The PS6 only makes sense as a luxury good for the people with too much money to spend, I can't see Sony trying to push people to it that way.

It would be terrifically ironic, given PD's mission with Gran Turismo to make the game accessible and enjoyable for players of all kinds!!!
