How do you Access "Beyond the Apex"?

Well I was talking specially to the replays, because they are from a "media" you can buy.
Either they fall under fair use laws or it is actually in the copyright that their intent was to be shared to prove your times. But I believe it would be fair use though.

Well, as the making of the movie was organised the Sony Computer Entertainment America exclusively, it is possible that only the US Blu-Ray owners will actually have it. That'd be pretty weak though...
Yes and no. Considering the amount of demo talk I hear coming out of the US, even from fans of the GT games, it makes sense that they would have to give something extra to "justify" the price.

So, you could see it as an insult to Americans because they had to appease the market so they would actually buy it. Although, judging from my troubles at obtaining a copy I don't think it was necessary.

I can't believe that it's only available to owners of the US version.

The EU version is up to speed with the JPN version. And I really can't see PD leaving out their home market.
Here's hoping it stands to reason that Japanese owners will get it then so will everyone else.
Wherever we happen to live or whichever copy of the game we own

I can't believe the US had to wait this long for their copy of GT5:P.

Gotta throw us some kind of bone for waiting this long. :)

I just picked up the game and was curious as well as to where Beyond the Apex was. I installed the game and now I'm downloading an update.

(I bought a PS3 a couple weeks ago just for this game!)

Yeah I know much wants more as me mum used to say :sly:

Wow heres me buying the BD version just for the Beyond the apex and its not available to me in Ireland. I could have stttled for the downloaded version if I knew this was going to happen.

Was good, lol Kaz is an insomniac who never sleeps its freaky... anyways one thing I found ironic is how they explain why they do not want to make "the real driving sim" too realistic. They say too much realism will take away from the gameplay, I really think its the opposite lol, it makes me sad that PD believes this.

I think he said it's a fine line between realism and gameplay. It would be nice to have a "Hard Core" simulation mode. It was interesting to hear that his love of the beauty of the cars (wanting them to be as beautiful as possible) is his reasoning for not having damage introduced into Prologue. Another interesting thing he said was that he has only realized about 10-15% of his "vision" with GT5:Prologue. I can't imagine what the other 85-90% will be like.

Just watched Beyond the Apex. Loved it.

I thought it really sucked. Not even worth the bother.

*makes sure JASE72 is out of the room*

I actually enjoyed it throughly!!! A great bonus for the US release.

i thought the apex video was cool but i heard there was going to be some Top Gear on the disc. either there isnt or i havent found it. that would have made this like 10x better!!

I really want to see this documentary. I don't understand why they didn't release to the rest of the world.

As someone said earlier about "to justify the price", well hang on a minute. We still had to pay for this game as well as every single person who has bought this game (thats over 1 million people). So surely they could release it as a downloadable movie for the EU and Japan fairly quickly.

Personally, it's something which really grabs my intrests rather than the things which are on GT TV at the moment. Perhaps I'd be less annoyed if the EU were to have had a Topgear episode by now, but we haven't.

I hope PD give the rest of the world who have bought this game, the movie we deserve.

Yeah, I laughed at that. I do know I have heard him say that graphically he won't be happy until live rendered graphics are equal to where pre-rendered movie-style CGI is. So, that could be a large part of it. That and from GT2 on he has talked about GT as an encyclopedia of cars. So, probably no where near enough cars for him yet.

You will notice I only put quotes around justify. As if to say, it is only justifying it to the NA audience which, even on GTP, has had a large number of people calling it an over-priced demo. The fact that so many people in EU bought it without this included shows they didn't need a justification to see it as more than a demo. Many in NA did.

Personally, it's something which really grabs my interests rather than the things which are on GT TV at the moment. Perhaps I'd be less annoyed if the EU were to have had a Topgear episode by now, but we haven't.
If it makes you feel any better all GT TV has for us is the opening video and Beyond the Apex. I don't even get the option to download the videos you already have. And the News section has one item that says, "This is the news section....."

I hope PD give the rest of the world who have bought this game, the movie we deserve.
I agree, and I want the rest of the GT-R videos as I only have the first part from my JPN demo, which is all in Japanese.

I definitely think any GT fans should see Beyond the Apex though. It was intriguing enough that my wife even sat there and watched it. She isn't into many video games or cars, but she does get into music and art and she immediately recognized that Kazunori Yamauchi is an artist who takes his art extremely seriously, so she was able to understand him on that level and found she had a lot of respect for him, even if his creation has stolen her husband away for the next few weeks.

Remember that the whole fun of games is escapism from reality, if you make the game too realistic, it will become boring and/or frustrating.
However, the whole point of Gran Turismo and other driving sims is that it gives us the escapism in the sense we wouldnt normally be able to drive these cars or race them all over the world and at these speeds without worry.
So, I think the game can go very far with the realism thing, but it does have its limits. For example, not everyone would find it fun that they would have to pay for all the costs of running and maintaing a race car or having to wait "real-time" while your car is moved across the world to the next race track. Or how about constant engine failures?

There is always such a thing as "too" much realism, it varys from game to game.

Hello everyone,

i want to ask you a question... Beyond The Apex is the documentary that is, supposedly, packed with the blu ray version of the game, right?
It's just that i have the PAL blu ray version of the game and i don't see this documentary anywhere! Neither inside the game nor via the XMB on the main menu...
How do I see it? Or is it just not included in the european version?

Thanks,

Manuel

As far as I know, it is a Blu-ray exclusive to the U.S. release.

I only managed to squeeze in a few hours of Gran Turismo last night, but didn't notice the "Beyond the Apex" documentary anywhere. I checked the "Videos" section when not in the game, and browsed all of the menus and it was nowhere to be found.

Is this something that must be unlocked?

Are you a PAL player? Or a Downloaded US Player? Or a Japanese Player?

If your either of these the game is not included on those versions.

I agree, the price in the US was probably less or the same as was paid in the UK.... I paid even more for my JPN copy and as Beyond the Apex is a GT-TV thing (thats were you access it from) I don't see why it can't be a download... I also what a GT-TV download of the EU intro..

is your PS3 online?

Normally, yes. I have been having internet issues lately (only on PS3)...I tried to download the updated twice, both times about 1/3 of the way through (which took 30 minutes to get to), it said "error, blah blah".

Does "Beyond the Apex" come with the new update?

I think because this video is played through GT-TV its region free playback (because its just another video ingame). Its not an independent Blu Ray movie disc.
