How do you drive RUFs well in GT5 for either drift or grip style???

Also are there any other RR cars in GT5??
 
I drive both ways. Grip and Drift style. It all depends on the track, what I am doing and the cars I am versing.

What do you use RR cars for?
Is it for drifting.
Is it better at racing.
Does it have more power.
Or do you just like to collect them.

Gotcha. Just thought you were going somewhere else with that.
 
^Right. Focusing on corner exit is key. The rear engine placement allows for more weight on the rear wheels than you get in other layouts. This can give you better corner exit than FRs, but you need to be careful on the throttle. Apply too much throttle too early, and you'll end up as part of the track landscaping.

Just to clarify, I'm asking on driving techniques on how to drive RR cars. How do you drive them for grip/speed, and how do you drive them for drift/fun.

I was having trouble because FR cars are so easy to drive, counter-steer, and I can feel it when the back is sliding out.

When I drive RUFs, it feels like I am driving on comfort tires.....I think because RUFs got so much power, throttle control is super sensitive.

Just looking for more input on driving techniques...
 
Slow in fast out is the way to go for RR cars. What I usually do to drive the RUF's is to try to keep the majority of the braking done in a straight line to keep the back end stable. Trail brake while turning into the corner to keep some weight over the front to aid turn in. Steady throttle through the mid corner and exit to stable the rear but be careful not to give too much gas or it can easily turn into oversteer.
 
How do you drive RR Rufs? Very carefully. Serious. Grab hold of the wheel, grit your teeth, clench your cheeks, and mash the throttle.

If you want to drift them, just drive them like you would any other car. They will drift whether you want them to or not. Lift-off, on-throttle, braking, etc.

If you want to focus more on grip driving, you may have to add some ballast to the front, as well as tame any more oversteer with suspension settings (softer rear, harder front, add a GT Auto wing to the BTR, blahblahblah). Slow in, fast out. Brake and accelerate going as straight as possible. Prepare for some counter-steer in fast esses. Left-foot braking with some simultaneous partial throttle if you're entering a tight corner after a medium-to-long sweeper.

I'm loving the RGT '00 around the Nùr. Handles some of the trickiest corners with more confidence than other Touring Cars I've tried. I just don't like it's instability at high speed after the long straight.
 
RR cars often are bad handling. But with the right wheelbase , suspention setup and weight distribution they turn in to FR and MR killers :p
Dont try the Ruf Yellowbird :) its a little nerve wrecking to drive that thing fast.
Try the RUF RGT'00.
I use a setup where it drifts but its hard to make it spin out of controll.
Once u exit a corner in the RGT (slightly drifting) it puts the power from the rear tyres So good back on the road ! no smoking out tyres just pure grip. (just keep in mind most weight is in the back)

What instability? the tight corners after the long streight ? Its exiting braking there :) not in a bad way. It flows tru there.

i have found that a great way to learn the RR driving dynamics is to start with an A110, maybe set it up a little, and spend some time here first. down the line try the Ruf RGT. these are not terribly hard to drive although certainly different and a bit tricky with the RR config.

Yellowbird is the end of the line. i'm not bad with the RGT, but the Yellowbird still evades my wishes.
 
I've tuned a CTR2 to drive like a rwd, simply turn the limited slip settings all the way down to 5 up front, and set the center differential to the 90 for the rear.

It will still grip the front tires a bit but it will slide around still.

As for driving them be gentle when coming off the brakes, if you come off the brakes quickly it can unsettle the car.
To combat Lift off oversteer always stay on the gas a bit, when braking stay on the throttle a bit. You can take advantage of the loads of grip on corner exits as long a you're gentle, try to get you corner speed right and hold the throttle at that speed, and dont lift.

What about the RUF CTR2 '96?

As daan says, it's 4WD. A must-have upgrade for this car is the adjustable torque splitter differential-ish thingy, otherwise it spins the front wheels up every time you even think about the throttle.

Still, with a few laps practice it's a lot of fun!

Either i try to do "grip" driving and mostly fail at it with RR cars :)
Or i just heavily enjoy entering the slide, make a correction move on the wheel and just push the pedal to have the monster make its way forward forward forward :)

Isn't the Ford GT a RR car too?

EDIT; sorry it's MR, but the engine is at the back of the car too!
 
Frankly admit, I cannot drive Yellowbird at all! lol

ha! i can admit that too. but as long as the RGT is around, my RR needs are covered. one day i'll maybe give the Yellowbird more of my semi-precious time, but for now i'll take the faster car that has its sh!z together more. of course i like challenges, so...
