How does the pp system work?

I took a break for about 3-4 days from playing and got put off of this game a bit last night. I don't know if it was my driving got worse / different , was in a lobby all assists off except ABS, 500PP, RS tyres, on Trial Mountain. Was doing laps in an R34 got around 1:24 then did laps in Opera S2000 was getting 1:22 could prob get 1:21 or 1:20 and it made me think how ridiculous some of the cars handling is on this game, on some cars I noticed you can smash right into a wall and not lose much speed at all, same goes for tyres heavy squealing round bends, but not slowing down much.

The reason I got put off is because where I took a break, I initially started driving more arcadey and it was working... I was miles ahead in every room I went in driving like this. I had much more pleasure before I took a break and was driving "normal" but the PP levels don't mean much at all when the cars are all over the place in terms of physics, some are bad some are completely unrealistically good.

The only reason I mention the Opera S2000 and not things like the RX500 etc is that I know it's got alright handling but didn't know why it was so fast, until I looked at what was going on with acceleration and not much loss of speed.

There are so many things that seem wrong with this game that I don't even want to play it any more, I hate single player, or driving on Free Run on my own (with no hotlap leaderboard, or things to achieve). I could do that with normal cars that aren't messed up physics wise and use any tyres, but online is (imo) a games main thing and where the lifespan is, and at the moment I can't race online without something being up with it, it's no fun at all with this physics / PP / tyre mess.

Gentoo64, I agree with your observations. I have recently got a bit jaded for similar reasons; PP anomalies and that Focus-RS-02-Glitch and other flawed builds. Once I find a car that is best for the track and PP limit it does get boring and to some extent that's what many are doing especially when assists encourage arcady driving styles.

I visited a French room the other day they were using low pp 400-450, sports hard, no assists and changed their cars almost every race but stayed on the same track for ages. It was very demanding and far more rewarding than most rooms and the suppressed PP seemed to be a great leveler. Driving with finesse was the only way to progress, wheel and pedals really helps.

Came across some rooms doing 1 make/model but purchase/bring and tune your own, these were really great with low or no assists and some night driving in the mix, they were in Belgium and Spain I think.

I am writing this because for the first time since 12/2012 I am not GT6'n! :)
