How I play GTS, anyone else?

No, I'm expecting a modern super GT car to handle like a modern Super GT car. You may have missed my other thread about "Binary Clutch + Linear Throttle + Poor Tyre Model =" but to make a long story short, watch a lap

@kevlar_hybrid
So how many super gt cars have you raced on Fuji? Also it’s amazing that you actually led design teams on f1 cars!
Also, have you been on any McLaren Simulators? Have you been on Vesaro sport? A friend is considering a purchase. Any comment as to the physics? Are there more accurate ones available?
What do you recommend for under 30k?
You have tremendous experience and it’s great to see that you play Gt Sport regularly. Fun, isn’t it?

Well as somebody who wouldn't have a clue about how it feels to drive a racing car (or even a road car) on the limits, I find a lot of the talk about the physics of driving sims to be interesting, but at the end of the day pretty meaningless for me as I've not got anything for comparison to the real world, and nor will I ever have. So I have a little checklist and this is how it goes for GTS

1. Does the game provide me with a realistic impression of driving - YES
2. Do the replays look convincing - YES
3. Am I having fun - YES
4. Is it challenging - YES

While I'd like a driving sim to be as realistic as possible, the truth is that I wouldn't know it if I was driving it. I also have both AC and PCars 2 and they're different for sure, but I couldn't tell you which was the most realistic out of the three - I need to come onto the highly opinionated sim racing forums where people argue passionately about this to find out, and I never really do find out as everybody has their own idea of what is realistic and what isn't.

So I'll just enjoy GTS for what it is.

Nowadays I log in, go check out the weekly race schedule and think to myself if the tracks + cars combo is worth the DR/SR risk(I'm down to B/B rank because of a dirty driver which got the best of me in a race, I still have to come back to B/S).

If it isn't, I'll just go to campaign mode where I decided to finally complete it, driving missions, license tests and circuit experiences are all done minus the final Driving Mission, which I got silver instead of gold due to poor Tyre management on my part and bad racing lines on the track...And because of that I have no will to try it again.

Then I might go check out some lobbies for some serious clean racing with rules or just **** about on the Nurburgring Tourist Layout in my road cars.

After that I usually go to the livery editor and try to come up with some new designs for my Gr. cars...I can easily lose entire hours on that thing!

Scapes/photo mode doesn't even exists in this game, far as I'm concerned.

My only experience with top end sims is an F1 one that's better (and more expensive) than McLarens. The ability to extract useable data was limited by the drivers' inability not to keep vomiting all over it. When I left that was the problem to solve and nothing else. I've never driven a Super GT car around Fuji, no. I love nearly every aspect of GT Sport and it's great fun but these few 'power on' issues are honestly a barrier to my enjoyment, for all the reasons I've exhaustively listed.

Fair points well made. Man are the replays second to none! It's sometimes amazing to see how good your lines were from a TV view as you felt they were 'sloppy' whilst driving. I love watching the official races live on YT as you get the excitement and amazing visuals.

Ooooh great point. I'll often revert to time trial around the ring. That's a constant on pretty much any driving game since GPL. Now that I'm too old and nervous to do it in real life!

Yes, I have the same issue with nausea with camera ‘effects’ in certain games. I have to turn off a whole bunch of stuff I am sure developers spent a lot of time implementing.
My way of playing is do a quick race or usually time trials if I am prepping for online. Then a race or 2.
I don’t enter unless I am in control at a decent pace. I use livery editor scapes a bit.
I’ve not done one GT League. The other sections I am about90-95 percent complete.
I am certain if one is coming from project cars2 to GT Sport it would be eye opening. I know when I went gt3 McLaren at Nurb GP in dry and wet in pc2 first time after a few laps I was amazed coming from GT Sport how you could step on it in the slow parts right at apex 100 percent and have perfect grip. To me that’s unreal in relation to the cars I have driven. For me in that game you can have greater steering angle plus floored throttle at apex and still not spin? I’ve seen people spin in dry conditions not even wet doing what is standard throttle in pc2.
So that’s why imo GT Sport is a better representation of reality physics wise.
All of these are games and it’s cool to drive in weather for a different look even if the grip is way too much for what a person seems real.
Regardless of any nonsense, GT Sport nails absolutely nails the experience of real racing vs real humans.
I’d take any quality ‘physics’ with real competition with humans and bop and penalties and driver ratings over a 30k simulator like my friends looking at. He’s not going to spend that much I don’t think. For 25 percent of that you can have more fun racing karts irl quite a bit. They are just not as popular in my area as others in the world.
My buddy is getting his ps4 and stuff soon. Lol old man and console gaming! I am sure he will find it captures the essence of racing as well as can be done in a video game right now and see little need to spend 25-30k. He’s skeptical but we will see.
I know one thing. Sport mode can supply some Adrenalin which is a good thing.
Cheers

Given that you don't let any Tom, Dick, or Harry anywhere near these kind of simulators I'm kind of surprised that would problem. I mean these guys using a sim at that level would be professional racing drivers, and would have experienced way more G-forces in real driving than than any sim can provide - unless you've invented some kind of Star-Trekesque artificial gravity effect.

Sure, I know of a lot of people who suffer serious nausea when in VR, but I honestly would have thought a professional racing driver's stomach would be pretty much made out of cast iron.

It was more akin to sea sickness than anything else. Lots of drivers suffered, including Schumacher way back when. Some lack of comprehension between brain and body caused it, not just 1g accelerations, as you say, they can handle way more.

I sit down and play for a few laps sliding off of each corner like the track is made of ice. After the fourth or fifth attempt at trying to make it around a track without “thudding” into a wall or sliding sideways along some gravel I scream the F word realy loud, unhook the wheel I just purchased and pack it up. I then go to the garage and choose one of the countless free duplicate hatchbacks it gives me for my daily car and delete it. Once that is done I close the game and vow to never play this useless piece of **** again and wish that I could get my money back.

I really regret Purchasing this game,

realism at realistic as I can be.

Turn off ABS on non ABS car
Using correct steering degree ( gr3 : 540, gr4: 900 )
Traction control depens on car

And off course cockpit cam + HUD = off, and just using audio from headphone and side/rear mirrors to locate opponents position and using logic to race with them.

The video below is how I play with LG 49 inch TV ( laggy but acceptable )

I think it's great that you make videos and want people to watch them. Like, really badly want people to watch them.

I do my DW first and if the car is duplicate I deleted it after that I go do some online lobby usually drifting or nurburgring and that's about it.
