How many cars should GT6 have?

I see some idea of getting rid of the UCD. I think maybe a reclassification of the car dealerships is in need. Just a thought here...

5 Types: Showroom dealership, Used dealership, Historic dealership, Online Dealership, and PD dealership.

Showroom dealership: Newest cars in mint condition. I do like being able to buy a brand new 1970 Ford, but it's not realistic. To be practical, Nothing older than 2000(or pick a different recent year) appears here. These are new car prices near dealership prices when they were new; similar to what we have now. About 30% of the game's cars are here.

Used dealership: Keep the idea of the current dealership but tweaked. No "rare" cars appear here. No small number of cars to be seen limit, it cycles 50 cars per day, and with an estimated 300-350 cars here, it takes just a few races to flip through them all. You can find the '99 Viper here. Prices are partial based on their age, mileage, rarity, etc. You can buy a 20 year old MX-5 with 100,000km for a few thousand. These cars will not ever perform like the originals, 50-80% HP potential. Current mileage, color, etc. are random, but appropriate. You won't see that MX-5 with 2,000km. I'm sure PD could come up with a good formula. About 40% of the game's cars are here.

Historic dealership: This is where I think the game could be fun. Cars such as racing models (see Toyota GT-ONE, Mazda 787B) are here. These are available all the time, no waiting, but highly priced based on their rarity. Prime example: '54 Mercedes-Benz SL300 Gullwing. One twist: Each day a different "random" version of it is available. Different color, different mileage, different HP potential (using the UCD formula). Occasionally there is a gem. This is similar to reality where different types of rare historic cars come on the market. 30% of the game's cars are here.

Online dealership: You sell your car on your game, and you're hooked up to the internet? Your car goes into this junk pile. Anyone and everyone can grab it since it's on their servers. Once it's gone, it's gone. I'm sure there will be limitations due to different discs (e.g. PAL). You pay a price for these, but it doesn't exceed "new price", except in an auction (keep reading). If they don't go, they automatically go down in price. The rare cars go up for auction, basically highest bidder in a set time.

And finally, PD dealership: Exactly similar to the OCD we have today. Select cars appear here, but for a valued price or a limited version (special livery, etc.). PD can have fun with this. These can be anything from the first 3 dealerships.

 Thanks. I just want it to be better. I'm sure it's not the easiest idea, but at least it'll sort out the cars. 200 easily accessable cars out of 1000 isn't as much fun as 600 out of 600 easily accessable cars. The amount of cars is nearly irrelevant if you can't get them to have fun with them... but shoving them all in a dealership isn't fun either.

This is the single most brilliant idea I have ever seen, I really hope PD get to somehow see this, because if I wasn't going to buy GT6 (which I will) , I would buy it just for this being included. It is an immense formula.

What a post!!:dopey::cheers::sly:

Instead of hoping for a huge number of cars, why don't we hope that PD can put them into good use?

Using F1 2010 as an example, that game has very little variety in cars. Not even 100. Yet Codies can manage to make F1 2010 such an entertaining game because they actually make you use your car for more than one race, and each race isn't just a three lap race around a track, each race includes Practice and Qualifications as well.

Although that might seem to change GT's traditions with "owning 1000 cars," it will certainly make the GT series a lot more fun.

@jubby On your idea of the historic dealership, why not have these cars available only by winning races? Or by reaching achievements in game?(miles driven, golds achieved, etc)

Where do you see concept cars being sold? I've always been against having concept cars in the game, personally.

Good points.

I could see some cars available by only winning races, but win before you can buy them(the expensive ones for instance). If we keep the A-Spec point system mixed in with a Licence system, it could be interesting too. You could buy low level historic cars off the back. You wouldn't need LM racers off the bat, for instance.

Concept cars... I missed them, sort of. The current concepts could be purchased new. The historic concepts will be in their right place, and the older non-historic (see Honda/Acura HSC) could be in the used dealership. One point though, if they made the production model version, don't put the concept in (I'm looking at you Nissan GTR). :sly:

Like everyone else is saying less Japanese based cars, and maybe more American cars. I'd say around 750 non duplicated cars, and around 250 duplicated.

I will quote again because your idea is fantastic. 👍 Put it on the Feedback section and people, let's vote! PD must read this somewhat. :)

WOW! Not even PD can think of something as brillient as your idea Jubby. I'll play GT6 forever hunting for cars if this exists in the game. You gotta put this in the feedback section. I'll promise you I'll vote "3" right away. :D PD's gotta see this! All those cars being premium with no standards period will be awesome.

I must say that Penguin got right to the point. 👍

Any game can be fun with 20 cars, you just need to put them to proper use and abuse. Longer and more elaborate championships are a must for the next installment of the series. Cars? 400 is enough, variety would be fairly sufficient. The events list need to be properly sized to use most of them, though.

That's nearly perfect but to add to it I would also have private sellers in there somehow. You know, from small ads for every day cars to someone trying to sell their race 1980s race car they bought from the team 10 years ago. With the back story as well, so you're not just buying some polygons and stats, you're buying something with a history.

Around 600+ premium cars but NO DUPLICATES counted. If I want a special tuned Mustang (for example) I could take it to Saleen and see all the versions they included. If I want to upgrade the H*ll out of my Supra I could take it to top secret. These "duplicates" would be counted as variants of the car. So GT6 should have 600+ cars and 1000+ variants.

I don't care how many cars GT6 has as long as they're all fully modeled in high quality, there's a regional balance, and there's variety. I LIKE taking a Daihatsu Midget II for a spin on Fuji 80s. I LIKE taking a Subaru 360 and tuning it up to be faster than a Subaru WRX. I LIKE bullying small cars with a Dodge Ram quad cab :D , and I would also like taking an 18-wheeler for a spin on Chamonix, or a combine harvester on the 'Ring. The last two are ridiculous exaggerations of course, but you get my point. Having every car being a car that was built with performance in mind gets boring. I like racing stuff that wasn't ever meant to be raced. If there was a bone stock base model Vauxhall Astra sedan in the game, I'd take that thing and turn it into a touring car. And so on, and so forth. Time for a GT6 forum methinks? :D

I don't want either cars like the Midget II to get removed just because they're slow. I just hope to see the Smart fortwo '11 in the car list in GT6. :p I love perfect car lists, and they better be all premium. (not joking)

Personally, I would make certain cars prize only, including concepts (where do you buy a one-off concept?), older race cars and certain limited production road cars (Yellowbird, Sileighty, 22B, 33 Stradale, CLK DTM, 250 GTO etc.). If there were more A-spec (and B-spec) events and PD brought back the GT3-style prize car roulette for championship wins, it would greatly expand the game. Instead of doing common grinding at the same place, you would have to re-race several championships to collect cars. My concept has a roulette of 4 for championships and a roulette of 2 for endurance races (No roulette for a series of single races and special completion prizes, these would be a fixed prize). Also, all cars that are available only in the used car dealership to purchase should be also prize cars so it is possible to have a 0 mileage example.

The way I imagine it:
New Car Dealership - All road cars from ~2004 onwards and a few older exceptions are here. 0 mileage.
Used Car Dealership - Most road cars not available in the NCD, as well as some that are, are available here. Cars will shuffle through and only a small selection will be available at any one time. Some cars are rare and some are common. Low-high mileage.
Race Car Dealership - Here you can purchase mostly modern Race Cars (such as DTM, Super GT, Le Mans prototypes, etc) from the last 6-8 years. Some older race cars may be available here, however most of that category of car will be exclusively prize cars. 0 mileage.
Tuning Car Dealership - All tuning cars here. 0 mileage.
Online Car Dealership - Periodically changing dealership. Any car can be here. 0 mileage.

The rest would be prize car exclusively (as well as in limited periods in the OCD).

Decent idea, except for the retention of reduced HP potential. Maybe it's just an obsession of mine, but that is one of the MOST ANNOYING things about the current UCD.

They should have two levels of engine rebuild... one is a standard rebuild of the existing engine, the other involves the installation of a completely new engine with full HP potential.

Idea: You win a prize car, it appears available in the applicable dealership for re-purchase. Does that sound like a good addition? It could be super rares/concepts are win only, but after you can keep buying it for a price after. Of course, you can win it again for free.

Oh, and I hated the prize wheel of death. I get your idea, though. If it was a short series, fine. I do not want to do a F1 style series that takes 10+hrs to wait on luck to get what I want.

I do like the engine rebuild idea. It's a little more complex, but if they put 2 totally different prices with totally different results, then that sounds great.

Since this conversation has become about dealerships... Can we address pricing issues?

Don't mind what the prices are, I just pray that GT6 doesn't go down the route of EA (Shift 2) where xp prize money is good until you reach the XP ceiling, then grinding becomes utterly pointless due to low prize money - unless you spend real money purchasing a complete garage unlock code.

A small lesson in how to kill a game.

For me GT5 was rescued by the seasonals - there was at last plenty credits to buy the cars.

As for responding to the OP - I still fantasize about the original rumours of 10,000+ cars - all premium of course!!!!
http://www.zerotohundred.com/newforums/automotive-news/181936-ps3s-gran-turismo-5-complete-list-of-cars.html

PD could start by having no more ridiculously priced cars in GT6. 10 and 20 million credits is insane. No cars in previous GTs ever cost this much.

Here's where I disagree:
"...... I do like being able to buy a brand new 1970 Ford, but it's not realistic. "

This is a game, therefore does not have to be realistic in this regard, isn't this the whole point of driving games and GT, in particular? To drive "your" car, to drive cars in their peak condition. If we are assuming all cars will be "premium" next game, all cars should be made available new regardless of year, which is why I like how Forza has it, plus it simplies the dealerships and it includes the defunct ones.

Why model these cars for premium status only to throw them in the UCD?
According to your idea, the new DLC Beetle that was released would not be available in the showroom dealership. The premium Supra and other pre-2000 premiums that are already in-game would also not fall under this rule. I like seeing the regular cars, brand new in the dealerships.

If some cars remain standard, then UCD it is I guess.

Since we already have museum cars, maybe they can model these historic cars and have some kind of museum in game, where you can look and get inside these gems, AutoVista even, these special cars.

Heck, GT could implement a sort of "car show" to make upcoming DLC more exciting, you select the brand and view what's coming up, or a virtual one where you walk around, snap photos, etc.

What I like is everyone's ideas so far, truly shows how many things we can come up with.

GT6 better have at least 150-200 new cars at minimum. Anything less would be disgrateful for the GT car selection heritage.

I understand your point... but I don't agree with your disagreement. Here's how/why:

"Real Driving Simulator" I know it's a game, but unless you have a rebuilt car (like the Trans Cammer from SEMA) you will be hard pressed to find any car older than 5-10 years old with zero miles on it. I'd imagine it's near impossible. And this isn't Forza. But, we wont go there. :dopey:

No standards. The reason for your disagreement is the current perception: Premium=NCD, Standard=UCD. This won't exist in my "model" and I doubt we'll see standards in the next game (call it a hunch). They can add DLC to each of the three dealerships. Of course, you'd get the first one free in your garage anyways.

I do like this idea though. This is excellent. 👍

Idea: You win a prize car, it appears available in the applicable dealership for re-purchase. Does that sound like a good addition? It could be super rares/concepts are win only, but after you can keep buying it for a price after. Of course, you can win it again for free.
Only if they keep the gift restrictions. It would be too easy to collect all the cars if you give a rare car to all your friends after purchasing multiple copies. I'd rather lift trading restrictions and make it harder to get some cars.
Oh, and I hated the prize wheel of death. I get your idea, though. If it was a short series, fine. I do not want to do a F1 style series that takes 10+hrs to wait on luck to get what I want.
I love it. It makes collecting all the cars in the game difficult, like it should be. In GT5, it's too easy to get every car. In GT3, sometimes you had to re-race enduros to get your car or redo championships. I enjoyed driving and racing in that game, so it was not a problem for me. In GT1 special events, there where 2 prize cars (in 2 colours each, so perhaps 4 in a way) available from each special event. It added replayability. In GT5, you can B-spec grind all day and then buy every car in the game. It's not a challenge, it's a joke.

Some cars should be difficult or hard work to acquire. Not an entire category to prevent you from racing any events, but only certain cars and difficulty/rarity should be appropriate with real life rarity. For example, some Group C cars should be relatively easy to acquire and some should be prize cars for the toughest races in the game. Rare race cars from the 60s should be difficult to get/be rare.

Also, there will probably always be a way around the roulette if it was implemented again. In GT3, you could save before the last race to manipulate which car you get, so there's an easy way around re-doing championships if you get the wrong car.

I wouldn't mind some cars be really hard to get compared to others as long as PD make EVERY car available to use in Arcade Mode. If some of us just want to try out a car, we shouldn't have to break our backs just to do that.

500 is more than enough at launch if all cars are really different models and diversity of manufacturers is high enough to represent important cars to the car culture.
