Rough estimate. My usual download runs at around 500 KB/sec. Off a really good site, I can get more though. on http://www.2wire.com/services/bwm.html I've gotten up to 1400. Just now I only scored 336

500 KB/sec!!!!!!!!! Holy ****!!! Mines not as fast. Just now, downloading Wolfenstein, It was 5min 55 sec, at 210-220, i forgot now. The highest I've had mine is like 850

It's all in you proximity to the server. If you were close to the download, there would be less switching slowing it down. Luckily many servers are located in NYC, which is really close. (I believe that this site is out of NYC)
