I have my son working out with me now. He is just beginning to do free weights and is catching on pretty quickly. I'm keeping him off the heavy weights for a while until he gets a little older. Last night he wanted to try and max out on bench. I wanted to tell him no but I couldn't resist testing his strength this one time. He only weighs140 lbs and is 12 years old. I know that's a little young to start on trying to max out on the bench so I made sure he understood we won't be doing this too often. Anyway he benched 150 lbs. I was a bit suprised because he just finished 4 sets of higher rep benches. I think he did pretty good for a beginner.

<-----Proud Dad :)

Be carefull doing the weights too soon, it can affect his growth so I've heard.

It can affect his bones. Because they are still growing and not quite solid yet. I am pretty careful with him with the weights. It was probably a one time thing till he gets older.

I agree...that is dang good. My natural max on bench before working out was 155 and that was in the 8th grade..., and last I checked, that's atleast a few years after 12 years of age. ;)

damn good though lol. i could barely do 150 for 6 before i started working out. that changed in about 6 weeks though.

He is in 6th grade .Anyway, I'm not going to push him too much. I don't want him to burn out on it because he started so young.
Later guys.

Hi,

I'm a skinny basket ball player, 6foot 1 aroudn 155 pounds...
My coach tell me to train but I dont know why but I'm just not motivated!
So anyway the first time I tried to bench well it was on a machine(the bar weights nothing) and I put around 100 pounds...! But the problem is I got so much long arms...enhance LONG!

Been doing wimpy workouts lately. I am back down to 390 again. Ohh well. Maybe I'm getting too old for this stuff.........................nah.

I meant my workouts have been wimpy since summer. Too much to do and not enough time for good workouts. I was at 420 before summer. If I keep dropping at this rate I will be below 350 by summers end.

I am 6'1 and weigh an astonishing 160lbs (on my good days), very long arms. However, I have been working out lately and made 230lbs. Nothing compared to some of these big boys, but I was rather proud of myself :p

Watch it. Bench pressing will stunt your growth. (or so I've heard)

This is my definition of physical fitness for the average male; be able to bench press your own body-weight. That said, I can lift approximately 130 (my weight almost to the pound).

i suck. i need to hit the gym again before track starts. i havent worked out in a longass time. since last school year. maybe with that hiatus, my muslces will have had time to total rejuvenation. now i can get like super strong(er) again and stuff...

ramble ramble.

whatever. lol, peace.

i'm not such a bench-presser, far too skinny for that

heigth: almost 6'2"
Weight: 147 lbs
maximum untill now: 121lbs

i started bench-pressing just a few months ago, so hopefully it will be a little bit more in the near future :grumpy:
