I Hope Polyphony Decide to Map the Clutch to the Controller

Assuming clutch is fully supported and mappable in options you may be able to map it to a button or trigger if you want. I doubt it will be a choice by default (like real time adjustments)

How many additional fingers do you have to grow to be able to manual shift using a controller AND use the clutch.... ?

You need to grow a foot...

(What would be cool is if you could sit a pad on the floor and use that as a clutch - mash any button with your foot to disengage clutch... I remember playing Goldeneye dual controllered...)

I think mapping the clutch to the L1 button would work quite well. But I can't be sure yet. If they do decide to include it I'd also need the freedom to map it anywhere I want so I can make changes untill it feels right.

or you could use the motion sensor to engage clutch, ie push forward to engage, pull back to release. May not be exactly accurate but funny as hell to watch.

You have to be moving that controller back and forth at a furious pace. Something only the worlds top masterbaiters could hope to accomplish:sly:

Controller users need to get wheel if they want to feel like driving a car instead if playing a game.

Can't disagree with that. Except for the Clutch. The Clutch on the G25 is essentially an ON/OFF Switch. This can be achieved just as well with a button.

i hope they have analog clutch in final product.

The idea of a clutch is something I very much like, but it seems that without force feedback on it it would almost be worse than not having it... also without some sort of force feedback seat it seems it would be hard to guage.

But hey, if it can be made an option, I hope they put it in and at worst we can just turn it off.

Well at the very least it would allow controller users to Clutch Kick while drifting. That's a huge bonus right there.

I can understand why many people wouldn't want to use this feature ( optional of course ) but it just makes too much sense not to implement it.

You guys do realise real life clutches have very little feedback, the 'feel' of the clutch is mostly dependant on the diaphram spring, position of the engaging spot is adjustment and wear and ~95% of the actual feedback is from the vehicles reaction in motion and sound (to a lesser extent vision and even more lesser vibration through the pedal due to friction) .

In games your feedback will pretty much be sound and visual and the main ingredient missing as always will be motion. The general feel/profile can be added with springs, like the Fanatec Porsche clutch that is springed to be 'poppy' rather than linear.

Would be great to have a manual clutch for controller users 👍

I remeber some game used in in PS2 and Xbox Era. It seemed great, but did not work as you wanted it to work.. It was worthless, you need more then 10 fingers for it, it slowed you down.

One of the only good things about NFS Pro Street was the clutch option. I'd love to see PD add it to GT5

I think it would be good to map the clutch on L1 button. You have only 2 fingers for R2 and L2, exactly like you don't have a third leg for a clutch pedal on a real car. And to shift gears with the right analog stick. It's a good idea before you get yourself a steering wheel. (IMO)

TOCA Race Driver had a controller clutch.

Paired with mechanical damage it lead to permanent destruction of every gearbox in less than 1 lap completed :)

Haha I think I turned the clutch on a few races with Toca and came to the same conclusion!

It's not really hard using a Clutch on a PS3 controller. I use my 6axis on LFS, and I use the Clutch mapped as L1, shifters as L2 and R2, R1 being Ebrake. Analog Sticks as accelerator/brake and Steering. And then I use the the Dpad to look back and to the sides. Ohh and Select is my change view button. It works like a charm, and if clutch is able to be mapped on a PS3 controller, I would really appreciate it since it can help when drifting.
