yeah you can bring the truck up to 2500 rpm and open the door and get out and walk next to it. its great for technical stuff and hillclimbs
 
well, the exhaust is on, and looks great ill put the pics up later. i had a bad vibration issues at high speeds and it suddenly went away. i looked under the truck and the extension housing off the back of the trans is complelty broken and the transfercase is resting on the skid plate. its sitting in the walmart parking lot.......
 
That's really not good... I wish I could say "hope it's not too bad," but that's gonna be some expensive repairs

$275 for a brand new extension housing. im gonna try n do some digging in the local junkyards so far no luck at the few ive tried
 
well, turns out i had to pull the whole trans out. while its out im having it completly rebuilt with new bearing syncros seals, gaskets, and input shaft.

should be back tomoro
 
Damn... I've had to do that... and it's not fun.
 
UPDATE:

i bought a powertrax locker for my rear axle to replace the terrible open diff thats in there now. i can spin a tire from 1st-4th in the rain and it really pisses me off, so hopefully i can hookup putting the power down to 2 tires.

also, i never put up pics of how my truck looks now with the new 5 inch exhaust and all the chrome blacked out. i am getting the rockers and over the fenders LINEX'd next week so ill take pics then.
 
alright well here are a few pics. i just sold my floor jack so i gotta wait til i can pull the wheels off to finish painting. i got 10 cans of cheapo spray paint to do my frame and everything under the truck before winter. i know it looks bad because its freezin balls out here in chicago and i have only done 2 cans so far.

In B4 "crooked bumper", "crappy paint", and yes i know i gotta fix my exhaust clamp.

rear cover is being replaced with a 08 SD aluminum finned cover painted white with black bolts and chrome washers.....it should look sick under the truck and match the front one.

pictures really bring out the imperfections. gotta paint those hubs. and i got new front leafsprings i already painted with tractor black. should lift the front about 2 inches then i am going to block the rear 3-4" (i havnt decided yet) then do some ladderbars to control the wheelhop form the added black.

when all is said and done.....hoipefully i can get er in Diesel Power magazine. im shootin for completion in summer 2012

The Goodyears are looking like it's time to change. I say Ground Hawgs.
 
i have almost 15k miles on that set of tires. theyre a year old and still about 60-70% tread

i would love a set of groundhawgs but they dont make them in the size i want next 35x12.5

i only have a 16x8 inch wheel so thats as wide as i can go. i am thinkin my next set of tires will the Pitbull Rockers....now those will set my truck off!
 
i haven't seen this thread updated till now. the black handles work (not sure about spritzing the badges, though)
 
I'm stoked, I just dropped my truck off at the Linex place today to get the rockers done.

I will take pics when I pick it up tonight. Finally gettin rid of the rust bubbles, and hopefully itll give my truck a pretty rugged look.

I will take some more pics in the daylight. Definetly gives a whole new rugged look and attitude to the truck. The linex is layed on super thick too, so it should hold up for a long time.

wish someone had done that to the Blazer I had. I could use it this year as a backup :P
 
Update. I have gone offroading on some REALLY good trails latley. I have all of my pictures of Facebook. Ill try and put some of the good ones on here, and give you the links to the videos.

Here is my truck after a full day of trail riding, its very clean because we are wheeling on half snow, half dirt, and its not too sloppy.

This is my buddies cherokee. Its got a rear locker 33" Nokian Vatiiva tires, and a few inches of lift. Offroad we are about equal, I can do most stuff he can as long as I can fit in there haha. Hillclimbs, I might have a edge on him since I have so much weight over the front axle.

Woods get pretty tight.....I ended up kissin that tree. Its up over a hump, and with my locker, it slid my tail end over and i was leaning against it. Couple of dents and scratches.....oh well.

You've got a nice truck. The 7.3 'Stroker is the only Powerstroke I really like (the 6.0 was a nightmare) and I really like that body style.

I couldn't imagine not owning a diesel vehicle. I own a '91 Dodge Ram D350. It has about 200K miles on it, came from the factory with 160hp, 400ft'lb torque (much more now, :dopey:) and I still get 20+mpg out of it.

Are you into the pulling scene at all? I, along with my brother have built quite a few engines on the 2.8 class. The first engine we built ('97 12 Valve Cummins) dyno'd over 1200 hp on an engine dyno, and we were quite happy with the results. We put it in a truck named "Ragged Out" and it won every pull it was in, unless it snapped something in the suspension.

The posts near the beginning of this thread are very humorous. It's funny when people who know nothing about diesels, and who have never built a diesel engine try to tell others what will or will not work.

Hope you don't mind the little de-rail.

Again, beautiful truck. I'll try and get some recent ones of mine posted up.

Nice rig man! Yeah, I am 100% addicted to sled pulling. I went to 8 local events last year, and hopefully 10 or more this coming season. I was even considering entering my truck in the street class.


As for the hill climbs, it may not be steep but the surface in a loose sand and gravel mix. My buddies cherokee on 33" MTR kevlars could not make it up this hill. Granted he didnt have a locker, but that comment about the CRV.....HA! NO WAY.

If you are into some sketchy stuff theres a hil where you do a U-turn on it and come back down and Saw-Out pretty good. I never had my truck on 2 wheels before.....


Next time Im there I will get the videos of the other climbs and stuff to do. I have more videos but they pretty much all have swearing in them, so I guess I cant post them up lol.
 
I'm no expert, but that doesn't appear to be the absolute best way to go 4 wheeling...
 
No offense, looking at those pics and watching the video the first thing I thought of is:
