Im done with this BS. I just shattered a $50 controller on the ground because I got pit maneuvered AGAIN on the last race of the all star championship.
Thanks PD for making the fellow racers idiots

While I also dispise the AI you might take this as a lesson to not throw expensive objects around. Once you make the decision to not toss controllers around it becomes easy to not get pissed.
If anything you should be pissed at yourself.

Also the only time the AI pitted me was when I made the mistake of pulling in front of them, which is entirely my fault.

The amount of times I got pit manoeuvred on that race infuriated me. The AI just don't stop accelerating even if they're driving into you. Sometimes they push you all the way down the track.

You can ask my brother, and my two friends that play. They all complain about the AI pitting them too.

And I get pissed at a lot of stuff, not my fault though. two words "brain tumors"

how else are you supposed to pass them

I agree, the AI seem to like to follow the line at all cost. If your on the line, and they want to over take, they will just bump you off instead of actually trying to go around you.

The AI is the best it has ever been, you must have turned into the other car.

Bull droppings, they even stay on the gas for quite a while after turning you around. AI is as ****** as ever, penalty system is even worse.
At least in GT4 you didn't get punished when they hit you from behind.

The combination of overly-aggressive AI and the most ridiculous and inconsistent penalty system I've seen is a recipe for controller smashing ragequits. I spent most of last night trying to gold all the Super License tests and there is some Bull**** of EPIC proportions going on there.

I think that the AI in GT5 is technically better than it has ever been in GT but it only works well when you drive the way the game wants you to drive and that's just unacceptable. Good AI needs to be adaptable and the AI drivers in this game are anything but. A big part of racing in real life is adapting to what the other cars are doing. If I want to late-brake into a corner to pass a car on the inside then that car should either see me coming and try to block the inside lane well before I get there or it should alter its racing line to compensate for the car that's there now. In GT5, more often than not the AI just freight-trains through it's regular racing line and if you're there then too damned bad. That is not good AI, unless the AI drivers are designed to be aggressive a-holes.

This man speaks the truth

I agree 100%. The AI is crappy at adapting to your driving and passes. You have to basically drive the way THEY want you to drive. Though I will say it's the best AI that GT has ever had (which isn't saying much).

I have to drive it like a trackday. No aggressive passing, no stuffing, and allow 10 feet between cars else they will punt you. Kinda lame for a racing game, I guess.

Oh good!! Finally a thread complaining about GT5 and the AI!
I thought it was never going to happen.

Yeah guys, we should all just be Polyphony sycophants and applaud anything and everything that they do. After all, there are no faults with GT5 :sly::sly::sly::sly::sly:

The one thing that annoys me to death is not the behavior of the AI per se but the fact that you get disqualified in S-license tests when the AI rams the player. I can see the point of getting disqualified when YOU ram a car but when they do it for no good reason it's a recipe for smashed controllers indeed.

What also bothers me is the high level of 'scriptedness' the AI has. People can make videos of how to beat certain tests describing how you have to pass car A on the left, then outbreak car B in the next corner and pass car C and D on the long stretch etc. etc.
It means the AI always simply does the exact same thing no matter what you are doing as a player. I had expected more from a 2010 game. This is almost like scripted waves of attackers in an 80's shooter.

I disagree apart from the super license tests are annoying. The ai is pretty much fine and does get better with level progression they are at their worst when your in a slower car than them on a straight and you try and block them its a right ordeal when theres 2 or 3 of them and when i say worst i mean the ai is actually quite good at putting the pressure on you.

The AI is not fast enough. Watching my B-spec driver is enough to turn away in disgust at how horrible the AI is programmed. I'm tired of ramming into the back of a car because they are scared to turn too fast. At least in Forza 3 you can have some good races with the AI and come away having enjoyed yourself. AI has always been one of GT's biggest shortcomings in my opinion. I think the AI in GT1 was actually probably the best. I have to go back to GT3, but I'm pretty sure it was pretty good then, too.

Intelligently when an opening presents itself due to a mistake. Instead of just late braking into every corner and forcing your way into the line the AI is already turning into. Like what you probably do every overtake of every race.

So because they don't want to cause a wreck by ramming into the car in front of them they are slow? Watch a replay next time you run a race, and then tell me what you think, and please try to be objective. Also, it helps if you don't use a car that can go 15x faster than the AI can in a corner to begin with.

Or post in the other threads about AI, instead of starting new ones to blame the game because someone broke their stuff. The AI made me crash... I know, I'll break my controller -- that'll show 'em!

I need one of those Bond cars equipped with a crapload of missiles so I can just take out the ones who freaking spin you out over and over.

Fixed.

Exactly.
This is AS (artificial stupidity).

I think I had to restart the Lamborghini Exclusive Race about 10 times before I managed to avoid getting pitted to last place on the first corner. It's actually possible to pit the AI, it's just really, really hard, and you often have to be constantly applying pressure for a period of time. As in all previous GTs, the contact physics act as if the AI cars weight several times what yours do, and have several times more grip, but I agree, this is the best it's ever been in GT, now it's just about 5x what your car has, instead of 10x.

Reminding me of Test Drive 5 from back in '97.

Actually Im using a slower car than the AI (because its all I have right now). I am counting on my driving to get me in the win.

And as far as Ive seen in over a week, the AI never makes a mistake

My strategy is get out in front early and stay there. If you get stuck tryin to make your way through the field, you are probably going to get spun. It is worse then them just keeping to the race line. I have had cars swerve in to me on a strait!

This is indeed disappointing. Hate bringing it up again but in Forza 3 the AI can actually be stressed into making mistakes if you turn up the heat enough on an AI car you're chasing. They spin out sometimes, take a corner too fast and get off the track and all sorts of other things that would happen to real drivers. They also sometimes get 'pissed off' when you knock them off the road and try to take revenge. I was really hoping for this same kind of dynamic AI behavior to be in GT5.

I like the AI. Pit maneuvers are ok. And when I receive one I just kick the hell-of-butts on the track until I can pit the disgraced back. Then I laugh my ass off watching the bastard on the grass.

And Yeah, they do A LOT of mistakes. On FR cars races they do it a lot.

When AI car bump to your car, you spin immediatly, if you bump AI cars you spin immediatly...

AI cars are on rails

Im at the point to where I just want to beat the game, because racing is pretty much isnt fun in the higher races

Truth. Like they hit corners at insane speeds, that you better not even attempt
