Im fed up with the dumb AI

I've been defending the AI up until I just ran the NASCAR Series for the first time. I already despise those garbage cans for still having 1940's technology. But now mix it in with how the AI drives in that round. It's the first time I've been upset with any part of the game.

What happens to me a lot too is when I pass an AI car, I keep going and all of a sudden my DFGT wheel starts pulling to one side for no good reason, only for me to find out that the AI car is driving 'glued' to my car, gently pushing one of the rear quarter panels as long as it takes for me to start spinning out. Unless I find some way to get rid of him before it's too late.

Absolutely crazy. No real driver would do that. Ever.
that's the pit maneuver in all its beauty... I thought that only the american police in high speed chases on tv do that but I was wrong :D.....

Has anyone suffered the speed drain PITT-like maneuver? I can't really understand how it works in physics, but for some reason, if an AI car drives into the back of your car, and does not PITT you, it somehow slows your car to a complete halt. What's more, your engine completely dies too!

Logic would suggest that you that the rear of my car would move in the direction the AI car was pushing it, but it just stays where it is. In a similar way, I find that sometimes, flying into the back of a car, is like flying into a brick wall (it has a similar effect). 👍

Okay I accept that the AI have eyes (yes!) but what about the rear end slamming?
/no sarcasm

@Vanon: Ehh. The ai always drives that route, even without a car in the middle. So this actually proves nothing, lol.

uk-gamer, the rear end slamming.. the thing is, the bots have a preset route when the race starts, if you get in the way of their preset route they will ram you/rear end you.

I just wish they didn't try to force you off the road, that's it..

I think a lot of issues stem from people trying to win every race without fail in order to plough through the game, and if they aren't in first at the first or last corners they start to get desperate. Not winning is a reality for every driver, its not an excuse to start smashing through the field...

It doesn't help when PD 'forces' the player to complete 15 odd license tests where the sole purpose is to see how quickly you can get to the front of the pack. The S license consists solely of these type of license tests!

You maybe right about the AI being OK, but when the games developers suggests that you drive like a maniac through the races, you can't really blame people for complaining when things don't turn out the way they expected. 👍

Are you sure? I tried last night and watching in the replay in that spot the AI cars follow the blue line in normal conditions... and this is the perfect example of the preset route you're talking about, they tend to follow the line as much as they can unfortunately....:nervous:

Thread title changed to something a little less of an issue in regard to the AUP.

Scaff

If you drive the first Endurance challenge and Drive the racing line when you lap cars, they will move outside the Racing line to let you pass, So they arent complete morons.

But it is mind numbingly frustrating sometimes when i have lost concentration from the mindless lead and brake too hard or too early and the AI will ram my car, but it will be to the left or right and i start to spin out, i counter steer to get control, AI is now turning opposite of where i am counter steering, I veer, react with opposite counter steer, Spin out.
Pos. 12/12

It is bothersome how the AI is a Tank, unmoved unless i am traveling 400km/h at their side panel. Yet I am fragile as a Fly and the AI could win if it had enough of the 'I' to just Spin me out constantly.

The AI is rarely challenging, but has some interesting aspects to it, but It doesn't come close to imitating an actual driver's habits, just cold emotionless calculations.

What is wrong with the AI is it doesn't seem to care when you spin your car sideways, from that moment on you pretty much do not exist, it's as if you presence completely disappears. That is what PD needs to fix about this AI, that is the biggest flaw with the AI, once your car starts to go into a spin you don't seem to register as being on the road at all.

I very much agree with this. Doing a lot of B-spec now and my lower level driver was doing decently in a higher level race in 2nd place but span out on the last lap because his strength got too low. There was plenty of room for the cars behind to avoid a collision but they didn't try. He got hit once and went sideways taking up most of the track... then the other cars that hit him weren't even braking when doing so. It was after a corver but they could clearly see him for at least 50m before ramming him.

DUMB.

Not only in B-Spec:

  • Tone the drafting down to realistic levels. What's there doesn't belong from a simulation perspective, and it also doesn't belong from a (modern) gameplay perspective.
  • Make the AI back off when it has a collision, regardless of heat level, rather than trying to power through if it's angry enough.

I agree with you here, but one thing, if you look at b-spec your driver will rapidly cool down when losing control. You still stay in the red if you are already there, but they should make this for collisions too, maybe more extreme.

One reason not to is how bad the B-spec AI can be at overtaking. Maybe it's my fault for not choosing the best time to overtake, but they very readily make contact or drive right beside the car rubbing it... If this cooled them off every time passing would be a lot more difficult.

I do still agree though, the AI should be less nihilistic and actually care about making contact with people, at least to the point of it waking them up and stepping off the throttle (calming them down, bringing them back to their senses).

Drafting is stupid, you see it all too well in Daytona with b-spec. Your driver will be going way faster than the car behind it, then brake too much into the corner, but the other car does not, going right in for the bump draft. It seems like they just wanted to show this off for nascar, but it is exceptionally annoying when your car drives slower than it should because of this and another car zooms past you on the outside while your driver just sits there seemingly getting aroused over the car behind him sniffing his cars arse. Even greyhounds don't get distracted this way in a race lol. You don't bump draft someone only for both of you to slow way down and let the competition easily pass you.

Well the AI is definately getting better on a number of occasions when playing last night they took action to avoid me. I was testing them by swerving at them and they moved out of the way and on one race i drove around the wrong way and aimed at one and missed because it swerved out of the way not as dumb as some people say.

Though the AI is better, I prefer the AI in GT4, mainly because, although they we're like other racing games at the time, the same and bland. At least they didn't drive into me if I went onto their racing line, the AI in GT5 has cost me the NASCAR championship, which is a real shame.

It needs tweaks, but overall it's more advanced, even if the drivers appear to be drunk.. :)

I agree on the horrible AI. I flash like mad when I drive way faster than them and nothing happens. When I first pass them, I get pitted. GT5 should have implemented racing rules. It's especially annoying on Nürburgring where there's only room for 2 cars next to each other, but not when your freaking opponent drive in the middle and won't react to your flashing.

Well, I had some fun pitting back. Too bad they're just computed.. or that I've lost so many races and series because of that! -.-

I tried to pit one, and got rear ended by someone else and went flying, then got hit again, then again. It's like they gang up on me, :nervous:.

I've seen better IA in F1 Grand prix back in 1991, also in a little free games top down view called generally.. This IA is simply dumb and there is no excuse for it.

Tha AI is better when your in slower cars .

I agree the AI is not as bad as some let on. While the AI does have it's flaws I really like the idea the AI doesn't mind rubbing some paint. I like the idea AI will push back as I found other AI in sims were too passive. AI seems awful at Daytona though so just like Gt5 graphics some times the AI seems to be very good then other times I thinking I'm racing online instead of the AI. I wonder if a few who complaining about the AI are the same ones rams you online.

What I don't understand is a lot of people wants damage as a cost for being too aggressive yet complain about been wreck by the AI when racing aggressive. In Iracing where you have mechanical damage you have no chance of winning after receiving any damage. (I have little chance winning at all) I seldom get pitted by the AI if a race with some caution. (there are a few exception). For example going into a corner three wide is not a good idea as it greatly increase my chance of getting into a wreck.

i get pited by the AI because on the nascar challenges, they slipstream behind me on pit me on a corner. do what i do try to crush an ice cube, really works wonders

numbs your hand and prevents blisters. the heels on my thumbs are getting them makes driving hard

Im doing the nascar events, and its hard enough driving a 800 bhp monster around that locks up at the touch of a button because of no ABS, and its not being helped by being spun out via the pit manouver by the AI. I got spun out 3 times on the 3rd race, managing to pull myself back into 1st each time until on the last corner I got hit again and I came 9th. Brilliant, thanks PD.
