Dude, you have no idea what your talking about.

Care to elaborate on that?

Are people actually saying the games industy doesn't make vast amounts of money so it's ok for them to charge utterly absurd amounts for very minor DLC updates?

Considering PD's track record nothing is confirmed until it actually happens.

I wouldn't be surprised if they tempted us every now and then with free dlc, but that the majority of it will cost us a few quid a pop. And I wouldn't blame them either. We got what we paid for, to expect anything else for free is unfair on PD considering they actually have to work to create this stuff for us.

I don't believe this to be the case. We didn't get what we paid for (considering that $60 was spent so we could play 800 PS2/PSP direct import cars), and its a shame that PD is looking to make money to fund whatever lofty projects they have on their radar now. The GT series has always been about setting genre defining graphics for its players, and it has seriously missed the mark with GT5.

1,000,000?! LOL
That's about 1,5 million dollars. Were do you think they get that money from? The average game designer gets around 50.000 dollars each year. The head director gets a maximum of 200.000 dollars. No were near 1,000,000 pounds.
And do you realize how much world wide advertising costs? Then there is the costs of the energy bill, computers, development kits, the rent of the building, and for this studio the trips to all the racing tracks all over the world, etc. Also, the biggest part of the money probably goes to the publisher, in this case, Sony.

Anyway,
I'm freely willing to pay for DLC as long as it's worth it. I would give 8 euro for a 10 car pack. Maybe even more depending on the cars.
As for tracks, 3-4 euro's for each track seems like a reasonable price.
I'm hoping for free DLC, but i'm definitely willing to pay for it.

Polyphony Digital really is the star child of Sony, so its unlike that they are getting paid 500k+ as salaries. Kazonuri probably gets million dollar bonuses.. how else could he afford to buy and maintain 2 Ford GTs?

No, Im saying that you dont know what the software industry is like. Whether or not the DLC is sold doesn't have an impact on the salaries of the programmers or animators. It all goes to "the company" and indirectly to the shareholders.

Yeah the staff might see a bit higher bonus if the dlc sells, but their bi-weekly paycheques wont change.

It's ok to charge for DLC if people are willing to buy the DLC.

Being this is my favorite game, I would probably pay for any and all DLC. Even if they release numerous car packs, tracks or events costing me an extra 100 bucks for the lot. GT is one of those things I cannot get enough of. Thrustmaster T500 on order! :)

Thats too bad that you dont like your game. I suggest you take it to ebgames and trade it for something you do like. Next time you buy a game you should perhaps rent it from blockbuster before you plop $60.

I am very happy with gt5 as a game. I rate it 9.5/10. The game cost me $220 total (game +wheel), so it is by far the single most expensive game I've played... but next to Oblivion, I've never played a better game.

No. What people are saying is that the "gaming industry" creates a product... games, or DLC, that people are willing to pay a certain amount of money for.

If they charge more than what people are willing to pay, guess what? People won't buy it.

It's really that simple, and I'm surprised it has to be spelled out for people.

Of course video game companies are "greedy" to use a loaded term. It's not a question of whether or not it's "ok."

They are a business. Business exists to make money. You can complain that they are charging too much for a specific product or service, and you have an option in that circumstance... don't buy it.

The people who create GT work on a product that is in high demand, so, that allows them to charge for things like DLC, and to make money from those efforts.

What I'm saying is correct, in the case of small software companies such as PD and VALVe who have allot of success, the employees will see their fair share of the success in the form of drastically higher than average salaries. Now this isn't typical of the game/software industry as a whole, I never claimed that, companies such as EA who still make very large sums of money but have a very large workforce are unlikely to pass their profits onto employees.

Employees salaries though is somewhat irrelevant to my point, that is that software companies don't need customers to pay through the teeth for very small, overpriced content updates simply to stay afloat, they are doing it because they can, which makes them greedy and I disapprove highly and always have done ever since the invent of overpriced DLC.

You dont speak for me. I've logged hundreds of driving hours into the game. If you want to define 'worth' as the number of premium cars, that's your business. You are obviously missing point though.

Classic moment of cognitive dissonance. There is no way one could say that, after investing $220 in a game, that the game is bad and not up to their expectations.

But I agree - if I could return the game now and get at least 50% of the original price value.. I'd be very happy.

My opinion is that upgrades from standard (actually sub-standard) to premium should be free. Afterall PD has been marketing the crap out of having over 1,000 cars.

PD is welcome to charge for "new" premium models.

My reasoning is that PD is playing a semantics game with the terms "standard" and "premium" in order to make the sub-standard models at least sound acceptable and to sell their title.

Say what you want about T10 and FM3, but their single model approach and DLC is much more straightforward. Now that fact that you can only get certain exclusive cars by repurchasing an FM3 "Ultimate Edition" is straightup highway robbery.

This was broken from before shipment with all of these "chrome" and "stealth" cars. Not every play can enjoy the same content of the game.

Everyone who has $100 collector edition does get the same car. That part of the quote was sorta lost in translation. Some players are more equal than others.

I was at gamestop the other day and on the board is stated they were giving 25 bucks for this game. Less than the new Call of Duty.

I don't think its cognitive dissonance for me in this case. I had 30 days to take back the wheel, and at the beginning I was very concerned with "am I having lots of fun," because if I wasn't I was going to go get most of my money back.

Though I admit, I might be saying 9.5 when I mean 8.5.

So now on day 45 and I'm quite addicted to the game. I bought CoD:BO at the same time as buying GT5, and have yet to unwrap the plastic on that game... I really am having lots of fun with GT5.

I spent more than $220, I bought a £460 game seat that I got specifically for GT5.... and I can, the game is deeply flawed, gutted I didn't buy a fanatic wheel so I could get forza too.

Exactly, so its no different than DLC, those of us with some cash are more equal than those of us w/o cash. Just like Japanese players are more equal that US players, just like US players are more equal than Canadians.

By delivering different content based on location and payment, the whole "everyone gets the same game" is broken.

I'm waiting 6months until I buy a seat+expensive wheel... if I am still playing GT5 daily in June like I am playing in Dec+Jan... then it will be worth it.

I dont think that they should be free per say... but I wont spend money on any "upgraded" cars. well maybe the bugatti or the bmw race cars, but I wont be happy.

I am happy to spend money on some new cars like a BMW 1 series M coupe, or a Model T Ford.

Get a fanatic wheel with clubsport pedals, ISR say it's the best setup for GT5 and it's compatible with Forza as well. At least I'll get some more use out of my G25 when and if simbin release GTR3, that's a minor consolation I guess.

Not content that should have been in the original release.

Fair enough charge for new cars, but not for upgrades from standard to premium.

It shouldn't have been in the original release, PD clearly stated that there would be 'standard' and 'premium' cars and also posted a car list on the GT website telling you which cars would be 'premium' before the game was launched. The only thing that PD are obliged to give us free through updates are the things that were announced and didn't show up in the final product.

Or patches that "fix" the game.

Upgrading a standard car to a premium car is a perfect function for paid DLC. For one thing, it doesn't split up the online community like tracks would. And, it doesn't give the people who are willing to pay an advantage, as entirely new cars as DLC would. ALthough I wouldn't be surprised if we see that at some point.

But these cars are already in the game. All the paid for content would do would give a little extra enjoyment to those who want to use the cockpit view or photomode.

I am curious, if this is true, about how they plan to roll them out, how many cars per dlc, etc... and what the price will be.

I agree with the sentiment that any standard models upgraded to premium should be free. I dont want to be paying for a Veyron premium when I should have had one in the first place. Forcing us to pay for content that should have shipped with the disc and giving us car packs that consist of wholly new vehicles are fundamentally different.

Haha, that is the genius of Kaz and GT5 - Addiction. Everyone overlooks so many annoying flaws because gameplay is brilliant and challenges are truly endless. Like a good drug dealer, they treat us bad, backhand us when we mouth off, and overcharge for extras, but they provide so much good stuff we will come back for sure!

On topic, how about selling some of those platinum and stealth cars to us poor guys, why bother with anything besides the cream of the crop?

I think you're metaphor is closer to a pimp, not drug dealer lol :D

I wonder how many of the people complaining about "purchasing" DLC for GT5 actually "purchase" Xbox Live?

Anyways, if you don't want anything with a (insert your currency here) sign attached to it, don't buy it. No one is forcing you.

Sorry but that was your fault for not at least trying the game beforehand...

GT5 is the only game I will buy a DLC for, I bought a ps3 only for GT5. I'm looking forward to drive new premium race cars, I will pay €€€ for that, I'm just waiting they create them, I hope soon and I don't care if this mean addiction, better be "addicted" to the game than real drugs! :D

iRacing is a monthly fee to play the game. Then you pay to take licence tests and open new tracks. Pay for new cars and new tracks. At the end of the year, you own none of it. You basically rented it.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!
When you purchase a license to an iRacing car, you own it forever unless the license is discontinued.
Same with the tracks.
There are also no license tests.
There are LICENSES, but not license tests.
And you don't need a better license to gain use to another track, only another car.

Get your facts straight please.
