Hey guys, the #7 iRacing car is racing again today, currently 9th.

Edit: In case anyone cares, the 7 is now 4th with 13 laps to go in the Nationwide race at Iowa.

Did my first Grand Touring race today, the Jetta feels really odd! Not used to FF I guess. Came 3rd overall.

It really is! The balance is a bit exaggerated but it is a whole different approach, fun car to drive if it only had a real 2.0L naturally aspirated 4cyl high output race engine it would be awsome and I bet you much more people would drive it!

Would also be a lot better if they ran it longer throughout the day. What's wrong with running it all day long? Also, no races on Sunday or Monday? Joke...

Not really, I can understand where you're coming from. If you realise that real-life racing drivers use iRacing for driver training, that drivers use the same braking points that they do in real-life, then you get to understand how realistic it is.

I would personally say that GPL is harder, but that's down to the cars, not the simulation; you have 400-500bhp cars with such skinny little wheels, whereas iRacing has lower amounts of power in comparison, especially in the lower classes. That doesn't stop it from being tricky, just easier and more predictable. I would really recommend getting a wheel for it.

Thanks DG. I have a wheel, but am 3000 miles away from it due to my travels. :sly: I may be wrong, but I heard that Jackie Stewart once said that GPL was pretty much spot on. Which makes that crash I had on the Nurburgring even more scary.

I have been interested in Iracing/Rfactor type sims for a while now. I'm still on edge a little as I don't have a computer anywhere near good enough to run it, but I may pick up a mid range machine about 6 months to a year after rfactor 2 is released. That way, I can join the "online sensation" and not have to spend too much money(as I'll have to buy a sky subscription too).

I'm not too sure about which one to go for. I've believe I read that Rfactor is the best for F1 type mods as I really want to race f1 cars/le mans cars/indy cars and even some good old CART/Champcar/whatever you want to call it. My final decision will be made based on the quality of the mods for Rfactor2 or Iracing.

Sorry for talking so much about Rfactor in the Iracing thread, but can you advise me which one is best for me?

Sorry for the double post, my gtplanet for android app isn't showing my post, so I can't really edit it.

Ive spoken to Takuma Sato a few times since I know him quite well, he thinks the the indy car in iracing is spot on, and that before the ntm that was released a few weeks ago. We now have le mans cars too. More US ones but they do count.

There shouldn't be any mods as the service is all run by them and under there supervision. The only mod in aware of is custom paint which iracingallows because they aren't really disturbed by it.

My original post since it didnt show up

The game is spot on, I use all the same reference points as I used in real life on the game.

And for the jets, my friends that have raced in the real series in seasons passed say the the car is almost spot on.

As far as I know there are no mods at all for iracing so if that's important to you then not that.

Ahh... Guess I need to speak to the rfactor guys then. Thanks.

Thanks. I read all the testimonials on the Iracing website the other day. Was strange that they listed Scott Speed as former f1 driver, nascar and indycar, but they made no mention of Taku's F1 experience. He did get a podium after all.

And I met Takuma Sato at the Toronto Indy. Seemed like a very nice guy.

Yeah, I helped a lot with his with you Japan campaign, and still am. I got to go in his garage at indy for an hour or so. Super nice guy, gave me a lot of advice on my own career path.

Wohoo Top 15 of Ford GT´s at Silverstone ;)

Lap of a 48.8, hopefully i will touch 47´s with a better setup and cleaning up my driving some.

Hey hampus, love the lap- you fast guys make it look so simple! I'm not too far off your time but I seem to be struggling mid-corner as the car just doesn't seem to want to turn... Any suggestions on changes to the setup to help it turn mid corner?

Trailbraking is very important.
I´m not doing it much in the video above but that´s because the tires had enough grip to "save" me and stay on the line.
You really have to master the trailbraking to extract the most out of this car.
Really gentle trailbraking but also not too gentle as it will go wide then.

The tires last for 1,5-2 laps so either you take it easy on outlap then smash in two solid laps or you go bananas on outlap then do one solid run.
After that your tires are wasted for Qualifying pace.

Lovely lap Hampus, looks like the GT doesn't mind being set up stiff?

Gonna setup a thread looking at getting interest in a small GTP series. Gonna see how many people are interested and give some basic series outlines.

Have no idea :) i just drive, that´s all i know lol.

From what i feel in the car, yea it´s pretty stiff, front suspension was stiffened up yesterday and it handled that very nicely.

Well done Hampus! I don't like that car at all!! Can't stand it for more than a few laps, it's just stupid!

You need a setup Jav :) All cars are **** without them.
Except for maybe Mazdas but you can´t change much on those ;)

Then you have to figure out how to drive the car.
It´s rear-mid-engined so it demands a certain driving style to go quick in etc.

I got a very noobish question, I don't have software to unzip zipper files, therefore setups, so is there anyway to just see the adjustments and not download anything?

edit- Big ups to palindrome post numbers!

No you have to download the file and put it in your folder, then go into the game and acess the setup.

Not sure what setups you are downloading but pretty much all of the setups i downloaded does not require winrar or winzip.

But i would encourage you to get winrar in any way, it should be standard on all computers :)

Ok, thanks. I downloaded Madison's setups for the Australian V8 Supercars but I couldn't open them. :(
I then tried something else and it was zipped, too.

I'll look into winrar. 👍

I have a pretty decent setup using the guidelines posted on the FordGT forum, I shared it on a session and one of the guys said it cut .5 of his best time, it would be nice to try someone elses tune for some comparison... You think you could post it here?

Ok then if it´s good it´s your driving style that needs adapting, it´s a very tricky car this, trust me i had to re-learn how to approach corners with this in order to go quick..

Try this one, it´s still far from optimum but it´s good for 47´s if you nail a lap perfectly.

Question for those with a single monitor setup: What FOV distance do you guys use?

I was reading about the ingame FOV calculator iRacing has and decided to try it. It set my FOV to 45º. That's a very drastic change considering I had it on 104º previously.

Did a few laps with it to try it out and it feels really strange. I think it will give me a headache because the image moves a lot more now.

I think with all single monitor setups it recommends 45. At lest it seemed that way when I played around with it. I use 55 to 60 but running the gt series I might back up til I can see the mirrors better since the spotter sucks.

iRacing FOV doesn´t really "work" with one screen.
Sure it calculates the proper distance but you still only have one screen.

My advice is to lower FOV to the point of where you barely see the rev-limiter.
If you for some reason manages to only listen to the engine and smack in gears then go even lower.

It works just fine with one screen. You can use shift [ or ] to adjust the tilt, so you can see the tachometer. If your sitting in your car and stick a frame the same distance from your eyes and same size you use in the game what you see through the frame is what you should see in the game.

You can always move closer to your monitor.
