That's awesome Jav! Vettes are so popular now they may almost overtake HPD.

Went and test drove the new Star Mazda. Feels like a Skippy with more grip and downforce. Feels very good. They've done a great job

Progression!

Now LRP I can get flat 1 min. Sub 1 min is soo close I can taste it :D

2nd race for me, came in 2nd with 0 incidents. Pretty darn stoked about this!

I wouldn't mind a review of the new car. Or any of the new cars that you don't get with the basic membership.

Here are my pertinent reviews.

Lotus 79 - Ridiculously awesome then you crash.

Radical on OTM - Awesome then you crash.

Radical on NTM - Awesome then you crash and don't know why.

Today, I finally won my first race. It was a 20 lap race on Lime Rock in the Mazda Cup. I started last and reached 5th after some of the first lap accidents. Then I slowly moved to third, just as the leader pitted. Unfortunately, the leader spun on the last corner of the 9th lap, gifting me the 1st position. I know it wasn't the most exciting race, but I just needed to share with you guys. The funny thing is that I did a race one hour before, and finished last 2 laps behind everyone lol.

Sorry if this is the wrong topic for this, I just had to tell it :sly:

What lap times are you getting?

My best so far is 1min flat and I can average 1.02 for the 20 laps with 0 incidents (i.e. not pushing hard).

My best was 1.00.2something, but my 2 averages tonight were 1:01.299 and 1:01.311 normal pace(not too fast, nor slow). In a race I did last night I averaged 1:04.014(I was stuck behind a slower car and not being able to overtake, because he was always blocking me).

Thinking about what to race in later. Mustang or Ford. Ford would be good because I am in Australia but I feel the numbers probably won't be up there - also theres only one series for it. Mustang has 2 series and given that its American, I will probably find more racers.

I'd advise looking at how popular it was last season. Most series above Class D kind of have participation problems aside from Star Mazda and Prototypes & GT. V8 is on the OTM so many don't want to invest a ton of time into a car that will most likely get rebooted shortly and cause all of their setups and experience to go up in smoke. Note, the uncanny aliens will relearn a car fast but for many others it can be a big shock going from OTM ----> NTM. I'm still not used to the oval cars on the NTM. Just cant fathom how to get around an oval fast anymore. Its going to take me bout 400-600+ laps to get good again. Before NTM in Legends I was hittin' podiums and coming in just a tad bit behind the leaders

you know what- I was bout to add something silly. Basically was going to say I can still get around an Oval quick in an Indy car. but who cares that car is still on the OTM. After it gets 'rebooted' I wont be able to toss it into a turn anymore either

[How to determine if a series will suit you]

Anyway! This is how you determine if something will work for you. Look at last season's stats. Next, look at the 'times' races occurred. You should be fine in V8 like swifty says due to Austrailian time zone. But thats just a wild guess. I'd bet money the other series with the NTM will see more business tho and steal some customers from V8 that's not in that time zone. Also! Factor out super-popular tracks like Watkins Glen (cause it practically doubles traffic for any series due to ease of learning and fun times). Look at how the series does over the long haul.

Guys I got some pretty good setups for the Riley by Sergio Rodas and Michael Melvin. I was able to get a 1:05.084 and those guys were doing low 04s with Sercio doing a 04.12x at the very end on those setups! If anyone wants to give them a shot let me know and I'll send them over!

Your not a God your a Legend! Appreciate the info. How do I access last seasons stats?

Well I thought about your comments and I think this is how I am going to tackle my iracing career:
1. get out of rookie
2. D class, get a Mustang. Fast track to C
3. C Class/D Class, keep racing the mustang until Ford V8 is on NTM.
4. Ford V8 on NTM = start racing V8
5. Long run B Class = HPD.

Thats pretty much the cars I want to race and the progression in line with licence etc.

I have also done a spreadsheet to download all the tracks and worked out for the series I want to enter, which track gets used the most and I'll buy those.

Another great race in the MX5 in at Lime Rock. Started 8th choosing not to qualify as not enough time. On the grid this time. Surprisingly there was no turn 1 incident everyone went through cleanly. From my vantage point in 8th the field ran really close together. Was able to pass for 7th while simultaneously being attacked from behind. Person behind me went wide trying to get underneath me. Then 4th and 5th seemingly had a huge crash in the middle of front straight of all places. Made pass over the new 4th place holder and finished race with him breathing down my neck 2.1 seconds back!
Throughout the race i thought tires were wearing.....clicked the tire life meter and it said 99%. Clearly it was all in the mind which caused me to slow up a bit, or atleast make me think I was going slower..+.12Sr +.36iR.
Still dont know how the other guys are doing 59.3s...I broke the 59 barrier three days ago in a test session prior to a race but ever since then havent been there. Getting super close at a 1.00.1.

You can view a previous season by clicking on Series->Past Seasons. Next scroll down til you find the event you're keen on like V8 Supercar. Next, select a past season then click on 'results'. Now see if you can find some past races. I believe it will auto-convert into your time zone too.

Madison Down (mad) on these forums is the V8 superstar / champion. Try sending him a friend request perhaps too

Lastly, there is also the Dashboard which is helpful to schedule races. People dont use it much *however* it is useful to plan out races in Class C+ series cause they happen less often then Class D due to longer race lengths, etc. Plus, if you see more than 1 guy register for a future race thats a decent indicator that it will see some business at that time.

These are the tools I use to figure out when a race will most likely go 'official'.

Note, a popular track like Watkins Glen or a free track will almost always have a bunch of people 👍

You guys are doing great btw! I always love reading recent race stories. Hopefully I'll have some of my own to share this weekend. I'm having some downtime due to the new build changes and my clubsport brakes might be having a load cell issue. So I'm back on my t500rs trying to get used to stationary paddles and no load cell again til I resolve my CSP issue

Hey guys, don't know if you knew this site existed but it has info on participation for all series. Really helpful!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting super close at a 1.00.1.
edit lol

do you guys think iRacing will ever have a "12 hours of Sebring" or "Petit Lemans" with dull race distance 12 and 10 hours. With driver swaps? Im in! Promise i ll keep it on the road haha.

I still do not know what it is like to actually were the tires down.Legends and Mazda hardly wear at all. What does it feel like?

Nice story Blaze. Your very gutsy to start from the grid in the rookie series. I always start from the grid in the Rookie series. Jus not worth pain.

Officially, maybe on the near future when they get the day/night transition up and running. Now for leagues/hosted racing you can pretty much expect it!

Now, for the official series there's the 120 minutes of sebring and the Petit LeMans wich is 1.5hr.
For worn tires there's no drastic difference, it's very progressive and you'll go trough a tank of fuel way before your tires are gone so you never notice a big difference. Just the way it's supossed to be!

I'm running the Mustang this season. Just a heads up, Mustang participation in Grand Am is really low. Mustang Challenge participation is really good though. I think its generally that the DP drivers get too aggressive passing the Mustangs and it often ends in wrecked Mustangs.

Edit: Ran a 59.x in the MX5 in a race earlier. I can run pretty consistent 1'00.2s though. Still learning the NNTM. Just looked at the World Records and apparently that was a dirty lap, my fastest legal lap is a 1'00.071, which gives me 36th fastest in-race lap this season. :D

Edit2: Blaze, you're feeling the tires getting too hot, not wear. They're not nearly as bad as they were on the earlier NTM, but over halfway through the LRP races I can tell they're falling off.

Good call . Front tires getting too hot causing car to want to under steer. Yep again IRacing is too awesome for me to comprehend lol.

Ran a 59.884 in a race just now. 27th on the World Records leaderboard.

About the tire heat, when I started iRacing I realized I was overdriving the tires and adding more steering angle than the tires could cope with. Start turning the wheel back to center as early as you can. Tire wear isn't really realistic at the moment. Someone ran some testing at Daytona and I think after an hour and a half or something the tires had only worn about 15-20%. It may have been longer. But since you can refuel and get tires simultaneously there's no reason to not take tires when you have to refuel. But fueling is what you'll have to plan to pit for.

Cheers for the mustang tip! Where are you checking these world records?

Whats the problem? I have fixed my CSP's so much I can do it blindfolded now.

World Records are under Stats>World Records. Be sure to sort it by the current season, else you'll be comparing to different physics. So 2012 Season 1.

About to go to bed but I joined the MX5 quali session and finally picked up a 59.702, that should be a good for the first few positions of most races I think. The car is definitely still a little faster on the first few laps (I set this time on the first hot lap with fresh tires).

It might just be me, but I was messing around in a test session the other day seeing how the NNTM behaved during oversteer situations, purposely pitching the car sideways and trying to recover. 1) that's easier. 2) there seems to be a lot more control on grass now. I purposely flung it off the outside of a few turns and I was able to keep it from spinning more than 90 degrees. I don't think I was able to do that before.

Had my first two races with the HPD yesterday. First one ended at T1, lol. I started on P2 and as I moved to the inside curb of T1 the P3 driver touched my right rear end, spinning my car and taking us both out of the race. -100+ iR for that...

Second try was much better, I started on P5 but I think P4 didn't make it to the grid. The three front drivers were faster than me so I was just trying to keep a decent gap from the guys behind me, which I did (about 4 secs). Then with 2 laps to go I managed to spin the car, all by myself, and hit the wall. The HPD is very fragile so it was race over for me.

Still, the car is very fun. Too bad the fixed series doesn't have races every day. Think I'll try the Star Mazda today.

Meh..I am at a loss of what to do for Class D and Class C racing now.

Mustang - not much participation during Aussie peak times. Some here, some there, not every night
Ford V8 - Great participation on Monday and Sunday, but I don't like being tied down.

Not much difference between the above two. Mustang I could strike it lucky some nights and not some nights...Ford V8, I 100% know for certain the race times for Sunday and Monday but every other night there will not be any races...I guess this is good in a way as it allows me to tt and get to know the tracks before a race but still being tied down.

Skippy's participation is off the charts (but I hate open wheel) why on earth are they so popular? I thought they were really hard to drive etc. Am I missing something with the skips?

All depends Swiftwilly. ;) Ford V8 has massive participation on 2 nights as you say but the racing quality you get is absolutely first class. That is definitely where a lot of the best Australian sim racers are (Obviously missing a few but most are in the V8).

As for other series. Skippy series is normally pretty competitive in Aussie time zones, tricky car to drive at first but very enjoyable once you get used to it. The way it slides and the lack of aero is the reason people enjoy racing it. It's like watching Formula Ford racing on TV here in Australia, always passing and always side by side racing and awesome fun assuming you can trust the drivers around you.

One of the reasons I prefer open wheel racing is because I use a one monitor setup, which might make the FOV pretty narrow in stock cars.
