So this is where you've been hiding. You young Sire, are a beast on iR 👍 Perhaps you can lend me your old skateboard so i may learn to be as fast as you?

Hey DK, long time no speak mate. Off memory you were the one that first got me into PC sim racing with rFactor talking me through the setup process over 2 years ago now! Ever since then, haven't looked back really.

Skateboard has disappeared now mate! I've actually got a wheel mounted to a table now!

Mad's a girl. ;)
I loll'ed.

Just finished the most tense, pressure filled iRacing event of my life! 20 laps at Lime rock in Mazda Cup. Started in 4th place. Start was tight and clean from everyone. Side by side in the 1st corner first I dropped a place on corner entry then i gained it back on corner exit. All in T1!. 1st place(this guy from France was in another timezone in more ways than 1... He was doing 58's. The real battle was right behind him! Me sitting in third position now, 2nd place seemed like he was getting away. Meanwhile 4th place right behind me was piling the pressure on. The gap behind me was only at 1.4 seconds and dropping by 2 tenths each lap. I responded and was closing the gap to 2nd place which had originally gone out to 2.0 seconds running some quick high 59's trying to keep 4th place in check! By lap 13 I could tell 2nd place was feeling the pressure of not only me in 3rd but also Devin in 4th place closing in. Suddenly he started missing apexes and after a great run out of the last turn to get alongside, I made a sweet late braking move on the inside to capture 2nd place. It wasnt over. Devin in 4th place capitalized on the opening and he fell in behind me sending 2nd place back to 4th in 1 corner! Devin was pushing extra hard. At one point he was able to get a fender alongside me going into T4 the fast right hander but discretion being the better part of valor lifted to avoid contact. All the while 4th place was sniffing around waiting to pounce on any mistakes from either of us. That allowed me to escape to the tune of 1.2 seconds as Devin struggled to fight off 4th place after getting a poor run out of the last turn on lap 16. Still not over. Devin put in some storming laps to close to within passing distance on lap 20. going into the last turn he made a look on the inside but was way too far back to ever make the move. I had got an excellent run out of the last turn to hold off and get 2nd place.(So good infact that i recieved a [x1 Off track]...My only incident of the entire race!

Is anyone else considering running the GTtouring cup tommorow at 7:15pm est?

Sounds great Blaze! The quality of racing in this sim is unmatched! Sure there are some excellent drivers on the different GT5 leagues we run here on GTP, but GT5's physics just doesn't provide for this kind of racing.

almost C class now. That fast track thing is awesome...BUT I have realised one issue with iRacing. If you are outside the US, you really need to think twice about purchasing this. Looking at what series I want to race, I find myself more dictated by participation rates as opposed to the car I want.

For example, I want to race the Mustang really, but nothing in Australian peak times. In between D to C class, I HAVE to choose V8 and Skip. Now I don't like open wheels and I don't like the participation rates of the V8, pretty annoyed by this to be honest.

iracing really need to pick up the subscriber rates.

Meh even though I have troubles with the Skip I'd pick it over the Mustang. Plus Skippy is on the NTM. Mustang I believe is on the OTM

nice! have you been saving your replays on the iRacing service? If so, you should put together some vids of your races and put them in the vid thread (if you have not done so already).

I agree with Patrocles I enjoyed reading that story. Sounded very exciting! Congrats on a podium finish :dopey:

It felt really good when I got my 1st road podium. I really had to work for it. It was in Grand Am Rolex at Phoenix Road-Oval. Most anyone hates that roval and they didnt understand how to take care of their tires. I drove fast but safe. Most of my competition wrecked themselves hard on the walls. Was great fun, had a perfect finish too (0 incidents) and earned a ton of SR since that was bout an hour long race

I really like the HPD but the races are crap. Rolling starts are a mess and some Ford GT drivers being lapped don't want to give you room to pass them. This becomes specially frustrating because the Ford GT and Corvette are faster than the HPD on straights but they're much much slower on corners.

Out of the four races I had with the HPD so far there was just a single good one, and that was the one in which I spun alone with two laps to go. The other three ended before lap five because of other drivers. FFS, there was a race that someone ruined my car before the start line!

Yea, the Mustang and Ford both on OTM. But I am not being left with much choices because everything else there simply isn't enough participation.

You cannot avoid this issue, it has to be a down side to iracing. I still love it, but I would love more racers. Anyway I will give the Skip a go and hope participation levels pick up in the future.

Yeah HPD is fragile as a feather. Rolling starts are awesome but sometimes people make mistakes which can be frustrating cause it shouldnt be that hard to get to T1 and survive.

Be careful trying to race at Watkins. It attracts *everyone*. Dont ever judge a series by Watkins Glen or a free track. You might be on the road with a lot of inexperienced drivers just trying out the series. Like yourself, they are probably just trying to get used to multiclass racing.

There are some turns, even at Watkins Glen, where it's just not a good idea to be sitting alongside the GT car. Yes, it can feel like an eternity has passed by watching a GT car get through a turn and you can lose some precious seconds. But that's what I do.

so if they are not giving room they might not want you in that corner beside them. since you're just starting out in MC series I might recommend using a mic to broadcast to the GT driver your intent. Thats what I used to do. Now its very natural too me how to deal with them in most cases.

In the practice sessions though I only observed one specific turn a Ford GT didnt want me anywhere close which really sucked cause an HPD can take it full throttle, no brakes. I havent raced that track yet in the HPD but I am not sure what I'm going to do. Cause in a race I'm not going to want to stop and watch the ford gt make love to that last corner (T10 it looks like on map) before the final turn. I want to take it full 100% gas so I can catch the slipstream for the next lap. I hope they slowdown a little to let me by!

Im jealous....:grumpy: After reading and watching some videos, I will have iracing soon, how soon is hard to tell. Any tips for a noob on computer set up?

How do I get a replay from iRacing to YouTube? I don't know what to do with the file. Is there a converter or does it need to be captured?

Hey! I know you'll love iRacing! Looking forward to some great racing with you! About the PC the main question would be, how much would you want to spend. My PC costed arround $450-600 and it runs iRacing on the highest settings with no issues at all. My average FPS is on the 150 with low at arround 65 on pace lap(58 car grid on Spa) and high at arround 230 FPS.

@ Blaze, are we doing some GTCup tonight?

Have you tried the inracing news challenge? it's all free content so it's good for starting off.

I'm using the SRF, it's fantastic fun to drive and much more challenging than the MX5. The races are every 2 hours and if you get bored waiting you can do 2 MX5 races inbetween.

Damn! That was a good race, had a great 3 way fight for 2nd with the top 2 Solstices and Jettas right there in the mix! But stupid me forgot to put fuel in the car! Duh! Had to come in for fuel and dropped down to 8th. I catched up to 7th and on the last lap looks like there was a pile up that took out 4th place wich gave me 6th at the end of the race.
Numbers definitely seem to be up now with the Sol in the series, now we need more race days!

Jav, it was fun seeing you in that race....even though I never saw you. LOL.

That may have been one of the most frustrating races of my online career. First the dumb banking shoots you into the wall at the start, then I forgot how much fuel I had and spun the car at T1 - lap 1, fell back to last; made my way back to 4th and got clobbered at turn 1 on the last lap and had to be towed to the pits. The other driver didn't hit me intentionally but it still sucked.

That's racing. Truth is, it was still fun. :)

Also, for you iRacer's out there that race with 1 tv like me; how do you have a good feeling when someone is right next to you and how close they are? In GT5 I use the ground/panoramic view and I can alway tell when someone is next to me, and typically how close. In iRacing I feel like a horse with blinders, and I don't like to use the left/right view for fear of going off and receiving one of those dreaded 1X's.

Also I'm using 62% view, is that to close to the wheel maybe?

As much as I'd love triple monitors it's just not in the budget, and I'm half an idiot so I would probably never figure out how to get it all put together to work properly.

Thanks for any tips!

I saw you registered for the race and saw your name on practice, but didn't see you all race long either! Lol!!
For track awareness just gotta have faith on the other guy and leave enough room...

Good GT touring race! I kind sorta jumped the start then had to serve a black flag! Missed my pit stall the first time(rookie mistake lol). Came back in again to serve(stupid pit tried to give me fuel lol. Why doe it default to filling up?. Then just pushed till the end alone on track the entire time. this time Matt Plumb was in my race!

Remember, in multi-class racing it is not the slower car's job to move out of your way. It is their job to hold the racing line while you make the pass. Occasionally someone will move over completely, but that actually can be more dangerous.

As for figuring out where the car is next to you on a single screen you can do like real race car drivers do and quickly glance over there it you can set your virtual mirror to be able to tell where they are.

Hmm, I've never messed with fuel loads and have never run out in a race... Does it default to full, it have i just been getting lucky?

Fuel doesn't come into play unless you are running longer than your standard race. Once you get into longer races, fuel strategies become very important because you'll be making multiple pit stops (just like real life! :) )
