Netbook? Absolutely not.

Also, just found the 1'41s I was looking for. Spent quite a lot of time tweaking setups, then switched back to baseline and found a few tenths in just a couple laps. Made a few minor tweaks to tire pressures and dampers, got another tenth or so. Then went from 1/16" rear toe in to 1/16" rear toe out and magic happened. Best lap of 1'41.695 now. Hopefully I can pull off something similar in qualifying tomorrow.

Ah so thats why I keep winning (3 in a row now). My qualifying time always puts me in one of the middle splits, so I avoid both the fast guys who set a qualifying lap and the fast guys who deliberately didn't qualify. I need to re-qualify as my race times are several tenths faster (Winning is fun, but if i'm in the wrong split they're empty wins). My best win was the one where there was a guy on my tail the entire race, but the two afterwards were won by 15-25 seconds, I barely saw anyone else after the first lap. I'd rather have to battle for a podium than do a Sebastian Vettel and just walk away with it.

I thought the splits are determined via your iRating. Which naturally as you win should increase therefore putting you in the higher splits giving you better competition.

You're probably right. My iRating isn't shown yet as i'm a new member but i'm sure on Monday when I rank up it should put me in a higher split if that is the case. Everyone in the split above had a faster qualifying time than me IIRC.

EDIT: You are right I think, the general trend in my split was 1200-1500 iRating whereas in the split above noone has lower than 1500.

What made me think otherwise was when watching a video from insidesimracing that showed qualifying for the 2.4 hours of Daytona, where they were split by qualifying time. I guess it works differently for regular races.

Never really run a special event yet, hoping to this year though. Some are determined by qualifying time, yet some are iRating. Rule of thumb I suppose is a weekly scheduled season race is iRating, whereas specials could be quali time.

First time using the Nixim mod! Its great! The two things i actually did was
1) put the brake spring in the g27 gas pedal (excellent decision)
2)replace the brake spring with the nixim mod.

As for the gas pedal its brillint now. It is making partial throttle application a breeze as i can hold my foot any where along the gas pedal axis. Whereas before any sort of input and the throttle was straight to the floor.(the orginal spring for that is very flimsy)

For brakes they are 100% improved. So much easier to brake and not lock up in the Mazda. After 15 or so laps I knew exactly how hard to push(or how much the pedal was pushing back) in order to brake without the lockup.

Takes iRacing to another level now that i can focus on lines etc rather than if i will make it through the next brake zone..

Man, I really wish someone would come out with a brake mod for the T500RS. I know I'm getting hurt in both my braking and shifting. The things I read about the brake mods tell me I could shave some time off for sure.

John Bodin is making a load cell mod for it. I usually used my t500rs with my CSPs though.

I came across that thread on iRacing and the technical discussion within the thread totally lost me. I'm not afraid to admit that I'm a total Moran when it comes to computers and electronic stuff. I was hoping for more of a simple plug and play mod, but I just may have to get a set if CSP's, then mod them (if necessary).

Coming from GT the hardware was simple, I used my DFGT for years, with one screen. Now I'm tempted to mod my brake or upgrade the pedals completely and move to multi screens. iRacing is a sickness for sure. :)

I guess I'm going to have figure this stuff out sooner or later because there are so many neat mods and add on's that compliment the sim.

Cheers!

Yeah there are a lot of options. Initially I gained a big jump in my times when I switched to CSPs. Used to have the brake vibration feature turned on via Stephen's CSP plugin for iRacing. But then once I got more comfortable with driving w/o ABS I got better. I can now put up similar times using T500rs brakes. But I still prefer CSPs (load cell). I hear CST brakes are the rage as well.

Here is that Skippy lap from that replay I uploaded earlier this week as promised. I decided not to pursue Skippy at this time cause I'd like to finish my first Prototype & GT season (last season I focused on completing my Grand Am Rolex Division Championship so only had time to do a few races in the HPD). I've already invested a lot of time learning the HPD so don't want to piss that all away. But Skippy is a super fun car that I hope I'll have time to take into practice sessions here & there after I've met my weekly goal for my HPD race

I can't do Oulton Park in the Star Mazda, car is too twitchy for me.

I just purchased Oulton Park last night but had no time to boot it up yet. I'd love to run that track on the Star Mazda or Indycar. I have all the road tracks now I believe. Just missing VIR and Zandovoot but I don't think I'm interested in purchasing either anytime soon.

Btw Jav any plans to run Indycar at Road America this weekend? You did really good last season I saw. I only had time to run it once last season but couldn't quite figure out how to crank more speed out of the indycar. If only I had time to invest 200 laps into indycar at a track I could probably be more competitive in it

I finally topped the timesheets in a practice session time in the MX5 at Okayama with a 1.01.8 not saying much against rookies lolol..but only 1 sec off this season world record. Brake mod is a dramatic improvement. It became easier to brake alot later in a corner! I felt like I was on rails.

I've heard nothing but great things bout that brake mod. Congrats!!! That's a really excellent time.

I just realized I had been running with the Roadster..So im going to try the Cup Car and see if it goes faster.
The right hand drive of the roadster really bugs me at Okayama... I keep putting the entire left side of the car on the grass and wondering why the wheel starts shaking :dunce:.

editL tried the Cup. I can feel that it has more grip. but now the LHD is putting me in the grass. Center drive ftw lol. . In the Cup it went 1.01.7 a tenth faster than the roadster. but based off of its alot faster. Are the brakes are so much better on the cup car? or is it just me?

That's what I think I'd like to do next season. Just go back to Rookie (but in Ovals) and just focus on hitting top times with it again. That's what I love bout Rookie; you get to practice and practice on the same 2 tracks. I farmed a lot of good iRating doing this but then I got promoted to Class D to Late model cars which is just wayy too much for me to deal with :scared:

I might give Street Stocks a try too.

Eventually I'd love to hit Indy Ovals.

Cup and Roadster do seem to handle differently (ought to compare their setups I guess), but a significant reason for the Cup being faster is the six speed I think.

@livemusic, that's a very good vid. Too bad I cant see the brake inputs though. I wish skippy had a modern dash like the HPD. That way I can see your gears, etc
I'm pretty sure you can see brake input if you leave the iRacing dashboard (space bar) on.

@live, in my video I left my space bar on so the inputs are visible. I would ask for a rpy file so I can take a gander at your inputs. But I'm so far away from being fast at Brands Hatch in the skippy I'm not going to try.

Did I post this video before? Everytime I watch this vid it makes me want to hop into a skippy. Such a fun, challenging car

* Note: This is not my vid

I just heard that the Roadster was only better at LimeRock. The Cup feels so much better with the fixed setups in the Mazda Cup. It stops faster, corners better(it looser).

I went back at it in the DP at Daytona and immediately smashed my old record of 1:40 by a good second. I certainly wish that I could redo that race.

I'm not understanding you. The link I posted yesterday has my rpy file, it's from the same lap of the video I posted on the videos thread.

I think with this latest update to the NTM, the Cup is at least as fast or faster at Lime Rock as well now.

With the OTM it was, but now it seems the Cup is faster.

That makes sense, I always preferred driving the Cup anyways. :)

I can only do 1:45 at Brands Hatch in the skippy, I mess up if I try to get faster. Must be old age (51), I can't keep up with you youngsters. :D

nah that isn't bad. My PB is 1.42 but I average 1.44 - 1.45 for 15 laps
