I wish so badly that I could use headphones, but the majority of the time I need to be able to listen for my 1 year old son or my wife. Maybe as he gets a little older and more self-sufficient I'll be able to switch.

Just bought a decent computer so i will be signing up for iracing tonight. I am excited and a little nervous at the same time. I have been playing gt5 for a year+ so hopefully that helps me get a head start in the game.

How does iracing compare to gt5 online? Is everybody miked up during the races? Does iracing have a spotter(alot of blind spots in the cockpit)?

I keep reading the key to move up in this game is to drive clean to keep your safety rating up. Is your safety rating on only in "races" not practice? How does the safety work anyway? If someone rear ends me does effect my rating even if it wasnt my fault? If you slam a wall all by yourself does that effect your rating?

Thanks guys

When you sign up read the sporting code. It's the very first thing that is required. It will explain everything you just asked about.

Just got rear ended by the SAME somewhat faster driver two races in a row, once in the chicane and another time in the turn following the chicane. Both races I had pole position and he came from mid-grid with no qualifying. It took a bit of willpower not to bash him after the second time... Oh well. :)

I'm installing windows movie maker now. Once I figure it out I want to put together a highlight compilation of my races up to this point. Does anyone suggest a different program? I'm working with raw FRAPS videos.

If you are talking about the 1:45 GMT race last night, he took me out too. He was in front of me and went off in the middle of the chicane on the right turn. I was passing him on the outside before the straight when he flew to the outside spinning me. I'm pretty sure he hit you soon after. Then iracing froze on me when I got out of the pits which I've never had happen. So bad race for me. Oh well.

@homeslice47, welcome aboard! As noted above you'll want to watch the iRacing Academy videos, etc.

Brief anwser: iRacing is a no-fault system. So if you have an incident then everyone is accessed a penalty to their SR (safety rating). SR, etc is not in effect in practice sessions.

I use one of these:

The sound is good and since it's open you can still hear ambient sound.

On another note, the Indy car is a freaking blast. Done a few races this week at Indy and it is amazing. 220+mph sitting 0.1 seconds off the guy in front of you. Makes me realize I probably could never do what they do in real life, just doing it on a game gets me nervous.

I really wish I wouldn't have neglected oval racing for so long. :(

Was browsing about in an app I downloaded on my phone called SimRace Essentials. A few news stories in there about iRacing signing a contract with Donington Park and a rescan of Silverstone. Also it was a little vague, but rumors are about a possible BTCC car being added in the future.👍

Ok! I'm sold! Just tell me the model number and I'll buy them right now. :)

THANKS!
I'm not sure if these are still sold as it's an old model, released in 2005 if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe you can find them at eBay, that's where I bought it a few years ago. The official name of the headset is Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset.

But if this model isn't available anymore there should be some similar product you can find.

There is this bonus credit promotion going on right now, buy 75 iRacing dollars and get 25 free. Seems like a deal to me. However I've a question, are these iRacing dollars exactly the same as when i use my credit card? If I do use the iRacing dollars to purchase 6 pieces of content I should have the 20% discount too right?

I use steeeseries Siberia v2's and I love them. They were cheap, and they work very well on all platforms.

I have had the v1's for about six years. They still work great.

As someone recommended to me, I also turned the engine volume down a bit so I can hear the tires better.

Yes, it was that race. Terry something was his name. Seems like a nice guy, fast too, but can't make a pass worth dog doo.

That would be awesome!! Hoping for the Hatford Integras!!!

That would be awesome. The Integra was one of the only cars I spent a lot of time in in GT5, and I like the BTCC. This would be a great combination.

They should put in the honda nsx, it would be nice to have a lightweight mid engine rear drive car. Also a honda civic group A race car would be awesome.

I have a couple questions about this I'm hoping I can get clarified

1. Do they have this very often, and is this as good a deal as there is? I likely won't need credits for at least 3 months and I don't want to buy them now then find out there is a half price sale this summer.

2. Can I use these credits to buy things that are on sale. For instance I've heard they put 1 yr memberships on sale for 49$ occasionally. Can I use these credits for that?

Looks great, Jav!

I just drove my first race at Mid Ohio in the GTC. 26 cars, 22 of them MX5s, 2 Jettas, 2 Solstices. From grid to turn 1 was a mess for me, I'm sure the rest of lap 1 was just as bad, but another MX5 got turned around right in front of me so I hit it and went off the track. Luckily I didn't get any real damage and I continued on from last place, worked up to 10th. Between the turn 1 wreck, several minor off-tracks, and another guy dive bombing two of us and leading to contact, I lost .17SR out of it all. I need to go farm SR in the Mazda Cup I guess.

wow that's a great paint job. I'm entering in the HPD. I'd love to enter in the C6r but the low speed grip feels so off, shame since I heard it was great on the OTM

What setup are you using? I just tried Oliver Kreuer's V2 setup and it feels great! You can find it here:

I love the HPD but it's such a fragile car, add to that the fact that my irating is at an all time low wich means my split is gonna be full of HPD loonies trying to be a first lap hero! I'll pass on the HPD! C6.r it is! By the time the HPD's are laping me the loonies should've dropped out and I'll have to watch out for the less talented ones as they lap me...

thanks for sharing the link. I gave it a shot and it miles better than the fixed set although at this point I might just go with the HPD since I've had so much seat time with it this week on Sebring.

I definitely know what you mean with the lap 1 hero's though, I'm gonna hang back a bit before the green to give myself plenty of room should there be an incident (most likely will be)

Thank you sir! I really like how it came out, flows really well with the C6.R's lines.

It's a little unpredictable but they tend to do the buy credits, get free credits thing a couple of times a year. Personally I tend to take advantage of these when they appear regardless of whether I'm going to use those credits now - invariably when I want to purchase content there isn't any offer on. I have $125 waiting to be used in my account at the moment. :)

Yes, you can use those credits on anything including if they put up a 1 year membership offer for $49. So you'd effectively get 1 years membership for less than $49. iRacing can be far cheaper than it first looks if you use these promotions.
