So I missed pole on my split by .017, starting second and this grid is pretty damn close! Less than 1 second covering the whole 10 Vettes, 20 HPDs wich was making me a bit nervous and was surprised to only see 8 Fords. So the race starts and I quickly take the lead, lead the first 6 laps till I lock up and spin going into T7, so I sat in the inside and wait for the cars behind to go by, rejoin in 10th dead last in the Vette's field. Make my way up to 4th and this happens:

So, I limp it to the pits got full service and use my fast repair. Get back out on track and as I come back arround pass 2 Vettes that are sitting on the pits, then as 2 HPDs are laping me this damn moron totally missjudge his aprach and takes me out:

Taken out twice in less than 2 laps! So I got fed up of the BS and decide to call it a day! Casuality or causality that both guys that took me out are C and D license? I'm all for allowing everyone to run in the special events regardless of their license level, but this 2 guys clearly can't handle this cars and didn't belong in this split. iRacing needs to re-evaluate the way they make the splits for this special events, this season they've decided to go by times wich clearly isn't working. They need to either go by iRating or license level for the splits.

Jav, if you didn't lock up and spin out you might have avoided those guys. Just maybe.

I admit those incident sucks and I struggle with people like that too. They all say just keep racing to get out of your split and race incidents happen.

I guess this could be true because I have seen top split races and they are pretty damn clean given how big the pack is. Keep racing and move up in splits I guess. I need to do the same.

Perhaps, the bigest issue in this particular series are the HPD drivers. The problem is that the HPD makes you feel like a super hero but iRacing will turn you into a super zero in no time. If I hadn't spun i might have staid clear of the first guy, but the HPD guy was still gonna be out there waiting to crash into something or someone, look at the replay and you'll see there's a huge difference in braking zones, this guy clearly didn't take it into account.

Not really, this season I started on the top split and quickly fell down to where I am now. Just like Plate told me once, the top split can be a great place with very very clean racing, but it also is full of big egos and guys that will put you in a bad possition just so they can get past. The first week of this season was brutal to my SR and iR, I lost a huge chunk racing on Watkins on the DP and the Proto/GT series, and all the races were the top split.

all very valid points Jav.

I am surprised there were other cars than the HPD haha...

The Skip is sort of the same thing, my IR and SR has taken a beating by people who can't drive the thing. Can barely make it out of the split. Getting there though...slowly...

Yeah, all part of he game I guess. I still love it and will keep on doing it!

As do I, I just can't justify the cost of it all, I know I sound cheap, but for a casual racer like myself, $12 a month is a tad expensive.. I'm probably going to keep my membership for one more month, but after that I don't know what I'll do.. See you guys on track.

If you want an example of how being in a top split doesn't mean its going to be a good safe race, watch the last iRacing World Championship oval race at Phoenix. Felt like watching a a bunch of rookies race Legends.

Thanks a bunch Eric and Swift.

Placed 2nd in a Skippy race a few hours ago, and also got my first win @ LimeRock in the MX-5 Cup :D

Grats Isamu. Did you just start iracing? Because I heard you just got the A License and that is a huge fast track in a few weeks...

I won!I won!I won!:) I started on the outside pole and cleared the inside on the first lap and then on the second lap, 3rd spun 2nd and caused a full field pile-up. I was the only car to finish on the lead lap I think. (legends, my first win)

I just bought the mustang and the skip. The mustang feels good, the ability to powerslide sets it away from the mx5 and srf! However I'm still very slow in that car, not being able to go below 2 minutes at zandvoort. I've also tried the skippy for awhile, however I'm puzzled as to how will I make the skippy shift! Do I even use the clutch in the skippy? I want to have the most realistic experience and I wonder how the skippy shifts in real life...

you dont need the clutch in the skippy if you plan to shift on the limiter. You can also use clutch if you want. Depends on how you want to drive.

I don't use clutch in the skip. I shift on the limiter and blip on the downshift.

EDIT.

WOW

TAB Indycar Series on 17 March 2012 was the best ending ever. WOWWWW....

on glacier tv , watch it now!

Started my iracing career sat. with a pair of seconds and a 7th with no incidents in all 3 races(legend cars). I got my safety rating up to about 3.5 and I was extremely happy.

So i came back sunday thinking i would have the same luck and it was a disaster. Every race I ran i sunday there was a wreck in front of me and i got caught up in it. Anyway my safety is holding at about 3.5.

I've been playing this game for 2 days now and it seems like guys spend more time painting cars then they do practicing. I see these guys with awesome looking paint jobs yet they end up causing huge wrecks. More practice, less painting!

Yes sir my friend. Got yesterday in just under two weeks of racing in the service. Can't believe I waited almost a year and half
before I actually started racing in the sim. All all that subscription money wasted on browsing their forums for a year LOL

Go to iRacing's skippy forum board. There are several threads sticked to the top describing how to drive the car. It will answer every question.

Most people left foot brake in the skip. However, this is not realistic because the steering column is in the way (or something like that). Again, see the iRacing forum. It will tell you all the different shifting techniques.

I do left foot brake and rarely use the clutch. The only time you have to use the clutch is on the starting (if you want to get a good start that is).

About to embark on another 20 lapper at Limerock(epic course) in the MX-5 and hopefully get a better finish. Wish me luck :p

Arg finished 5th :/ On lap 2 I missed a shift that ran me into the wall on the 2nd to last turn. Had to pit, fell 2 laps behind :(

I'm keeping it for at least one more month, it's addicting and i've got the munchies for a win! :p

I wouldn't suggest you concentrate on a win so much, it'll end your race pretty earily with an incident to be honest...concentrating on top 5 is better.

The best advice I have ever received was to race within your limits, you'll have too many accidents if you try to do your PB at every lap. Over time I have realised something of this trend:

My optimal + 0.5 - 1 second = my PB. My PB + 1 second = my average lap time. Then I do a comparison re SOF results to see how I would place, if its good, I race, if not I keep at it or skip. I never compare my Opt or PB to the competition because thats just setting myself up for a fail.

Above is a rule of thumb that I use, may or may not be applied to anyone else.

I know some people here who have played for a while without a win at all. Especially after the Rookie class, the competition does get a lot stronger as all types of different guys race in all sorts of series. Like in Skip, you got D class to A class guys with iratings from all over the place - I know SOF will help even that out but its a big step up from Rookie class.

Good luck.

^Yup, if you try to hard, you are thinking too much which = a crash

In the mx5 cup car you can do 1:00's easy, but it's really hard to keep doing those without crashing at some point. That's why I take it a bit easily and the result of that is many clean 1:01's or 1:02's

That's about what I'm running, I've been going at a reasonable pace in my last two races and running fairly clean with only one minor off track incident which I quickly recovered from. Thanks for the tips guys, appreciate it. I'd like to work my way up to Grand-Am eventually, but I need more practice before I spend the coin to get there, because as you said the competition is much tougher in the higher license classes, which makes sense. Oh ya, doesn't the MX-5 cup switch to Okayami(or whatever it's called) tonight?

zedfonsie
Yup, it switches to okayama, the full course if I'm correct.

Okayama, I know it's 25 laps, not sure if it's the full or short version.

Im going for a 4.00 Safety Points right now so i can rank up! What are your guys Safety points for road right now?

And I like limerock way more than okayama.... :(
