Alright, going to vent a little here. I entered my first Cadillac race a few hours ago. I was aware of the fuel saving to pull off a no stopper, but I didn't realize you had to basically coast for 20 laps and short shift everywhere. I mean, we have to use this piece of 🤬 setup and now we must coast around on a Sunday drive to have any chance of winning.🤬:banghead: Well, at least at Mosport.

I really hope that the pitting in Caddy series was an oops by iRacing. Why do we need to pit a rookie car for fuel? We don't even pit in the prototype and gt cars.

Anywho, I like to race. Not coast around and run slower than I'm capable of. There's a time for saving fuel, tires, and what have you. But not the whole freaking race:banghead:

On a positive note, I did finish second with no incidents. Even had Mr. Shaun Cole in my race.👍 Wait, I may have had a 1x from warmup laps.

no kidding, I haven't had a clean race today, I think I'll stick with the GT since that's the only one that's been clean enough for me (although I have had a lot of incidents myself). I would rather wreck myself than take both of us out, so I've been getting a lot of 1x's for off track because people are incapable of passing at the right moment or actually racing one on one. I did a pretty clean mustang race but I still lost points from a 1x every other lap.:ouch:

Crazy SS race I avoided at lest 5 wrecks, it was crazy
how Do I post the replay link?

now rookie 2.67, I ran 1 GT race and I lost it all on my own in the second turn in the boot that uphill right turn and I don't think I finished, I spent 6 mins in the pits with 14 mins of optional left and I spun twice and quit and gained .01 SR from class c 2.14 to 2.15 lol

Lol

Luckily, second race that I ran. All of the HPD's were very patient. No incidents. No drama. Race went really smoothly and no complaining from anyone. Why can't it always be like that? 102 points gained. Moved to first in division 3. 5th in all divisions. Gained .16 of my .70 SR lost back. So now I'm back up to A 3.62. iRating is up to 2236 now as well.

Got really lucky that my computer didn't shut down in the middle of the race. Forgot to plug in my laptop before the race. Was running with 5% battery when I exited the sim.

The fuel issue with the CTS-V will be fixed before the next round at Mosport in a few weeks. Pits will not be required according to Steve Myers.

Glad to hear that:tup:

Its been weeks since I had a race due to family stuff. Did a few laps and its still good :) Hoping to race hopefully next month.

Shaun is one of my friends and he often has open practices or hosted drives. Last time I drove with him it was the Prototypes at Daytona. He is a very nice guy and it is always a pleasure racing with him, truly one of the good guys. :)

If you run 18 laps at at 1'20-1'21 pace, your start lap at like, 1'26(?) you will have a 30-40s lead (probably greater) than someone trying to save fuel and have no trouble stopping for 2.1 gallons of fuel (takes less than 4.5s to fill that much). Run quickly into pit road, hit the speed limit right at the cones and turn the limiter on.

Maybe the next setup they use for it won't have the blown shock feel.

I should be getting iRacing on Tuesday. Any tips for negotiating the rookie series for road and oval?

Yes, start from the pits every time and avoid the big wreck! If a moron wants to race let him go! Chances are he'll crash and you'll get by once again! Use the mic when a lapped moron wants to race you!
The most important thing on the rookie series is gonna be survival and staying out of trouble so you can get out of rookie as fast as possible! Once you get to C license you can start relaxing and race!

Eric.

That was the problem though. The guy that beat me was running damn near the same lap time as I was and didn't pit. I was running high 20's to mid 21's and had to pit. I was trying to save fuel, but it just wasn't enough. I watched the replay from his cockpit view and the only thing that seemed to be different was he was short shifting all the way to 6th gear on the backstretch. I was doing that, just not to the extreme he was. I was also lifting a little early and running 5th gear through turns 1 and 2.

Well, hopefully its not like that when we go back to Mosport.:) I actually don't mind the setup all that much, but the fuel saving crap is a deal breaker. Its just not racing when from the green light you have to short shift and coast through corners.

Ok thanks! I heard it was a mess in the rookie series and kind of know what to expect. Can you enter more than 1 friend referral?

I'd say start from the pits if you qualify 4th or worse. And after awhile When you get the hang of it and the grid shows you in the back just get a semi-lazy start and you can avoid the big one if you learn to predict the crash pattern

Well that was disappointing. My first GT Challenge race (in a Ford GT) included a couple minor offs from brake lockup, then losing it in a slide at the chicane. That only sent me into the grass at high speed but hit a bump doing some major suspension damage, spending some 10+ minutes in the pits. Now with 25 minutes to go and a pretty steady hold on 4th place (out of 10 GTs), the rear gets loose on the turn after the chicane, I overcorrect and right into the outside wall. That's 15 minutes of towing and repairs. Last race for this week, too. I hoped to make up for the first one. Still looks like I'll finish sixth of the GTs, the rest have retired I think. Kept the former leader behind me for a couple laps until I ran wide and gave him the free pass. Its odd that I'm so far off pace regarding fastest laps, but really only about half a second slow for normal race pace. Hope I improve over the season.

Im sure you would make a great deal of money IRL pro racing circuits teaching people how to predict the "crash patterns". I have never heard this term before...

Haha that's nothing compared to me at Summit Point in the Mustang for the 1st time :dopey:

Didn't get around to running Late Models until just now. Took third and I don't really like Lanier. Now to see if I can finish a couple of Skip races to wipe out my last few failures.

I am not sure if racing the Skip is considered safe!

However the update has made the car more drivable.

Good advice you gave earlier Jav. I hope everyone has a smooth 2nd week this season. Last week was good for me on Road side. got lucky and finished 5th in the Star in my 1st race at Silverstone in a decent SOF (1700+ SOF race). After that I just played around with the Lotus 79 in some hosted & practice sessions. What a challenging car! Great fun but for now I will stick to the Star. 👍

Now I begin the process of learning Laguna Seca in the Star

You may mock, but it's true, especially in rookie series. Pro racing circuits have pros racing on them, so they can be expected to be fairly competent. Rookie series have a large proportion of less experienced or less skilled drivers, and as such you can predict with fairly good accuracy when and where incidents will occur.

For example, at Mosport there's a very high likelihood that you'll have people going off at corner 2 on the first lap, so you take extra care not to be on the outside line. With the Caddy, you also know that there's going to be some fool who will try and mash the throttle off the line and get it sideways, taking out a bunch of people. Simple stuff, but it can make a big difference to your outcomes if you change your racing style to suit the drivers around you.

I actually think that most of the time, you can analyze the situation and tell far before the crash actually happens. For me I just back off when I get into situations like that. Seems to work for me every time.

I agree that in some situations you can quite easily predict crashes and you can even develop a heuristic or schema to help recognize it in the future. You would be amazed how much you can learn by sitting mid-pack or even in the back of the pack and just watching how others race. You can predict their moves, you can tell if they are watching their mirrors closely or not, and you can surely tell when there is an impending wreck. I've honed this skill enough to where even racing a car I barely know with competitors much faster than me, I can normally still get a decent (5th or 6th) finish just by observing the moves that others make.

While I'm not 100% accurate in my predictions, I'm accurate enough to where I can prepare myself and miss whatever carnage is about to occur in front of me. I think accident avoidance could be defined as an art that you can master just like speed.

3M System software and data v2012.05.04.01

I do not own the V8 Supercar but would buy it if it got the NTM applied for some little fun on the side. Anyone has an idea what they updating? Motegi is the only track I see getting updated. Wonder what they doing...

i assume adding the new hands to every car. they shouldn't update the physics to much because a season has already started. but who knows seems we wont know till 2:30

However the update has made the car more drivable.

I meant to make up for some crashing/DNF/ragequits in previous Skip races, since it only counts the average of your best 50%.

So the Cadillac has an updated setup again. Downloading updates now, I hope they did more than just add fuel.

Edit: There are always release notes.

Edit2: New Cadillac setup is more than just fuel. Some of the things I noticed:

higher front and rear ride height (rear considerably higher than front)
front arb change from 2.0 to 4.0 (softer)
rear arb changed from 30 to 22 (stiffer)
camber looks lessened, but still too much
minimum tire pressure (20psi) on all four

Shocks look unchanged, it still hits the ground a lot, but it is definitely better.

Release notes:

Simulation:

Fuel Limiting in Hosted Session

- Fixed a bug that gives all cars the fuel limit that the first type of car has when initially simulator.

- Fixed the tech inspection hang-up issue for the Nascars.

Spotter

- Make the messages about damage only play when chattyness is set to high.

- Make the leader/pace position messages only play when chattyness set to medim.
