I did my first races today it went disastrous, my last race went ok i was running 2nd/3rd untill my engine blown up. I guess i need some practise on this.
Hello Maxitsu.
You joined in the "week 13" as they call it on iRacing.com It's the week between race seasons, but the way out of Rookie normally would be to use the Mazda cup, normally its on Lime Rock Park and Okayama short course. So my suggestion to you would be to get to know the car and those two tracks in a private session, then go to a practice session when you feel confident on the car and the track(s) and learn to drive among other drivers.
If everyone did this I bet being in a Rookie race wouldn't be that bad, but it seems that people never ever tried a sim before, just join the first race they find and it can be a mess out there.
So starting from the pit as very many people would suggest is a smart move as winning the race is not helping you get out of rookie. But avoid those messages that say Off track/car contact and lost control will make you advance into D-Class
I took a look on the grid before i decided to start from the pit, if I where the last car on the grid I just started on the grid, also the pole sitter might have a chance to get away with starting on the grid. But if your mid pack I would strongly suggest to wait until the minute is up and press it when it say you missed the start. In most cases half or more of the grid is going off or crash so be careful when you gain on those, they return to the track as if they where alone. Just be aware of the pit speed limit.. I got a bit excited one time and it ended up in a stop and go penalty
If you join teamspeak and I'm there I could be the extra spotter if you like, can be easier to avoid stupid incidents. I helped Hurley and when the car in front of hurley made it impossible to see the road because of a engine blow up I think he avoided the crash because I warned him about how fast he gained on him.
I also watched the "driving school" found under "Reference" and found it very useful. Recommended!
Cool to see you on this part of the forum mate and I really hope you find the sim fun and challenging and go ahead and extend your 1 month subscription.
