I did my first races today it went disastrous, my last race went ok i was running 2nd/3rd untill my engine blown up. I guess i need some practise on this.

Hello Maxitsu.

You joined in the "week 13" as they call it on iRacing.com It's the week between race seasons, but the way out of Rookie normally would be to use the Mazda cup, normally its on Lime Rock Park and Okayama short course. So my suggestion to you would be to get to know the car and those two tracks in a private session, then go to a practice session when you feel confident on the car and the track(s) and learn to drive among other drivers.

If everyone did this I bet being in a Rookie race wouldn't be that bad, but it seems that people never ever tried a sim before, just join the first race they find and it can be a mess out there.

So starting from the pit as very many people would suggest is a smart move as winning the race is not helping you get out of rookie. But avoid those messages that say Off track/car contact and lost control will make you advance into D-Class

I took a look on the grid before i decided to start from the pit, if I where the last car on the grid I just started on the grid, also the pole sitter might have a chance to get away with starting on the grid. But if your mid pack I would strongly suggest to wait until the minute is up and press it when it say you missed the start. In most cases half or more of the grid is going off or crash so be careful when you gain on those, they return to the track as if they where alone. Just be aware of the pit speed limit.. I got a bit excited one time and it ended up in a stop and go penalty :P

If you join teamspeak and I'm there I could be the extra spotter if you like, can be easier to avoid stupid incidents. I helped Hurley and when the car in front of hurley made it impossible to see the road because of a engine blow up I think he avoided the crash because I warned him about how fast he gained on him.

I also watched the "driving school" found under "Reference" and found it very useful. Recommended!

Cool to see you on this part of the forum mate and I really hope you find the sim fun and challenging and go ahead and extend your 1 month subscription. ;)

Bagged another 3rd, starting to get the hang of this. I've been playing all day (i'm not proud of it..) and have been slowly improving. They should call it Icocaine, because that's how addictive it is. The Miata is a fantastic little car.

Lol! Yeah! That's me on the top comment! Pretty happy about that! We will be playing arround with that function so we can have it down for our next championship wich is looking like Riley DP with Ford GT/Cadillac running one class using the ballast feature on the Ford.

Wow just make it next to impossible to decide which car to choose. :)

Hopefully they'll implement the standard system used on the official races and we won't need to own all the cars beign used. I know this feature was supposed to be implemented on the coming builds but I haven't seen anything since it was first announced...

Thx Erik. I started some races in a mazda on Charlotte's road course. For a newbie the Iracing website can be a bit overwhelming to find you way through it. So i don't know yet what races are good or not, i just went out for a first look. I used GT5 to compare the game since its the only sim-like racing game i have. I was looking for a sim racer but stores only offer games like Need for Speed. They were fun when i was a kid but they don't offer me what i am looking for. So I try Iracing becaus everyone is talking about it.
I run it easly on max graphics, but it does not come near GT5. Its good enough though. The driving itself is awesome. You have to drive in cockpit view but unlike GT5 yo have a big rear mirror and a spotter who tells you what happens around you. I am very much in love whit that. The driving comes really easy to me i only have to learn driving whitout lock-ups. i lost my car a few times to much on that. Seems there is no ABS :) At first i thought my steering wheel was broken  I had some problems to set up my wheel. Later on the day i will try to learn more about the game. It seems i like it but i saw some cars and tracks i want to have but they seem pretty expensive to me. :grumpy:

Using three screens plug the Motion Cockpit View plugin for adjusting seat height and position, I can use the optimal FOV and still see all the mirrors in each car. It's nice.

iCocaine! i like it!
:)

oh god, I was driving perfect, and got kicked becaus of maintence, couldn't they say it before the race. or even cancel the race.👎

Anyone know what they're tweaking, adding, adjusting for this season? I haven't heard anything, but I haven't been looking that hard either:) I just hope my setups aren't obsolete now.

Not sure exactly myself but been a lot of rumours about possibly Zolder shortly... Possibly Leagues system, flag men for starts, updates to NTM obviously, and new track shaders. That would be my guess. Zolder though, don't get your hopes up on that one....

Sounds good to me. Been a few seasons since we've just had a regular update. You know, without adding big content like cars and tracks. I wasn't expecting any cars or tracks this season since there hasn't been any news on them.

I've been on a month or so hiatus from iRacing and this thread for the most part. Good to see some new racers in here:tup:

Going to give Season 3 a serious run hopefully in one road series and one oval series. Thinking of the Silverado for oval side(maybe Impala A) and either my beloved Mustang or the Ford GT. I've barely ran the GT in anything and would like to get some use out of it.

I'm just waiting for the change log like most others. I can't wait to see what they do. Possible better support for the csw

There is a long list of updates for this build. Is this a new thing being able to update the game while down for maintenance? I dont think I have seen this before.

It sure is nice to atleast be able to update while waiting for the maintenance to be completed. I guess I never tried to log on while there was an update and the site being down.

Yeah just got done updating myself, is there a post about what the updates were exactly? Hopefully the servers will be updated by the time i get home from school, im so close to moving up in road and oval license's. Plus ive got some extra funds to buy a new car/track so im excited.

They never set a specific downtime for seasonal updates. I'd expect about 5-6 hours total, anyone know how long it's been down so far? When I got home about 3.5hrs ago it was already down.
