Why not just go for the Riley, Ford GT or Corvette then? You can easily get up to C this week on the GTC and then you'll be able to run the GT Challenge series or Grand Am! The racing in those series is some of the best you'll find anywhere!

I like GT cars though, I'm not huge into Open Wheel or stock cars, so that's how'd I'd like to progress. The Mustang also runs on a lot of my favourite tracks. Maybe I should just get the Mustang and Road America and see how I like it, then go from there?

I am the same I only race road courses and own all the tin top road cars except the GT and thats next on the list, but Im having to much fun in the vette to worry about it yet. I still race the mustang the most though. I dont think youll regret purchasing the mustang. The riley is also a great car as Jav stated with very good racing.

I was thinking that to, damn it :p

This is just a matter of personal taste and personal taste alone, but if I had known back then what I know now in iRacing I would have never bought the Mustang and used the GTC instead to get to C license and go straight into Grand Am or Star Mazda!

Guys, is it just me or have the track limits in general have become more flexible on S3?

I noticed that too at spa and the last turn at laguna seca

As for Mac's situation:
I'm probably with Jav that you should do GTC. However the mustang and V8 Supercar don't have the twitchiness that the others do and in a way it's tougher to drive but more forgiving on countersteer because it's not twitchy. I don't really like this new suspension model right now but it's a matter of practice and quite a bit of it. You know the MX5 well and can easily just jump in the GTC rather than practicing all week and getting only about 1-3 races in on sunday.

I ran a race in GTC the other day, used the Solatice. 2nd place with no incidents except a few off tracks.

That's one tough car to drive! I hate the gearing on that car, makes it such a slug! Probably a good startegy to use it as it is one of the least used cars and odds are you won't be racing any noobs, but then again you'll manage to find noobs in MX5s doing the same times as you on a car that dives on a very fine edge...

It is a tuff call because if you dont like the car you have basically wasted $15. The first car I bought was the Jetta and I hate the thing. Once a month I go back and try it hoping its gotten better only to be disappointed. I wish they had a test drive feature for iracing. Good news is though its the only car I regret buying.

I had the exact same thing! Every word is just how I feel as well!
Lets just hope the Civic will live up to expectations!

Ye I saw fatkrakr post that, even if I thought wrong, I'm not slow mate ;)

I hear ya then fast guy. I never said you were slow I was just trying to be helpful in stating how the race splits work for those that don't know. I love how all these new guys think they are the next Michael Schumacher.

Funny thing is I've never encountered any dirty drivers in the Solstice. I like it.

I didn't meant that kind of slow, I meant I'm not a slow learner. And notice the smiley man, I did not mean to be an a$$.

And even if I'm new to iRacing I'm 41 years old and I know by experience I will never come close to the fast guys. I'm just there to have fun and drive as fast as I can.

Thanks for being helpful, but I already understood it you see ;)

No worries. It's a forum, the place where misunderstandings are born. I probably should have been more clear in my post anyway.

How's the participation in the GT series?

I Can't check main website at the moment.

Wait your saying I'm not the next Senna? I knew there was something I was missing lol!

My issue is sometimes it's hard to check my ego at the start and just be slow. I know I'm not always the fastest but to be the guy just riding around to a degree is hard for me. Road side of things are little different than oval to me though.

Well tonight sucks, there arent any GT cup races available and im sick of the Mazda cup. I tried doing some oval, but again its just a big crash fest and i ran into 2 really annoying kids who would not stop talking the whole race. I havent been racing much lately because im tired of being handicapped by my laptop, but hopefully ill have a good pc within the next month.

Our first race in the Continental Endurance Sports Car Series is Saturday. 2.4 Hours of Daytona with the MX5 Cup and Mustang FR500S. Will be broadcast on www.GlacierTV.com and I believe the race start should be around 7pm eastern time.

Rules have changed a little to make use of some new iRacing features. For our inaugural season, all cars had a mandatory pit stop within the first third of the race. The lap number was determined before the race, and you had to come in for some kind of service, being stopped in your pitbox for at least 10 seconds. The MX5 can run the whole 90 minute race on about 10 gallons, so all we were doing was stopping whenever happened to be a good time to put 1.1 gallons of gas in, wait for the pit service timer to roll past 10, and get back on our way. Mustangs had a little different strategy, some would make a very late pitstop after the mandatory one for new tires.

Now we're using fuel capacity restrictions. MX5s are down to a 50% (6.4 gallon) fuel load, and I think Mustangs have about 60%. Both limits produce a 55-65 minute stint, so for the normal 90 minute races we have a lot of flexibility in deciding when to pit.

We had a practice session tonight where I ran my first laps with the fuel restriction. From leaving the pits to coming down pit road, I was able to complete 22 laps while the fuel pressure was plummeting. A 144 minute race has the potential for 64-65 laps at race pace, but there will be cautions. I'll be planning on a 2-stop strategy, taking full fuel and new tires each time. The tricky part will be deciding whether or not to come in early for service when the safety car comes out.

If you get a chance, tune in on GlacierTV. They do a great job.

Sweet! Once you start getting solid 80 FPS and above on high settings you'll start to appreciate the simplicity and functionality of iRacing's graphics!

Yeah i see how smooth it is on youtube videos and i cant wait to get it on my 46" TV. I really plan to stick with this game for a long time to come and maybe some day have a 3 screen setup with a real racing rig, but thats not going to happen anytime soon. My ultimate goal is to compete in the Premier Grand Am series, though im a long way from that happening. Its going to take me a while to learn all these tracks and cars, but i know it will be worth it.

Kevin, regarding certain players being annoying, you can assign a button to mute a driver.

I've made my descision. I'm going to pass on the Mustang for now and run in the GTC until I get my C license and I'll either run in the GT Challenge or Grand Am. Quick question though, I looked in the sporting code and couldn't find how I upgrade my D class license to a C class license, is it the same as rookie? Promotions at the end of the month or an "auto promotion" if my safety rating hits 4.00?

I want to say it's a little different as it's after a season but if you hit 4.00 it's still auto upgrade.

Yup! You can fastrack any license level except Pro. As long as you've met your MPR you'll be able to fastrack it!

I guess there is always a chance!

I know where you are coming from. I've been on iracing a year now and it probably wasn't to about 6 months ago or so until I really started to get more aggressive because I had a better feel for the cars at the limits. Which do you race more road or oval? I was always a road guy but got into oval just before I got into iracing that was one of the things that lead me to iracing was oval racing. I'm trying to balance out racing both, but I seem to do more oval stuff.

You always see the one guy who thinks he is the next big thing in rookie class or even D class. I've been that guy til I figured out some things you don't do.

I pretty much am oval guy, it just is why most interest me. Road just doesn't really fit with me for some reason, and the hill on limerock always gets me because I forget how light the car gets!

Kevin, regarding certain players being annoying, you can assign a button to mute a driver.

How does this actually work? I have a key to mute driver. I never tested it because I never had to, but I always wondered how it works.

Do I have to press it when he talks, and can I unmute the the same driver later in the race.

Let's say a driver is talking all the time and my concentration is hurting from it so I mute him, but I end up racing him and it's good racing. After the race I would like to say personal to him "thank you for the good racing".. But I would like to get a answer to it also.

My guess is you hit the mute button when he's talking, and the next time he talks it'll show his named and "(Muted)" next to it. Mute button will probably unmute him.

Could have used it, these 2 kids were chatting it up during warm ups claiming how each one was gonna win. One sounded like he was 12 or younger, the other about 15. The 15 year old was lined up behind me when we started and after the first few turns he plowed straight into the back of me and claimed i was "blocking" him so he had to "take me out". But in the process he spun himself and ended up with more damage than me. His buddy was running behind the leader for several laps and eventually pitted the leader and admitted he spun the leader out saying "i went low on him and he tried to block so i got him loose and moved him out of the way". He also made several comments about taking other drivers out if they didnt "get out of his way" when passing. So 2 laps to go while hes in the lead, he starts chattering about how his heart was racing and how he was gonna win and it was gonna be so awesome. I slow down and race in the pack that he was in and "accidently" :sly: moved in front of him going into a turn, as i predicted he tried to drive right through me and took himself out in the process. Then starts screaming protest, protest and doing this gay little singing thing "you're getting suspended, you're getting suspended".
