Well, when you can no longer shift, or even make it around a corner due to the pure confusion, and pull into the pits (thank you, magic tow truck) to further attach more rubber, (and at some point maybe duct tape and glue ) it's hard to finish the race. The fact that I got fifth, though, with only two "incidents," in the same corner, says a lot.

haha such drama! an excellent finish for suffering from "mechanical damage" during the race!

Wohoo! My first win in a LONG time. Happened in my first and only Star Mazda race this season. I was running in bottom split at Watkins Glen, about 1.5 seconds/lap off the two lead cars, but 1 second faster than 4th and below. Last few laps and I hear the leader say "OH NO!" and see the relative meter time start dropping for both cars. I took first and kept it, put it on cruise control the last couple laps as I had a 15 second lead on 2nd place.

It doesn't normally work out for me, but sometimes my safe consistent pace does pay off for a top 5, and rarely, a win. :)

Oh, and on the subject, the Star Mazda at Watkins Glen seriously feels like "easy mode" as I couldn't get the car to spin if I tried, guess I wasn't going fast enough though, LOL.

Congrats!

My laps are mostly below 1:43.5 during race, PB is 1:42.7. I raced at Watkins last night as well, qualy'd 4th but I jump started it... After paying the black flag I was down to 15th but I kept a good pace and finished 6th. At least I had some good battles during the race, so it was fun.

I'll do one more race there, probably on Friday night as it usually provides a good SOF. I'm leading Division 3 so far but with an advantage of only 4 points so I'd like to widen the gap a bit more.

I didn't practice at all. I know that's a terrible thing but it's such an easy car to keep control of and such an easy track, the race was in 5 minutes, so I figured what the heck and joined. I think with some practice I could get down in the mid-high 1:44's on the baseline setup (which is what I used, just with tall gearing). Not sure if I downloaded a setup how I would do. I like nice safe (tight) sets that understeer, keeps me consistent as I'm not a super-skilled sim racer.

WTG!
👍

I had my one and likely only win in the SM racing by the same method. It was my first SM race and I started in the pits. This race was at the brutal Road Atlanta and everyone in the race crashed out except for me! Sometimes slow and safe does win a race for this here snail! LOL

Congrats on the win 👍

I was doing some practice with the SM @ Watkins last night too, and I have to say this seems like the most boring combination on the calander.
Is there any car that makes Watkins seem exciting :boggled:
I know heaps of people love Watkins it seems to be on every schedule for every car, for me it would be nice to see VIR, Sebring etc appear on more schedules rather than Watkins.
Does everyone really love Watkins that much ?

I enjoy this track, it's pretty fast and fairly easy to drive on, and it provides some good battles for position.

If you guys plan on doing more SM races at Watkins this week I can share my setup when I get home.

Edit: I specially like the configuration the SM is using this week, with the boot and no chicane.

x2!
Another Watkins Glenn lover here! Pretty much for the reasons Live mentioned, no matter what car or class you'll always find good racing on this track! Easy to learn, easy to get on pace but still a challenge to be fast.
The long fast corners always lead to some great battles!

I probably actually like it better with the chicane.
You've got some good times going on there as well, would be keen as to try your setup please 👍
And good luck with your championship battle too.

That's the funny thing for me, I've had some real good races there too (even made a youtube video of one of them). Still just find it uninspiring for some reason :boggled:

Yeah, the racing is great at Watkins Glen. The first 7 or 8 laps we were having a great battle for 3-4-5 with lots of wheel to wheel side by side action through the corners. There is plenty of room to do it at this track which makes it exciting. But yes, hotlapping there can get boring.

Does anyone know if its possible to have the full rage of my wheel used in iRacing? I much prefer that then seeing the wheel in the bottom corner doing loops before I hit 180 degrees.

Are you talking about the ingame steering wheel and not your actual steering wheel?

If you are, go to the graphics options. And switch one of the settings to wheel only. Then I think that goes more than 180 degrees. If I remember correctly.

I liked the Lotus 49 calendar a lot but I'm waiting for people's opinions on the car before buying it.

Also, I saw those pics on FB yesterday, hence the lack of comments. But it's beautiful.

Sorry, forgot to post the setup last night. Here it is.
Cheers Live, I'll give it a run when I get home from work.

LOL @ the lack of response here at the Lotus 49
Lotus looks awesome and cant wait to take that beast for a spin, and as others have said the schedule for it looks good too....
Cant wait for Oran Park too, great little track :)

I am reeeaaaly looking forwrard to it! I realy love the old F1 cars.
But I have to agree that it doesnt realy fit into iRacing that well.
But I can undertstand the iRacing team as they did make the awesome GP legends ^^

And thanks for the setup Live!

Has anyone ever experienced a problem with their G27 (where it's impossible to calibrate?)

I only have like 20% of the steering wheel's capabilities (like, as if it were on 500% sensitivity) and it's off-center. It also shakes and bounces.

Have you tried to reconnect it?
